Xenoblade Chronicles: X catch all

Pages

I have put a few videos in the Nintendo E3 thread, and in the Wii U thread but I thought a catch all might be good. The game isn't due out until 2015 but I expect when it does hit we will want a thread, and until then we can post anything interesting we find out.

And videos!

I may have posted this question before but I can't find it with the search function.

In one of the videos I watched I was again struck by something I just don't understand - why are some words in English even in a game which isn't localized?

Do they not have a word for "Class", "Level" or "Change"? It just seems weird.

Fairly common to see that, really.

It shows how much the Japanese owe to North America in re video games.

Also, Japanese schoolchildren all learn English, and English is considered cool.

Have you listened to their pop music, Farley? Random English words everywhere. The South Park episode where they imagined they were all anime wasn't too far off.

I think for sci-fi style games, though, it's also an aesthetic decision. Military equipment, or equipment of any sort, may have text in English in order to be more international. So having a futuristic interface that's supposed to resemble something the characters might actually be using could have random English to fit the setting better.

That's just a guess, though. And now that I think about it, I kind of wish we saw more locations in video games that would also have text in Spanish or French-Canadian, though I imagine (for the Spanish at least) that could spark a big fat debate that no one is interested in.

Gosh, I love Babymetal. Anyway, interested to follow this, even though we don't know much yet.

It looks really cool and I'm excited for it. Wondering if I should track down a version of the Wii game. My backlog is already so full as it is.

"Gimme chocolate!!" went viral because it's so odd, but Babymetal has some great tunes if you are open to the idea of pop metal. "Megitsune" is a really solid track with a neat video. Not everybody's cup of tea by a long shot, but I un-ironically like them.

My wife heard me laughing and had to come and see what it was. I have no idea what they're singing, but damn if it wasn't catchy and if I didn't watch it twice.

My favorite will always be Headbanger, partially because it lives up to its name as a fantastic, energetic, pumped up song for thrashing, kicking, and headbanging.

It's also the least JPop of all their songs, so while the video is mildly quirky, it doesn't hit the same absurd note that most of their other songs do, which are basically typical JPop with heavy metal going on in the background.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is entering the final phases of development. Looking for 1st half of 2015 release in Japan and 2nd half of 2015 elsewhere.

When will then be now?

Good. I have a ton of games to play until then.

Main Theme (assumed) ripped from the official website.

So, is this going to be an 'updated' version of Xenoblade Chronicles from the Wii, or is this an entirely new game, I'm finding it hard to get anything rock solid on this (but it is late locally, and my google-fu is failing me).

I'm not sure how much I can read into the term spiritual successor

I only ask, because my kids were mesmerised by the WiiU demo loop playing in my local EB, and I might be convinced to get one as a Christmas treat. At present, the WiiU seems to be the better purchase than a XB1 or PS4 in terms of games I actually want to play (both for myself, and with them).

It's a new game, but it's not a direct sequel to the previous one story-wise.

Kind of the way "Final Fantasy", "Tales of..." operate or is it a new storyline in the universe of the Wii game?

Sounds pretty awesome either way.

Also, I am still incredibly grateful for your gifting of the Original Wii version of the game to me. I play it whenever the kids will let up on Super Mario Galaxy

More along the "Tales" series. X is basically going to have very similar mechanics as the Wii game. The setting is wholly different, as is the story.

Not a ton of detail as of yet, but as Japan's release approaches (Spring) and definitely as the worldwide release approaches (next fall) there will be more about the specifics. The 40 minute demo in the OP is perhaps the most enlightening, even if it's PR.

Exploration Trailer:

No firm release date = chance of actually finishing Chronicles in time for release of X!

yeah, same here. The trailer looks cool though. And they're apparently from the United States now? Saw the US flag on the side of the ship a couple times. That's kind of interesting.

Yea!! Hoping to get an hour in today.

Every little bit helps.

On topic, I was blown away by the sights today. Can't wait to explore that world.

Giant monsters + robots = Clocky crack. I'm so there.

If anything, the creators might be going back and tying things in with the Xenogears/Xenosaga universe. Not that Xenoblade didn't share thematic similarities with their earlier games as well, it's impossible to watch the trailers for this new game and get a SERIOUS Xenogears vibe all over the place, and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they worked in a few more direct references to their previous works this time.

And while it has recently changed, the logo for the game when it was originally announced:

IMAGE(http://static1.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1301/13013957/2660330-1632383453-Xenob.jpg)

featured a red painted X that seemed very specifically designed to grab the attention of Xenogears fans.

Well, it definitely worked. Even though I never finished the Xenoblade (even after 100+ hours of play!), this remains the game that will almost certainly get me to buy an Wii U.

Did anybody else find the 'United States' flags and name emblazoned on the starships odd?

There's also a Neo Los Angeles too I think.

I wonder if they'll go with British voice acting again? or maybe some California valley girl accent? Wouldn't that be a treat. Or just Japanese audio with subtitles like the trailer, I'd prefer that.

It probably depends on who's handling the localization. The reason the original is full of British VA is because the NA version is the same version the EU/PAL regions received which was originally handled by Nintendo of Europe. All they did for the NA release was switch the video output from PAL to NTSC.
