Playing an old Professor Layton game on 3DS

I recently talked my wife into getting her own 3DS and interested her in the Professor Layton series. I was wondering if anyone had any experience playing the old DS games on the 3DS and which old Professor Layton games (if any) are a good starting point or fun to play with using the 3DS? We bought Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask. Any other 3DS games you think would be a good fit?

For reference, I tried to get her hyped for Animal Crossing. She didn't bite. After watching me play Pokemon Y while sitting on the couch, she was intrigued to get X and try it out.

Thanks so much for humoring us all!

I've been playing Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box with no problem. I am really enjoying it. I think it's the second in the series but I don't think I'm missing out on anything by not doing the games in order. It was a good $10 spent at Game Stop.

I always have 3d turned down so to me it makes no difference whether I play DS or 3DS games.

Appreciate the advise concentric. Wasn't sure if the aspect ratio or anything was a little wonky with DS games on the 3DS. Also, we have XL's. But I'm sure it's prob just stretched. Trying to find a used copy of the first game. Found PL and The Curios Village for $60 new on Amazon. Will try Gamestop (ugh) tomorrow maybe. Thanks again!

Hey no problem. I also have an XL and haven't noticed anything wonky. I got PL and the Unwound Future for $15 new from Amazon.

Hello guys..

I am "new" to the PL series and I would like to get one of the DS cheaper games first.

I will see what is good and new on amazon

im shooting for PL and the diabolical box or the last septer..

Which do you recommend?

Last Specter is the first installment in the prequel trilogy and is the last game before they moved the series to 3DS.

I would probably start there since Diabolical Box is the second game in the original trilogy (Curious Village is the first one) which, if I remember correctly, presumes you have a passing knowledge of the characters and events from the first game. Also, by starting with Last Specter you can pick up the next two games via the eShop if you like it.

Last Specter it is.. thank you very much

Looking in amazon now!
