Remember to log into GWJ channel - the one place where you won't get scammed.

Probably.

Sooo, you're telling me there's a market to do some scamming? :3

I picked up Eve when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago, I thought I was on a trial account but apparently Steam auto-subscribed me.
So I guess I'm playing Eve now.

Drop by the channel and we'll sort you out with the GWJ'ers care package.

There are few finer sights in Eve than Goons dying.

My old corp mates managed to pick up a Titan kill the other day. Someone from the Titan pilot's fleet was nice enough to put up a video of their perspective of the whole thing. It's a good lesson for anyone in how not to handle a situation like that.

The gank:

Other side (action starts after about 16 minutes)

Downloaded last night ! Ready to fly 6pm GMT. Any Goojers give me a shout !

Check the GWJ'er channel - address at the top of the thread

Obligatory reminder that EVE channels like the GWJ one only rarely get you instant response to things you say. Many of us idle online and only occasionally are looking at the appropriate screen or channel. We're not ignoring you! Be patient and you'll eventually get a reply even if it takes hours

Eve online has swallowed my life ! In the queue for University, spending every available second online.

Keep up with it Dino, you'll enjoy it. Take advantage of the classes in the areas that interest you, and use the wiki.

It's amazing how good you feel after adjusting supply chain routes to become 25% more profitable, especially when profits go towards memory and intelligence upgrades.
I am lost to this game.

So, what corps do people recommend? I'm looking to focus on Exploration for the time being, and I'm sure I have a lot to learn just yet.

I'm unlikely to be a terribly hardcore player ever. Likely popping in just once or twice a week to poke at things when time allows.

Eve University is a great starting corps.

Agreed, took me 6 days to get through the admin process, but it is such a valuable resource.

and I've just joined their mining corp !

I was looking at the EveUni website today - I've got concerns over the number of wars they often seem to be in (I don't really wanna futz with PvP yet - though I accept its fairly inevitable in the longterm), and they talk about having a strict policy against profanity. For text-based chat that's alright by me, but if I got involved with any voice comms. . . I just don't censor myself much when I'm speaking.

So, I dunno, I'm conflicted.

They're always at war because hi sec gankers think 'ooo, corp full of newbies....killmails ahoy'. Part of the training provided is in how to avoid camps, how to keep yourself going when easy transit to hubs is not available, and how to make your own stuff. As for the comms protocols, I'm sure that you'll be able to control yourself.

All of that training seems highly relevant to normal day to day operations in EVE.

Assuming you plan to ever undock anywhere you're already involved with PvP, you just don't know it yet. You'll be way better off if you jump in and learn it now while the cost of said learning is as cheap as it's ever going to be.

War with E-Uni was fun, and I'm not usually a PVP-centric player. There are a lot of roles to play in the fleet, and it definitely helped me get over the fear of losing ships They used to have a policy of reimbursing Tier 1 ships so there was really nothing to lose, but even if that policy is no longer in place, it's cheap to buy and fly a Tier 1 frigate and join the blob. And it's a great adrenaline rush at times, too

I've heard they're not quite what they used to be, but I don't have first hand exprience. I recommend looking into Brave Newbies.

One of my alts is in there - personally speaking, I wouldn't recommend BN for anything.

I couldn't help it. Came back. I'll join into the channel and maybe actually get around to playing with people. might keep me in the game longer

Wanted to say thanks for the care package. Logged onto the GWJ channel and got lots of good advice. Going to hit up eve university I think to get in and learn the ropes.

E-Uni is as good a place to start as any. Getting people to stay in the game after the first few days is really difficult unless they either enter a corp where they already know someone, or get into somewhere like E-Uni. Try out a few different things, take a few classes, go on a few roams, visit their mining campus, then if you fancy doing something else, look for a corp that specialises in it.

Above all - it's only space pixels

davet010 - thanks so much for the boost ! I am happily mining my life away with the AMC. Hopefully gonna start some patrol fleet action soon.

I'll likely go ahead and apply to E-Uni (if I can get my computer to STAY FREAKIN' FIXED! - that's another story).

What corps are Goodjers in? A smattering of everything with little cohesion? Or are there a few "favorites" I should learn about?

GWJ'ers don't tend to be in any one corp - there was a GWJ corp, but that's been dormant for all the years I've been in the channel. I'm not sure there are any particular favourite ones.

2 nights with no internet at home......first night I felt like punching something in the balls (preferably an IT supplier).
Last night I just felt like crying...! (sob!)

Think of it this way, dino.

What doesn't fly, doesn't explode.
