Legend of Grimrock II

Spoiler:

The rat king fight is the one that I had to put off for a while because I just couldn't make headway. That said I am definitely underutilizing the forcefield spell mostly because I never took the time to figure it out. :)

Here's what my party looked like after I finished the final battle:

Spoiler:

The Island Master's last bit of health was knocked down by one his clones who had thrown a fireball at me!

I failed to save after getting though the spike traps, so i stoped playing for a few days. Went back, got one scare, persevered. Got another scare, cried, quit.

i'll try and be brave again tonight!

I keep meaning to post about this and forgetting, but Glycerine's post popped the post up on my Favorites list and it made me rememberr. Huzzah! Thanks (and welcome) Glycerine.

So I found this:

Spoiler:

I found this area in the Forgotten River and spent 15-20 minutes digging around like an idiot right on the spot and all around the spot that appears to be indicated by this map and haven't found anything. Has anyone else found this one yet?

The chest is definitely there

Spoiler:

the map is indicating the spot right in front of the cave where you first encounter the rats. "The Cache" I think it's called

Spoiler:

That's over in front of The Cache? That's crazy - it totally looks like a completely different area. I'll have to revisit this when i get home.

Yeah, just because you find something in one area doesn't mean that the solution is in the same area.

For that particular map the key is the bottom of the picture

Spoiler:

the hatch marks are the stairs and the rock next to it is the dungeon sign

Spoiler:

Interesting... ok. I was basing the location completely around the position of a bridge across the water in the south of that area. That bridge and the way the shoreline progresses matches that map exactly, hence my confusion.

Spoiler:

The bridge in the map is no longer there.

That's why it took me so long to find it.

Bought it, looking forward to playing it, not sure when I'll get around to it though.

No problem, glad I could be of some help. Thank you for the welcome, been around for about 5 years but I hardly ever post so I still feel "new". I'm trying to change that and become more active in the community. Lots of friendly people here.

So...is there anyone out there who actually prefers the first game to this one? If so, why?

Don't believe the rumours.

Not so far. The sequel has superseded the first in every way imo.

One thing that kept occurring to me is that the big wide open world means it's a lot easier to leave some puzzle or lock or door somewhere unresolved. I mean, the auto-mapping is pretty good about this, but not perfect. This game had a lot more leave-for-now-come-back-later spots, a lot more retravelling the same areas than I remember in the first one.

I won't say I liked the first better, but I honestly enjoyed its final boss fight more.

Knowing that my least favorite part of the Grimrock games is the crazy fights with a bazillion guys floating about I'm actually sort of dreading this.

frogs stole my weapons and didnt drop them back :/ so i used console commands to spawn them back. because im horrible like that

Really? Never had that happen to me.

I finished my app to extract assets from the Grimrock2.dat file. This will help in my modding efforts, since the official asset pack is not out (and there are things in the dat file that won't be released). Only downside is that the script files are luaJIT byte codes and I haven't found a decompiler for those yet.

So have watched 25 hours plus on this YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3R.... I really like the guy's style and his comments. And I can safely say I don't need to play the game. It did buy it because I love the type of game, and I think they have a great game but at about hour 15 or so I really stopped caring.

Luckily I can watch it on one screen at work while "working" on the other monitor so I feel like I have gotten to play it.

Still it feels like a classic example of more isn't always better.

This is on my short list for the winter sale, I think.

Yeah, I was hoping it would go a little lower during the big Steam sale last week, as it was #1 on my Wishlist.

I think I'm gonna treat myself during the Winter sale even if it doesn't drop any lower.

Plus if you get it, you'll be able to play my custom dungeon when it's ready.

Well thanks a lot Aaron, now Gabe won't lower the price!

+1 on that. Really enjoy his vid's.

Anyone want a key to Legend of Grimrock 2? PM me.

There is a whole keep gifting/swapping thread you might want to try
https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

I usually try the main thread first and get a "real" fan a copy. You know, the fan who still hasn't bought the game after two years.

The truly hardcore
