So, Baseball is coming out in March.
I assume we'll get enough guys wanting to play that we can do a league.
Topic for discussion: Accurate rosters giving the big-market teams an obvious edge, or (if the game allows it) auto-fantasy draft aimed at spreading the talent around the league so players can take any team they want and be challenging?
If possible, we should all get MLB 2k5 for PC, and then we can do PBEM one pitch at a time.
Hopefully the Second Foundation will have retained our collective knowledge of baseball so we can keep playing through the Galactic Dark Ages.
I havent played baseball on a console since I was a kid. I am definitely in - I will bring my steroid laced team to the big show. I like the Marlins, the Nationals or the Orioles. Maybe I better buy it and play single player first - I had bad experiences with hockey :).
I might be interested, let''s wait and make sure the game isn''t a steaming pile first
I prefer my piles cold anyhow.
EB Games lists this at $19.99. I think I''ll stop by there the day it comes out and grab a copy.
I simply, and forthrightfully claim the Atlanta Braves
I like your proposal Swampy. Do we know how it will work yet? It''d be cool if we could do a live draft, but I bet the game doesn''t allow that.
I didn''t get as much feedback on my auto-draft proposal put forth earlier in the thread. What do you think? I think it would make the league more fun.
I''m definitely down for that, or is it up? I always forget wich way it is.
I''m with Certis though, I''d like to see if the game is any fun first.
I want my team intact...Go Braves...and choke in the playoffs...
<tears from eyes flowing freely now>
so I vote no to draft - and if you have Barry Bonds, note that I will mock you...yes I will!
My thinking is that it evens the playing field, and will make playing one''s favorite team more viable even if they are small market.
When your favorite team happens to be one of the best you''re usually not hot on that sort of thing but I really agree with you on that one Swamp. It hurts the Hockey league to some extent. It''s still a lot of fun but playing your beloved team is sometimes like playing CS exclusively with a knife with everyone around firing AK''s.
You know what would be even better...and not sure if this is doable, but I''m betting it is, and maybe more of a headache - but worth it to me...
put a cap in...say at $90M - you have to manage the cap with your selected team, so if you pick the marlins, you can buy about $50M in players, while the yankees, great, but you have to cut about 100M$ in players to get down to the cap. Then, other teams can buyout those players, etc...so you have a wide open free agent market, and the lesser teams will be able to pick up some good talent from teams over the cap. Additionally, we could make unclaimed teams free agent farms...
what is the advantage of this - well, you get your core team that you''ll be following all season, but can plus it up in most cases to make it very competitive...
Thoughts?
So what''s the story? espnvideogames.com lists MLB 2k5 out, and costing $39.99, but sold out. Anyone know if it''s actually available?
Hmmm. EB''s site says its available and $19.99. I am placing a call ....
Wow. My local EB has it. I know where I am going after work.
Oohhh its out I may need to head out this evening if the Missus is feeling any better.
I''ll volunteer. Last year the best settings IMO were Legend, default sliders, no DH, zone hitting (or whatever they call it), confidence on, pitch cursor off. The new pitching system might change things tho'' Oh man, I cant wait to get home!
What does being commissioner entail?
Being ridiculed by the rest of the players in the league.
