WoW 5.0 - Mists of Pandaria

However, if you don't pull half the instance, prepare to get yelled at for going to slow and being a noob tank who doesn't know how to pull.

Yeah, well, every once in a while you get a hunter tank, mage tank, etc. I just ignore 'em. Slow and steady and we all get through.

My usual rebuttal is that if they want to tank then reroll. Plus I can't tank and type.

Your mini guide:

Pull with Avenger's Shield.

Use Crusader Strike (single target) or Hammer of the Righteous (multitarget) and Judgment to build holy power. If they're on cooldown, use something else (Consecrate, Holy Wrath, Avenger's Shield again)

When you have 3 holy power, hit Shield of the Righteous to do damage or Word of Glory if you need heals.

Pretty much this, yes.

Don't forget to turn on the IMAGE(http://wow.zamimg.com/images/wow/icons/large/spell_holy_sealoffury.jpg)Righteous Fury buff or your threat will not be sufficient and people will yell at you.

Sounds like you should roll a mage...because pew pew

So how is pvp these days? I remember a few years back when I last played, it was all about gear and less about skill. Lots of premades in BG's meant getting rolled if you are in a pickup group as well. Is it easier to obtain gear nowadays and compete? Does skill matter or still same ol same?

Ducki, he only additional piece of advice my raiding partner (jokingly) added was "don't run with a monk". We're so OP right now (I run a monk lately rather than the warrior, love the playstyle) that he sometimes feels self-conscious about my being able to do close to "poor" DPS levels on most fights while still being pretty unsquishy. On trash sometimes even if he taunts my dps level and burst threat with Keg Smash can be high enough that I'll pull it right back without even meaning to.

The one other specific serious comment he made last night was that when he compares his parses to top tanks' parses, it seems like they're using more Judgement than he is, so that might be something to keep an eye out for. I don't even have any clue what Judgement does these days (haven't played a pally at all in years), but might be something to keep an eye out for.

So, I tried out a panda to experience their story... once you choose Alliance and get sent to Stormwind, is that all the Pandaria content until level 85-ish, or do you get to stay in Pandaria if you buy MoP?

Once you finish the panda intro, then the next time you get to Pandaria is when you hit 85, with Mists of Pandaria.

Unless you're a monk in which case you should make daily jumps to the Kun Lai temple and get that sweet XP buff.

About how long is Stonecore? I'm not sure if I should try to LFD it on a weeknight or not.

Edit ... I'd probably go as Ret pally, since haven't tanked in years.

No more than 45 minutes I would think. Probably more like 30, and even faster with a geared group. Dungeons these days are not a big commitment.

Seilika(sp?) helped me out. Ended up running it like 4 times in about a half hour, because I missed a quest drop, then the boss died to fast then something else.

Thanks a ton!

Awww man, I just looked it up an you have to be level 89 to kill Coren Direbrew.

I hit 85 after finishing the Deepholm story and doing one daily for the stone guys! Some dungeons unlocked, but when I clicked on the link, it didn't go to dungeon finder, it is some other UI I don't understand.

Now I'm unsure if I should order MoP and WoD or go check out Vashir, even though I can't level any more.

The leveling story in Mists is pretty cool, and Pandaria is HUGE.

Vashj'ir is probably worth doing at least once to see how you like it. I think they did a great job with the underwater stuff, especially since you are basically flying everywhere once you get the underwater mount (very early in the zone). The story didn't really grab me, but the grand finale of the zone is pretty cool.

Well, I was hoping to do Coren Direbrew, but doubt I'll make it levelling in time. I'd also lie to be able to do the anniversary Molten Core before it disappears.

We'll see.

I upgraded to MoP, and boy, are the first mobs in Pandaria considerably tougher than the last ones in Deepholm. Granted, I'm Prot with a shield, so I can take two groups of 5, but it's taking longer to kill them and I'm taking a lot more damage.

Is it possible at level 85 to get to the Panda starter zone? I want to drop inscription for mining, and the node respawn in there is crazy fast for copper. Or is there a better, cheap way to power mining up?

Nope, there's no way to get to the Wandering Isle. It's like the Goblin starter zone, it's a one way ticket.

It's not too hard to level mining, it's just a bit of flying around. Most of the starting areas have plentiful copper, but I'd stay away from Durotar, Ellwynn Forest and Dun Morogh. Tirisfal and the Blood Elf start areas are better, mostly because they're a little harder to get to. Mulgore is okay, too, but I think a little more sparse, like the Night Elf start area and Darkshore.

I've maxed mining on a couple characters, and for me the easiest way to level mining is to follow a guide. No thinking required, just do what it says and fly around for a few days. Put on some music or catch up on podcasts.

You no longer need to mine old ores for leveling. Ghost iron can be mined from the start, the only difference is you get nuggets (10 nuggets form one ore) until you reach appropriate level.

Well you will get gold for quests if you can't level any more. Also, you probably haven't gone to Twilight Highlands, which was the level 84-85 zone when the game as released.

Honestly, though, Mists is pretty damn good. It's pretty tough at the beginning if you are a fresh 85 just coming from Cata content. You get some quest gear that bumps up your item level, but the first area can be rough.

Old ores will get you more gold, though (in the auction house). And a bit more scenery while you're flying around.

I dropped inscription for mining and for now am just hitting ghost ore andfishing pools while questing . I may supplement with old world and smelting some, but for now, I'm questing and levelling. I wish I hadn't missed whatever quests show what happened in theramore.

You didn't, there's only the scenario,
Apparently it was a minor event that did not need to be shown in the game, what with only establishing whole Jaina going insane and Garrosh starting a total war thing.

There's a Theramore's Fall scenario, but it requires level 90. It was Level 85 for a week before Pandaria launched.

Annnd Slackerhausered.

The story behind the scenario.

IIRC, some of the quests in the revamped Stonetalon Mountains hint at what happens in Theramore.

Yeah, this is what I'm concerned about too. I don't want to race through Warlods of Draenor, but I'm going to have to if I want to run the anniversary Molten Core raid.

Blargh.

I'm filthy skimming .... for all I know the post above is exactly this question, but here I go:

I just restarted the game - first time playing since 2009. Please recommend me some mods, because the vanilla interface isn't much better than when I left it.

I plan on DPSing in my small group of RL friends, which might eventually include some light raiding.

Thanks!

I use ElvUI. It's pretty much an all-in-one UI replacement. Once you figure out how to change the fonts, it's fine.

I would say the single most useful mod if you're going to be doing some group activities (dungeons and raids in particular) is still Deadly Boss Mods (DBM). Everything else is optional to me, but I consider DBM too crucial to pass up.
