Fallout: New Vegas - Fall 2010

Ok thanks for the advice! I've got NVSE, I'll check to see if I have CASM - otherwise I'll get it. It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to scrap my current game. Mods and I just do not get along - similar thing happened with Skyrim after about 60 hours in.

I took a look at the post notes for CASM and it appears there are some serious issues when using this mod. I think the save problem may be avoided as long as you manually save your game and never use the Continue icon when starting up (always load a manual save). I also had loaded more mods than I originally thought. I suspect that Open Freeside was the culprit.

Starting again with much less modding going on. Guess that is a testament to how much I enjoy this game.

I'm planning to start this up this weekend. Anyone have opinions on essential mods? there is nothing in the OP currently.

I found this and some of them look pretty great.

Puce Moose's.

I'll check what I'm running when I get home, but there is a nice hd texture pack mod as well as the underground hideout mod that I wouldn't play the game without. Also the weapon retexture project has made the weapons look amazing.

The only thing I felt was missing was better home bases. Eventually you'll get a home in one of the Vegas hotels and I got a mod to improve it: storage, crafting, displays, the whole nine yards.

I would suggest not playing with mods for the first play through. The game is fine as is and pretty short. Also it doesn't hurt as much if you destroy your game because of some odd mod combination broke something because you would have already finished the game.

However, my favorite mod would be the willow mod. Its one of the most advanced companion mods I played with. Oh I should back up a bit, the unofficial game fixes should be used even on a first play through.

To find the best mods I would go to the nexus nv section and look at the top 100 mods.

Well, I modded it up with the Nexus Mod Manager (that tool is awesome). Then, based on Baron's suggestion, I removed most of the gameplay tweak mods except YUP and one that removes the invisible legs from a floating robot companion. Of course, then the game won't start. I thought maybe it was the texture packs. That didn't help, but one of them required the 4GB mod, which isn't available in NMM and modified the .exe, so I just uninstalled everything, and repaired the app cache through steam.

Once you are actually in game, things aren't too bad, but the visual quality in that opening cutscene... there is something really off, and ugly about it. Then off course I sat at the creation screens for a while. I gotta say, I'm not sure I like the creation stuff being "embedded" into the opening section. I kinda would rather just have those screens at the start of the game. Fallout 3 did it this way too, if I recall.

I played a bit vanilla, but like an hour in, my PC crashed hard, which it does on a regular basis. I think it's the PSU, so I need to get a new one, but I'm also thinking of upgrading in general. A new video card, and maybe CPU. This thing is 4 years old now and was kind of midrange when I built it. Most things run fine (power issues notwithstanding) but while I may not always want to bother (most games have been "good enough" to me for a few years now), I'd like to be able to run high res textures. NMC's Texture Pack is really pretty :), and Sleeping Dogs is also on my pile and if memory serves, that has an official texture pack.

Just know that this game crashes a lot, even with the unofficial mod fixes. I finally threw my hands up in frustration; I don't have much patience for this kind of thing anymore. I wouldn't be so quick to blame your computer.

My PC, on average once a day, so even if the game is really crashy, my PC isn't helping any.

Fascinating series in which he's literally playing with no healing. One life bar, no stimpacks, one life.

Basically lots of armor and drugs. Good stuff.

You're fired!

God, I can't believe it's been four years since New Vegas came out.

No s***.

Bring on Fallout 4. Looooooong overdue.

Well, Bethesda got pulled into the Black Pit of Despair, aka yet another MMO attempt.

You'd think, after the debris strewn everywhere from all the other attempts, they'd figure out that no, their team is not going to do any better....

Well, I "worked" while this was on. Is that ok?

Yeah its a bit of a mystery why Bethesda doesnt release us even a tidbit of info on Fallout 4. They must know it will sell like hotcakes. If you look at the Oblivion-Fallout3-Skyrim trajectory then Fallout 4 is kinda due real soon.
Im guessing that they are actually making a new engine and that they will wait until the ps4 and xbone sales numbers are decent and then they wont release it for ps3 and the old xbox.
I hope they learnt their lesson with Skyrim and the xbox centric promotion and advance dlc exclusivity,
the lesson being DON'T!

anyway, Obsidian made a gem. How i wished their position was reversed, Obsidian had the franchise and the money.
Instead we get Bethesda, a company more interested in making wannabe cash cows like ESO and run by corrupt political insiders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_A._Altman more focused on money than games

Man, I'd much rather have Fallout: New Vegas 2 than Fallout 4.

Same here. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed F3. But the humour and missions in NV made it far closer in feel to FO 1 & 2. I can't quite put my finger on why precisely but comparing the two leaves F3 feeling a little flat. Oh and full of annoying subway tunnels.

Guess I'll just put this right here for now.

Very interesting sounding Fallout: New Vegas TC. Fallout: Lonestar.

I put together this Spotify playlist based on the Wave Radio mod playlist and a couple of other personal favourites. Good background music if you want to make your daily grind feel more like you're roaming the Mojave popping radroaches.

I followed the...playlist? Or you? I don't know things. Thanks!

You followed the playlist. Credit to Blake who did the original mod (which is worth installing), I just nicked his playlist and made a few tweaks.

Cool! Thanks!

I hope so. That was one of my (not so) Bold Predictions for the year. I'm betting on announced at E3 but shipping Fall 2016.
