Fall 2013 & Spring/Summer 2014 TV Catch-All

Re: The Quest

Guess I'll finally dig into that. I've been hearing alot of buzz, and the only reason I didn't start watching is because ABC failed to promote the show. I hope ABC still doesn't have their awful video player.

Having finally finished up the fantastic final season of The Killing, my wife and I dug into season 2 of The Bridge. It has picked up where it left off pretty well. I think the show excels in having a lot of interesting characters in the midst of what is nearly as bleak of a story as what you get in The Killing.

I do wish I had watched the last few episodes of Season 1 again, because the show picks up on several threads from last season. If you liked the first season this is as strong.

Y'know, I didn't even know about The Quest until I was at a diner with my brother and roommate on Thursday night and it was on TV. I was actually flabbergasted at what I was watching and more so that it was on ABC of all stations. I didn't realize it was all in character though. Which only makes me scratch my head more that such a show actually exists.

The show's concept is pretty interesting. There are plenty of cringe worthy moments though, usually revolving around the players trying to interact with the actors and the scenes they are playing out. So far those moments haven't been enough to make me stop watching, but they can get pretty bad.

My wife and I just kind of consider it part of the charm. It's kind of like a renaissance festival set-up.

My favorite show on TV right now might be Utopia. It's insane.

NSFW because of violence. Otherwise okay.

The pilot to Selfie turned out pretty good. That show may end up being great. I'm definitely still on the fence, though. They may rely on the social media gimmick too much? Actually, I'm just not sure how much they can milk that angle. It's on Hulu right now. Is the show going to be a fall thing?

Good to see Karen Gillan is doing lots of new stuff. Lots of great chemistry between her and John Cho.

Edit: Yeah, it tells you September 30th at the very end, so it's a fall show. Can't wait!

Holy hell did they gut the cast of Franklin & Bash. We still enjoy the lead characters but the chemistry that worked for the rest of the cast is now gone. I'm guessing this will be the last season. Major cast shake ups like this rarely seem to be good for the health of the show.

yeah. Pinder was awesome.

Don't know about the girl, but Pinder has a bunch of new stuff that he's doing now.

So True Blood ended. I honestly was kind of surprised that they went for the

ending. It was a bit of a let-down, really.

Probably the best description for the series as a whole.

Yeah, that's over.

Really enjoyed it when it started but not sad to see it go. I just kept watching to see how it ended.

I think the most annoying part of the end they gave was how much better it would have worked if they hadn't killed Alcide 5 episodes before it.

Let's be honest. True Blood should have ended after 3 or 4 seasons. HBO was simply milking things as long as they could to get as much $ as possible (please note I avoided the obvious pun.)

This season (and last) was a colossal mess of writers trying to get themselves out of plots they had written themselves into with no idea where they were going. As well as adding a ton of extra plots that served no real purpose. Stereotype Yakuza led by a Japanese man with a southern accent... sure why not!

The ending was junk.

I admit to watching the entire thing simply because I started it and wanted to end it, but it ceased to be anything but background noise after the season with the witches.

We watched a chunk of the first season on DVD a long time ago. I always kind of wish we had kept up on it. We got HBO this year for the first time in a long, long time, and I watched a current episode, and it made me laugh a lot. It pretty much sunk the Under the Dome levels of stupidity.

And I only have time for one Under the Dome.

I really ought to write out the current plot lines for Clocky. If we thought it away from the book last season, this year is hilarious.

Hint.

Spoiler:

Three people are now out of the dome, there is an easy to access passage, but no one else is leaving.

As sympathetic as Bill and Eric and Jessica can (occasionally) be, it's hard to watch the series and not think that killing all the vampires is a really good idea.

The Strain just keeps getting crazier. I'm really starting to get into it.

[spoiler]Now there are some sort of elite vampire, vampire hunters! WTF![quote]

Yeah this was the best episode so far, it could get interesting, or it could collapse in on itself.

I'm glad that

Spoiler:

they made these elite vampires ruthlessly efficient and showed it. I was worried they would do some sort of fade or suggestion when they killed off the teen.

I know folks had issues with the sword fighting, but fortunately for most of the show the Musketeers lived up to their name. I really enjoyed the season, and look forward to the next. It was a bit jarring going from it to Dr. Who with Capaldi, though. Two very different characters, and I was having a hard time separating the conniving one from the save-the-universe one in my head while watching.

I immediately said screw it after this episode and ordered the books.

My wife and i have really been enjoying The Musketeers, too. We haven't watched Dr. Who yet, but I blew her mind when I pointed out that he was the new Doctor.

Well, sounds like there's at least a chance of it ending up somewhere else. Pretty dumb stuff.

The Strain has one more stupid episode before I give up.

The only good part of the episode was

Spoiler:

they finally killed Rudy

Manhattan is getting really good! There are just tons of well-written and complex characters.

Is the overall series as good as the pilot? I had never even heard of it until I read your post. I put it on an hour ago and was riveted. I imagined stunned executives handing over a blank check for the rest of the series. Does it say this good? How have I never heard of this, but I have seen numerous blog posts about Outlander?

The next 3 episodes are a little slow, but it really hits its stride with episode 5. Now I can't wait till the next episode.

HBO is playing dirty pool and airing the first three episodes of "The Knick" which is a Cinemax exclusive on HBO.

1st episode is really good. Not quite good enough to get me to sign up for Cinemax but it's good.
