Arrow: New CW show to replace Smallville

Ollie has mentioned a few times this season that during his 5 years he saw things that were unimaginable or that defy explanation, which I think has been one of the many was the show has been subtly preparing us for something crazy like Lazarus Pits or...I dunno, what else can resurrect people, the Phoenix Force, have I got my continuities straight?

Google reveals that Phoenix force never inhabited green arrow.

The fact that Ra's is present on the show makes me think it's gotta be a Lazarus pit.

Or, this just occurred to me, what was the "omega" thing they were trying to steal but was already taken? Is that what will be used to heal him?

I do think the show runners have said that they've changed their mind on having "powers" play much of a role on Arrow.

I liked how they cut out the music during the trial. At least until I remembered The Dark Knight Rises doing it, too. Here's hoping he doesn't wake up in prison with a super clear TV showing them tearing Starling City apart.

I think I read somewhere that the first episode next year doesn't even have Oliver in it.

My guess: league of assasins starts slaughtering the city, pockets of resistance via Thea/Merlin, the remaining arrow gang, maybe atom? Crying people, "where's Oliver? Is he dead?" More crying. "We can't win, what will we do? If only Oliver was here."

Maybe a defection by the LOA Asian guy that had been helping Oliver, possibly when his wife shows up with Oliver's return.

Oliver comes to the rescue an episode or two later, followed by flashbacks of how he survived.

Hmmmmm....

Or,

Spoiler:

They use the Lazarus Pit and he wakes up, but with amnesia. He keeps his impressive fighting skills and they press him into service with the LoA. He regains his memory while fighting Diggle or Red Arrow and doesn't kill him. Having broke his bond with the LoA, they start interfering with his life in Starling City, leading to another confrontation with Ra's in the season finale.

I like both those theories. So when does this come back on anyway?

Mid January

I do not like Grenn's theory though largely because I hate amnesia plotlines. It would very much fit with the typical comic book style of story, though.

JC, I heard similar, but wasn't going to say it because it's a slight bit spoilerish.

Spoiler:

What I heard was the actor had said somewhere that he had 9 days off from filming at some point. So that could be an episode or more that he's not around for.

Once they had Flash on they kinda opened the door to powers....

What I think they'd said was that powers were going to be primarily on Flash, and more "normal" villains on Arrow. Kind of like the difference in tone and lighting between the shows.

That was fantastic! Even after he got run through, I expected Oliver to somehow deal a death blow against Ra's I am so glad they didn't go there. Super excited to see how this plays out.

My guess is also the Lazarous pit.

I'd agree that it's probably the one dude's Wife, Tatsu, that saves Oliver.

Spoiler:

She does, afterall, become Katana in the comics. She's not a character they shoved in just for the show.

But that might be me just being all hopeful because Rila Fukushima is awesome.

I'm still pulling for the utterly improbable return of Shado...but yeah, it's probably going to be Tatsu.

So, the episode before the most recent. Full of so much important stuff in a single episode. I was honestly rather surprised. I'm really loving the main story this season.

But the flashbacks.

Okay, I've learned to just live with the fact that Oliver was in Hong Kong for a while. Fine. Whatever.

But going back to Starling, seeing his sister as a drug using party girl, seeing Felicity, seeing his city and home again, it f*cking blows. It is actually inconsistent with some of his behavior in the start of season one, it's overall silly, none of it makes sense ("we need your fingerprint to login!" "Wait, won't they see I logged in?" "Don't worry we'll hack out that record." "So why don't you just hack in yourselves?!"), and it's all done so Oliver can see his Dad's message and gain the conviction to put what is right before himself and family.

But it just feels so dumb. So absolutely dumb.

What could have been a wonderful episode filled with Deathstroke was instead the worst episode of Arrow ever.

I'd agree with all of that. The recent flashback bits are easily the worst piece of garbage side story they've foisted on the show since its beginning. It's terrible and now every time they cut from current time to a flashback I want to throw something at my TV.

Tatsu is the only interesting/fun character/thing/whatever to come from the entirety of this season's flashbacks and that doesn't nearly make up for the rest of it.

Ugh. The constant Flashbacks should have ended after season 2. They've regressed from being necessary to just being badly written filler.

I'm kind of worried that we'll reach season six and they'll start flashing back to season one and making sh*t up.

Everyone remain calm, but we appear to be at maximum batman.

Flashbacks are worth it for the ugly hair they give Ollie.

I'm not sure I can do that. AAAAAAAAAAAH!

LOL. Seriously funny.

As is how they can't seem to decide how to pronounce Ra's al Ghul; sometimes it's the Animated Series' way and sometimes the Nolan films'.

Why is Ray Palmer turning into Iron Man?

Probably because they wanted him to be Blue Beetle, but some sort of rights thing happened. So the AV Club commentariat tells me.

Really did not see that coming.

Seems like they settled on everyone in the League pronouncing it "Raysh", while everyone else calls him "Raz".

Not sure if you are aware or not, but he becomes the DC character Atom, and I guess that's the suit they are going with. Not surprised they are going with a very Iron Man like approach to his suit considering how popular Iron Man is these days. LOL

He was originally going to be be Blue Beetle but DC wouldn't allow it for some reason.

Yeah, I know who he's supposed to be. I'm just annoyed that instead of being a shrinky guy so far he's just got flying power armour.
DC has the perfect chance to pre-empt Ant Man with a shrinking hero of their own, and so far they're just doing a re-skinned Iron Man instead.

I wonder why they switched away from Blue Beetle? There were a bunch of references to Ted Kord earlier in the series

Maybe their plan is to go with Jaime Reyes instead?

Speaking of, everyone saw they're doing a Justice League or Super Friends show, right? Future spoilers for Arrow are right there in the cast so don't click if you care.
