Dreamfall Sequel Officially Coming!

You spend a very small portion of the game fighting (very, very small) and although it's bad, it's easy. So don't let that stop you.

Also I found the game plays better with a controller, but maybe that just me. Nice deja vu for me as this was the first game I had on steam.

They're over halfway with less than 2 days gone.

Backed for $50. Like so many people here, The Longest Journey is my favorite adventure game, and absolutely in my top 5 games of all time. I have played (but never finished - now is as good a time as any to get on that) the sequel. It's not that it was bad - far from it, in fact - but I guess I got distracted by something shiny. November 2014 feels like a long time to wait, but if the writing is anything like the first two, it will be well worth it.

They're now over 75% funding and 10k backers.

Who says adventure games are dead?

People trying to rile up adventure game fans to fund their adventure game kickstarter?

Holy bleep, only just saw this. Definitely in, now just to negotiate with myself over how much I'm in for!

In general, Dreamfall is not a good video game. Damn fine story though.

I'd say it depends, it's an adventure game, and being the sequel to the game with the rubber duck puzzle doesn't win it any favors.

That looks like a perfectly logical sequence of puzzles to me.
(Tornquist linked to this image from his twitter a few days back. I'm not sure where it originates.)

The real goal is $2m!

Adjusted for accuracy.

(oh, and yes, I definitely backed this, even though I remain pissed about Dreamfall.)

Hurray! What is it though, The Longest Journey Home?

An explorable version of Marcuria in Playstation Home?

No idea really. It should be a "HD version" of TLJ imo, but Tørnquist pretty much said they wouldn't revisit their old games.

What is more important about the stetch goals for me is, that they should just have enough money to not make half a story "again" - although I don't think it was that bad with Dreamfall.

Actually TLJ Home has been announced and it's a true classic 2-d style sequel to the original Longest Journey! finally the continuation to April's story. So if you're more interested in TLJ than Dream fall you might like this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

Hopefully if they don't get the 2m from this kickstarter, they feel like trying again for it when chapters is finished.

I think that's the plan, and they said the paypal will continue long after the Kickstarter to reach their goals.

And it's done.
$1.5m stretch goal reached near the end.

Nothing to worry about regarding TLJH I guess. They will probably make a new kickstarter for it late next year, and surely they will sell some release copies of Dreamfall Chapters to help fund the next game too.

It's a shame that they didn't reach 2 million, but like Shadout says, I'm hoping that TLJH will see the light of day eventually.
I pledged 50$, I really wanted the soundtrack...

Same here, $50 dollars just vanished from my account today. Hurrah!

I upped my pledge to $50 with a few hours remaining, and glad I did.

I pledged $75. I didn't realize I could quantify how much of a sucker I am for this story until this was kickstartered.

Arise thread!
I realize a lot of you are backers and are getting the update, but I just read the latest one and it's great to see they're making progress. They say they're in pre-alpha stated definied as:

Our definition of pre-alpha means that almost three quarters of the game is in a playable state, with most of the core features in place, along with final, in-progress or white-boxed versions of all the scenes.

And at the end, they give new art for Zoë's room at the end of Dreamfall and imply there's a hint on Zoë's middle name in the picture. Any guesses?

Spoiler:

It's "Maya".

So they put up a 30 minute commentated gameplay walkthrough:

My initial thoughts are two fold. Firstly, I know this is pre-alpha footage (and a Unity game for that matter) but these animations are crazy rough. Texture quality isn't stellar either but this isn't a AAA game. I really hope they can improve the animations though, things look way too robotic right now.

Secondly, I really don't like that concept of showing what the Internet decided for the moral choices before you actually make the choice. I loved how The Walking Dead did it, showing you how many people chose what in each episode at its conclusion. But literally showing you percentages and naming what friends chose what before you make the choice completely dilutes the experience of it. I won't care if you can turn that off but they didn't mention if you would be able to. I really hope so.

All that said, I still can't wait for this to come out.

Catherine did that a full year before TWD came out.

Not sayin'. Just sayin'.

Book One is OUT as of last night and it's BRILLIANT (in my personal opinion).

Couple of hours into it so far and I'm REALLY liking it. The writing in particular is very, very good Almost on a Joss Whedon level at times.

Also 'sh*tbot' is the BEST. THE. BEST.

Couple of caveats though: It's really chuggy in terms of framerate in the first big open area of Stark you get to roam around in (though to be fair, I did ramp everything up to max) and also the language is...colourful. To say the least. And I'm talking the ocassional use of the C word (not directed at a woman) and Ret**d (directed at a muscle-bound but mute cyborg). There's a character in this who is basically the female equivalent of The Flipper from TLG, which should give you some idea of the level of swearyness if you've played that game

* Hmm I tried lowering the graphics a bit and it's still slideshow-central for the outdoor Stark areas, so I'm not convinced it's just my PC's problem. Which is annoying.

It is slow on my computer as well.

I haven't noticed too much performance issues yet, but I just got to Stark so we'll see how it goes.

I was a little iffy on things until after the first couple chapters. You have to figure out on your own how Zoe's abilities work, so I was stuck for a frustrating amount of time on one of the first puzzles. I'm also not yet sold on the other playable character yet. However, I got to Stark and engaging in a few optional conversations started to make me feel better about the tone and writing of the game. It's early in the game, but man it feels great to be back in this universe.

Spoiler:

April Ryan can't be dead dead, right? Right?? I really hope we find out more about her in this episode. I like Zoe and her arc, but April's journey is the one I've been most invested in over the years.
