The Flash - TV show (No Spoilers Beyond What's Aired

Pages

As per usual people. If it's aired it's fair game but that does NOT include previews for next week. Spoiler tag anything that was not part of an episode that has aired already and warn people what they may find. That includes previews, episode names, casting decisions, interviews, basically everything that isn't part of an episode which already aired.

Thanks and have fun!

Two episodes in and I am really enjoying the show so far. I am happy that it isn't another dark and brooding show. They certainly aren't afraid to dip into the humor, but also have no problem being serious either.

I loved the Grod tease in the first episode. I think the CGI they use for the running still needs some work. It still looks a bit goofy, but it's a pretty minor annoyance considering how much I like about the show.

Hopefully they can keep this up!

I could definitely tell it was pretty much the same writing team in episode two as Arrow, but as you said, much more light-hearted overall (which is odd to say considering how the episode ends). I've actually been rewatching Arrow season two, following a rewatching of the latter half of season one, and these guys definitely plan this stuff out for the long haul. So I'm really eager not only to see what they have in store for later on down the line, but crossovers between the two shows.

I don't know the name of the male scientist kid yet, but I definitely liked his writing better the second episode.

Overall, just very stoked for this season.

I have a fondness for moments when they have to turn into a skid of comic silliness (one of my favorite Arrow exchanges: "Mr. Wilson?" "No, please, call me Slade." Yes, call me Slade, it's much more casual!), so I was a big fan of "We all got struck by that lightning."

I'm liking it so far. I'm looking forward to the minor characters getting some air time, because right now they're just cliches. But it's a fun show and I hope it keeps that sense of humor.

They really can't let us forget that someone's a Bad Guy, can they? At least they're getting their mileage out of the fastest man alive always being late.

Hey, look at us discussing that other show here. The writers of Arrow had some long term details planned out before the series started, among them which thought-dead character would reappear in the second season and where Oliver's flashbacks take place in the third season--assuming they got this far. I would expect no less from The Flash as it grows its TV-specific universe.

Didn't enjoy Arrow so much, really enjoying The Flash though. Well the first episode and the 20 minutes of the second episode I watched since I couldn't put the new Borderlands game down in time for the beginning...So since I'm not as familiar with DC comics, what was the Grod teaser I missed in episode 1?

I am really liking this show so far. I do think however that they are giving away too much info on Dr Wells. I think it would have been better if they just would have teased bits and pieces. In the first one, show him going into the hidden room and standing up. In the second episode, just show the CEO getting killed (by someone mysterious) and al you hear are the words "The Flash must be kept safe"

They were walking through the wreckage of the building where the explosion happened with the collidor and there was a cage bent all out of shape with a sign that said Grod on it.

I am not that familiar with comics either, but that was a big one, and not really hidden either.

The Caitlin character is VERY annoying.

Maybe she'll tone it down in the future.

Maybe I missed that part then....

I'm really enjoying the Tom Cavanagh is a d-bag minute at the end of every episode.

I hope it continues and just keeps ramping up because that's going to be hilarious in a few weeks.

Awww I don't know about Tom Cavanagh being a d-bag. You can't tell me that you didn't want to be the one sticking it to that old rich guy. IMO it was richly deserved.

He seemed almost reluctant to do it.

Your first sentence isn't negated by the second.

That's a little creepy.

I DON'T GET IT.

Spoiler:

Speaking of, is her "dead" boyfriend Ronnie a Firestorm reference?

So Flash is going with the "everyone's a Cylon" approach to storytelling?

That scene, the very good dialog, the scene with Arrow, and Tom Cavanaugh knifing a fool have sold me. I have high hopes for this one.

I'm honestly pretty surprised they decided to lead with a Professor Zoom plotline. Considering the show spun off from the mostly-sort-of-realistic-ish Arrow it's a pretty big leap to go straight to "insane evil time-travelling speedster from the future". I thought they'd start off with the Rogues or something and work their way up.

My biggest concern so far is that the show feels a lot like a reskinned Smallville. Freak disaster gives a bunch of people powers, only one man can stop them. Hero confides in his nerdy friends and adopted parent(s), but lies to the childhood friend he secretly loves in order to protect her*. Close friend/mentor is secretly plotting against him. Hell, even his hero nickname is basically the same: "The Streak" vs. "The Blur". Also, "The Streak"? Really? Why not just have the public nickname him "The Flash" instead**.

*Also I am sooo sick of every superhero romantic subplot where the hero has to either lie to or distance himself from his true love in order to protect her. Just once I'd like to see the hero come clean right away and let the other person decide if they're willing to risk it.

**I was going to make a joke about how "The Streak" makes it sound like he's running around naked, but then I realized that "The Flash" isn't really any better in that regard.

In regards to the name, it's probably similar to how Arrow kept referring to Oliver as the Hood in the first season, then switched to The Arrow later on. I have a feeling Barry will be The Flash towards the end of the season.

This is worlds better than Smallville. I don't roll my eyes for an hour when this show is on. And Buffy was doing the Hellmouth long before Smallville did the meteor rocks and that show was the sh*t. It helps that he is able to defeat villains and be back before Iris can complain so we don't have a "Where do you go?" confrontation every other episode. Also that Dadcop knew about his daughter's boyfriend.

I also like him venting to Iris in superspeed mode as a way to get things off his chest. Very Prince of Persia.

It's still definitely better than Smallville.

Flash, a-ah, savior of the universe

Another way The Flash is better than Smallville,

Spoiler:

he lost to a Rogues Gallery villain his first time out. Clark would have that guy in prison by the end of the episode and he wouldn't show up again until 4 seasons later when he would escape and ultimately kill himself when his cold gun malfunctions. I love that he lost.

Great episode.

I greatly enjoyed the episode and they managed to make Barry and Felicity "totes adorbz", but they still just want to piss me off with this whole "CRUSHIN' ON IRIS" crap.

Yes, because the least interesting character on the show is a great object of affection.

...okay, technically the only person more boring than Iris is her boyfriend. I'll give 'em that.

You know, I've been kind of meh on this show for the first five episodes, but that's all going to change if they actually pull off a Gorilla Grodd episode like they just threatened to do.

ffffffff-

good ending.

Well I'd have to say that was my favourite episode of the season.

Really good.

Wasn't the best episode for me but the end saved it. Also Joe and Wells has some good chemistry. Really the only part I didn't like was the bad guy and his stupid reason for going bad.

ding, ding, ding!

Although I am also really getting annoyed at the whole trying to convince her to stop writing the blog thing. You want her to stop writing? Don't show up when she posts a note to meet up, and don't show up to save her ass. Just don't show up.

I mean I know why he does always show up, but it's annoying beyond belief.
