Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Catch-All

And I really appreciated it in Fable!

I go into every LOTR based game with hope....that does nothing to inspire it.

Well.

That looks like dragon age.

"Assassin's Creed II is good," I said to myself in 2009, "but it could be better. What if they added a familyin a refrigerator, hackneyed enemy lines, shoehorned it into an inappropriate license, and topped it off with a three-point landing? Dream big."

I do appreciate how the so-called next-gen Nemesis system will also be on the old-gen consoles.

The son died, too.

Trailer made me think of "edgy" mid-to-late 1990s movies (Se7en in particular). "Look at how messed up this is!" "It's so dark!" "You won't believe how we probe these psychological depths!"

Spoiler:

Is it a dream? Watch and find out!

Yawn.

So, is anybody playing this? Is it any fun? Sure looks cool.

If Amazon is to be believed, it doesn't come out until October. I agree it looks cool. I'm pretty interested in it.

According to Wikipedia it's not hitting shelves until October 7th.

Oh, ok. I think I read that as 7/10 and not 10/7.

It's those damned commie Europeans with their incorrect dating schemes. I'm surprised they haven't stuck a u in there somewhere.

Shadouws of Mourdour?

7 Octouber.

I think it could be solid.

To me it has all of the makings of an "OK" game at launch that I might pick up around Black Friday for $30. The combination of a "exciting new take" on a licensed property always makes me very skittish regardless of how good it looks.

Probably isn't a day one purchase for me, that is for sure.

Glueu.

Well, I'm not really opposed to more Tolkien games and such. I'm not really offended that they used that lore. I'd be happier if they fit it in the 2nd age of battling Morgoth. Silmarillion always had a kind of Wild West feel of grabbing what territory you could before Morgoth took it to me. And random crazy stuff like spirits possessing people were more common. Plus more dragons and Balrogs and werewolves and hey, why didn't they make this in the 2nd age?

Hopefully this is good.

So first The Evil Within was releasing a week early, and now so is Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. New release date is September 30th.

Depends. When you say "Wild West", would it be like a po-faced Redhorn Redemption, or more of a tall-tale Call of Warg: Swordslinger?

U made me CRYlaugh

People were going to have to move off of October 7 at some point, it was just too ridiculous.

I feel like this game is just sort of it that "it exists" category. I'm not really hearing much hype about it.

Nah, nothing specific. It just seemed like kingdoms were rising and falling all the time in the Second Age. I mean, Doriath was stable from the beginning of the SA until the end, but other than that, the lines that Morgoth drew were constantly shifting depending on which groups of Elves were fighting him and which Human Kingdoms were still around. Also, there were tons of interesting things going on. It wasn't just Humans and Elves vs. Orcs and Goblins. There were Dragons, Werewolves, Spirits, and Balrogs all over the place. Then there's evil Elves (Feanor, I'm looking at your people) and Treacherous Dwarves, and a talking Hound. I mean, I know sh*t got real during the War of the Ring. But in the Second Age, Sauron was simply one of Morgoth's many Lieutenants. Not even that powerful, he was mostly known for his ability to deceive. Imagine that. The Big Bad in The Lord of the Rings, just a lackey to the real power of the Second Age.

All I'm saying is that if you set it during the Second Age, you've got a much bigger sandbox to play in.

The opposite, the fact that they will probably never explore the Second Age, your post made me think how cool it would be.

I really like the look of this game. It's taken some of the edge off Dragon Age: Inquisition's delay, which left me very disappointed.

I'm not into Lord of the Rings at all, so any inconstancy with the lore and setting will just fly over my head - though as a big Transformers fan, i can appreciate just how annoying it is when a video game based on an IP you love gets it so wrong. It's the Nemesis System that really interests me. I hope they manage to pull this off as well as some of the videos portray.

This video was rather good. I think I'm in. I'll probably get it on the graphical power house that is the 360.

The game looks great and I really like the Nemesis system. I have two concerns:

1. The context surrounding the encounters (voiced by the narrator in the last video segment) is more left to the imagination (in which case I'd primarily interpret as "ok, I'm off to kill just another orc during just another mission on just another day).
2. That a lack of depth in missions, classes, abilities, etc. - even given the rune system for the 3 weapons you do have - is going to make this feel like Assassin's Creed in Mordor (and I got burnt out on those games relatively quickly).

I hope they're unfounded, this has a lot of potential.

Yeah. That video was awesome. I'm not pre-ordering, but baring bad reviews on release I will be picking this up.
