Arrow: New CW show to replace Smallville

No, not the Felicity-Oliver romance! No! It doesn't work! Those two actors have no chemistry! The two characters have nothing in common! Why, Why?!!!

But, oooh, Ray Palmer!

Well, at least Queen Industries won't be taken over by a bad guy (maybe).

So apparently what I'm doing this weekend is watching five episodes of this in a row. And now I'm kind of interested in digging up the trades of the comics it's based on -- what should I be looking for? The county library system has volumes from several different eras -- which do you like the best?

The show isn't like the comics at all.

Actually, the New 52 version kind of morphed into a version of the TV show but it starts out absolutely terrible and unless you can find the comics written by Jeff Lemire, my advice is avoid them.

This is actually a pretty good list.

But yeah, like BoH said, the comics are nothing like the show.

When is season 3 coming out?

Nothing like the show is fine -- I'm curious as to the differences in the origin story. I don't want to dive too deep, though, so an idea of which are the most highly regarded stories is a plus. That list looks perfect.

The show website says October 8.

The Longbow hunters and year one are both great.

I watched the first episode of Flash.

LOVED IT. Absolutely loved it.

Serious Flash spoilers (really, don't read this if you care about the story because I am 100% that I'm correct):

Spoiler:

Also Tom Cavanaugh ends up as Reverse Flash. This revelation would have seemed a lot smarter before that last 30 seconds of the episode but w/e.

Not necessarily.

Spoiler:

Thorne could also end up as Reverse Flash.

My guess regarding Flash (which was quite fun):

Spoiler:

The Mysterious Mom-Killing Tornado is, somehow, a fight between Flash and whatever evil Flash gets called--he seems to have, like, four names.

As evidenced by my Big No, Arrow was awesome, until it caused me actual pain. WHY!?! DAMN YOU, WHY!?!

Oily, you may want to fact check the reverse flash theory.

Spoiler:

Specifically, Professor Zoom's secret identity.

Oh.

Balls.

Well, the person I mentioned is still bad news.

One nice thing about this show (for me) is that I know very little about the Flash. So things will hopefully be a big surprise.

I did really dig the Ferris Air cameo. Let's hope that leads to the obvious guest star.

I am now about to watch Arrow and SPP is freaking me out.

Is KG still alive? Can he edit to thread to include Flash because I'm willing to bet it'll be the same audience watching both shows.

Yup that's what I think too.

Spoiler:

Then something happens which makes Flash take his younger 11 year old self out (as he suddenly appears in the street) to keep him safe.

But yeah, pretty sure Reverse Flash will be Thorne.

#Arrow: Well, Roy's got a cool outfit.

I liked it. Glad it's back. I think these 2 shows are going to be a lot of fun.

Yeah, in regards to the new Arrow:

Spoiler:

kinda left me on the couch, jaw dropped, in shock as the opening minutes of The Flash began to rerun.

Some Arrow speculation, with a spoiler from trailers and interview snippets about this season:

Spoiler:

So, they've been talking about how Ra's shows up this season, so, reasonably, we're expected to believe Ra's and the LoA did the deed. Seems too obvious, though. My top suspect is Thea, after however many moons of Merlyn indoctrination, or, and this is an extremely dark horse candidate, Shado. Lazarus Pits! She could live again!

Hmm, it also snuck in a Ferris Air sign.

EDIT:

That was a hell of a surprise at the end! Glad they did it though. The Felicity romance was painful. I hope it's over.

Should we maybe make a new thread for The Flash? Personally I didn't think it was great. I dunno, I just don't like those tight shots of him running where it looks like he's standing in place moving his arms up and down while they motion blur everything around him.

I did like the name on the cage where it was obvious a creature escaped :). I'll give the show another couple chances.

Spoiler:

I agree League of Shadows is too obvious, and honestly I have a feeling that if Ra's shows up it'll be to figure out who did the deed himself. But I'm not going to make any guesses as to who did it, and I especially am skeptical of it being Thea. Then again, I don't quite remember where the end of last season had left her.

On another note: I feel like Sarah's death is, in some ways, a direct "This is not going to be a 'oh it's a comic-book show they can survive' situation". I mean, three arrows to the gut, a really, really high drop, head and back getting busted up on a garbage bin, and then you can see the blood matted to the back of her head and to her wig when Laurel lifts her up. It was brutal, it was one of the reasons I was in shock, and it is a pretty clear message that we won't be seeing Sarah again.

I went to check the Twitters to see what audience response was to the end of the episode and evidently there's an "Olicity" hash tag.

Honestly, I just don't get it. I like Felicity. I like Oliver. I want them to both be happy banging someone. I just don't think they should be banging each other.

Spoiler:

Sarah is the only person that made sense to me for Oliver to be courting, but God dammit they went and ruined that now didn't they.

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that the Olicity move is more of a "Lets get this out of the way" thing. Best to let the fans watch it fizzle out. And give Laurel this season to make up for her dismal season 2.

I mean, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.

Nope.

Spoiler:

Pretty sure Komodo killed Sara.

Going to be an interesting season. This plus flash = lots of awesome viewing.

OK, that was a pretty great premiere. It's where I hope The Flash will get to at some point. I was kind of "meh" on The Flash premiere, overall, but I have high hopes for the shared universe of these two shows and where they seem to be going.

The Buy More-ish store was a sweet nod to Chuck, since they brought in the bad guy from Chuck's last couple of seasons.

Felicity is working her way into a love...square it seems. She had a thing for The Flash, Green Arrow, and now Roy Palmer.

Spoiler:

She's potentially going to date three superheroes, assuming Roy Palmer becomes The Atom?

Ray.

And I don't see why not =)

My bad.

I'm loving the dichotomy in tone between Arrow and Flash. Makes a nice 1-2 punch (in the gut this week) to keep me entertained.

I can't believe we have four 1-hour comic book TV shows right now. Shield, Gotham, Arrow and now Flash.

Constantine starts this month also.

I thought The Flash was terrible but Arrow didn't start out strong either in S1 (Lost+Dark Knight+Arrows, they moved from that thank goodness). I'll give Flash the full first season as it takes these shows a season to lay their seeds and let them grow.

My wife did not like Sara dying but yes, Laurel is starting out the season even looking better (she looked anorexic last season) so maybe her acting chops will get a leg up this season. Plus doesn't Laurel become the Canary at some point anyway?
