GWJFL3: Week 12

The Certis, when are we playing tonight?

7PM CST or earlier if you want baby.

I''ll be on a bit earlier. You realize of course, that if I beat you, you will never be able to live it down.

I''ll be on a bit earlier. You realize of course, that if I beat you, you will never be able to live it down.

It''s the casual league, I might control the game with my feet, just for kicks.

Maybe there is some wino on the street in fromt of your place you can have come in and play for you.

Maybe there is some wino on the street in front of your place you can have come in and play for you.

That hasn''t been working very well for you so far Swampy, I''ll stick with my feet.

Fletch lets try again.

Well, the Certis beat me 13-7, which sounds like a close game, but I can tell you it was never really that close. Offensively I could not convert 3rd downs against that incredible New England Defense. I was sacked about a half dozen times, so much so that despite the fact that he plays a clean game the Certis told me he ""felt dirty"".
Dante Hall had a long run after catch, which set up my TD, one of the few plays I was happy with. Holmes got shut down.
I''m hoping for better things in 2 weeks when he and I have a rematch without EQ.

Well despite network issues, a living room full of boxes (one of which was eagerly awaiting the Xbox), a bored SO and a rambunctious youngster SpyNavy and I got our game played several days before deadline.

<rejoice>

I lost of course, but it was a good game. The Texans Offensive line, true to form, started crapping out towards the end of the second quarter, and their offensive strategy seems to have been geared towards taking the ball just far enough past midfield to make it look like they were trying, but no actual points were scored.

Tampa''s D made some good plays and their offense managed to place the ball in the end zone a couple of times, which even the idiotic color commentator can tell you is The Trick to Winning Football Games.

Thank you Spy, thank you ESPN, thank you GWJ and most of all, Mom, Dad, I love you. I''ll be unplugged most of this weekend, so I''ll see you all next week.

Gotta turn off that commentary Fletch. It''ll drive a sane man nuts within 2 or 3 games!

Hey Thin_J how about sunday around 7 pm like you said that would be good for me

If we do another league when this one ends, I''m avoiding the colts like they''re all infected with the goddamn cholera virus.

Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison both held to almost no yards at all. I think I made like five complete passes the whole game. James was kept behind the line of scrimmage almost every time I gave him the ball, regardless of play choice. I used formations I didn''t even know existed before in an attempt to counter whatever the hell was going on on the other side of the ball, and it made no difference. NONE.

I''m really starting to dislike the colts. Everything they do right when I play singleplayer, they do completely wrong when I play multiplayer. I''m not sure if maybe I""m playing with a different setting or two than we are in the league, but goddamn is it frustrating to watch my receivers drop passes left and right. In some cases they were WIDE open. Not all the time, or even most of the time, but more than once in a game Wayne, Harrison, and James all dropped passes they should have caught.

Good Game Thin_J

Had a great first game with Pigpen; great spirit. The first half was a defensive struggle. I managed one drive to score on the first play of the second quarter, but that was all of the scoring that half. This was in large part a result of Pigpen''s great defense. On my first pass as owner of the Vikes, he put his LB right where I threw the ball. One pass, one interception. In the first half, he had two MORE interceptions, and he forced Mewelde Moore to fumble 5 yards out from the endzone. Very tough defensive half.

In the second half, I had a bit more success offensively. Poor Pigpen, who lost Michael Vick in an earlier game, had his star receiver go down to injury in our game.

Thanks for a great game, Pigpen, and thanks to all for letting me join the league.

Well, one of us played a good game but it certainly wasn''t me

Nice recap, firesloth. Welcome to the league.

Logan kinda did himself in in our game. Although to be fair, I told him that I was taking out my (explitive deleted) GWJHL frustrations on him (my team conspired to help Psycho win!)

Logan came out rolling. Though he couldn''t get the running game going, he hit every pass he needed to. And he came out no-holds-barred: with 1:20 left in the 2nd, and a 14-7 ballgame, he went for 4th-and-3 on my 21 yard line, instead of kicking the field goal that would''ve made it 14-10. Not only did he get it, but then he ended up at 4th-and-12 on my 17 and went for THAT too instead of kicking (that time, my defense held).

So now I''ve got the ball back with 45 seconds, on my 23 yard line, and he''s blitzing everyone he can find. His 11 players, the defensive coordinator, the waterboy - hell, even Coughlin himself went head-to-head against his ex-players. Well I audibled to a little fade to my tight end (who was split out wide in the traditional Z receiver spot) and he took it the 73 yards to paydirt.

He just got too aggressive. Not that he was going to win, but he only lost BIG because of it. Otherwise, it could''ve been a close game.

In my defense:

I can''t play against Legion.

Hey, why don''t you try playing against your older brother and see how well you handle pressure?

You wanna talk about pressure? You''re supposed to lose. If I lose the game, it''s like being Tyson and getting that last shot to the chin from Buster Douglas.

No, it''s like being Venus Williams. What a sh*tty way to go THAT is. ""Hey Venus, you were the most hyped thing since the composite racquet, but it''s your little sister Serena that''s doing all the ass-kicking.""

No, it''s like being Haylie Duff. ""Vote for Summer! .... Someone else please hire me for something? Oooh, I get to do two episodes of Joan of Arcadia!""

No, it''s like being Billy Baldwin. ""Why couldn''t *I* do Bio-Dome?""

Psycho, when can you play?

Well, that said, we did go into halftime 7-0. But, with Vick out, I then proceeded to lose not just Peerless Price, BUT also Dez White, and one or two defensive players to boot. I just couldn''t sustain it...so, unfortunately, I''m going to help you guys out, I have one receiver left, and one RB...if you cover them both, you too can hold me under 100 yards offensively...my team is toast, I''m still playing - not in me to quit, but with Vick, Price and White down, so are the Falcons...its just plain sad.

No use trading for a QB if you have nothing to throw to...you know

Also, Firesloth is not a newbie...so don''t go into the game expecting that. Once he learns to balance the pass more with the run (he was VERY effective running - runners powered up coming out of the backfield it seemed) then he will be up there...he countered about everything I did on offense with the right defense - I was effective running early, but with no passing game, once he realized it was Dunn or Crumpler, well, I couldn''t manage a first down to save my life (that said, I did miss a FG from 45 yards - just short - that would have gotten me 3 points...sigh). And holding Crumpler to one or two catches is a task that is next to parting the Red Sea...so well done...

Good luck all - and if anyone forfeits from the league, can I have their QB and WR''s please

I''m pretty sure I''ve never beaten my brother in video football for the same reason. Actually, it''s the same story with tennis in real life. I can be up a set and a few games and I will always, always blow it.

Highlander and I are gonna play at or around 7pm PST I believe so I can go either an hour before or after that if you''re available. Let me know and we''ll work it out.

Let''s go for after, I''ll look for you around then.

Sounds good, bagga.

Mumbles and i are still trying to hook up.....you know for a football game.

Whatever you''re into Neo. We don''t judge. Much.

Whatever you''re into Neo. We don''t judge. Much.

I figure the only way to get you back is make better use of TG. Next game TG goes for 16 catches 360 yards and 2 Td''s! That will show you!

I wonder if this is enough proof for the masses. Let me jump on the bandwagon and proclaim my hatred for the catches-less Colts. I can''t believe how many drops the best WR core in the league gets...not that ESPN credits them of course.

I have actually found a play that MHarrison is guaranteed to drop 8 of 10 times no matter how open he is. Ran it in practice over and over...so its not a stamina issue...just a go route.

Wanna try again Bagga?

We can if you like. Though we need to get the game reset by the commish if it''s gonna be league sanctioned. I don''t know what to do anymore, I haven''t played a successful game in like a month.
