GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

I'd like a way to hide or mute threads from 'My recent posts' if possible.

You just skimmed right past it before pushing it to an old page!

FTFY... and thanks!

Edit: Just installed, and it works perfectly! Many thanks again.

can we get a user script where we click to see --after a very reasonable $1.00 fee- what Certis edited out when his moderating a certain thread?

Curiosity gets the best of me.

That wouldn't really be feasible. It would have to save the text of every post you ever see (taking up a bunch of memory), and then it would only be able to show you the original text if you had previously viewed it yourself before it was moderated.

And that's all on top of the fact that it would be an attempt to override Certis' authority over the forums, which isn't that cool of a thing to do.

How about a $5 charge to moderate someone else's post?

There are cheaper ways.

Your dignity is on clearance?

In Chicago bribes are a buyer's market.

Something broken with the Amazon ads today?

Page freezes on loading, and it says "waiting for ws.amazon.com... forever. If I hit stop, it will load the forum page properly as if it was already finished loading.

I just noticed the same thing. I wasn't even aware our evil overlord was watching us. Is this new or simply something that I only noticed because it isn't working?

There's just a little amazon search bar on the left. Use it to buy something and GWJ gets something back. It's one of the most non-intrusive ad-revenue things of any site I use. So I don't block it with my adblock. But yeah, today it's been wonky.

ohhh. I never even noticed the search bar. doh. I'll have to start using it

This has probably been asked.

Is it possible, now, to post a Youtube video larger than 640xwhatever? I'm hoping to post a video window in a thread 1280xwhatever. Is that cool? Not cool?

I don't think the YouTube embedding is anything GWJ controls. My guess is that the bb code used for YouTube videos is just basically a front end for putting the typical YouTube embed code into the page.

Correct. I know there's a parameter for forcing HTML 5 video instead of Flash, which I'll be adding in, but I don't recall one for size. I'll take another look.

Every time I log into the site (as in 3 or 4 times today), I have to request a new password. Each time today, I set it to the SAME password...and alas, still need to reset. I'm starting to think it's a bug and not me (the first two times I thought it was me).

I know there was a widescreen-ish setting when I changed it from whatever old square setting we were using a few years back. I don't know about sizing, tho.

Yesterday and today, the Favorites page won't finish loading. None of the thread icons are showing up for me.

Edit: Nevermind, working fine now.

I'm afraid I don't have time to go through all of the pages and seek an answer to my question: Does anyone else run into the issue where typing "b" or "i" will automatically add a partial BBCode tag? I get this very frequently (Chrome), and it is super aggravating.

Yup. Known bug on the site. Tap ctrl once to stop it. Happens in Firefox, too.

Or disable the keyboard shortcuts entirely with disableEditorShortcuts.user.js

Switchbreak actually showed me how to fix that bug in IRC, and it's in Pull Request #55 that still hasn't been merged, along with some YouTube fixes (hint hint, doogiemac).

Bonus, are you referring to a public repo perchance? I'd be interested in taking a peek, but I'd understand if it's private!

Sent you the info in a PM.

Minor request: Can the top left 'Recent posts' link be changed to 'My recent posts" instead? It fits better with all the 'my' stuff and (on a purely selfish note!) it's the first place I visit on the site.

Major request: An option to hide all P&C posts in the 'Recent' lists.

At that point, it becomes programmatically insignificant to extend that functionality to all of the subforums. I wouldn't mind cutting out the sports and mmorpg stuff too.

I guess. I feel like I can overlook sports (go sports!)* posts in the recent list even though I dislike it only a little less than P&C.

* Sorry, but after watching an episode of Garfunkel & Oats with their song, I can no longer see the word sports without my brain appending "go sports!"

We're very, very close to starting beta on the new site soon. Just trying to get it out of ugly, ungainly baby phase so it's at least presentable for everyone. The main change is being on the latest Drupal, which will give us a metric ton of new functionality possibilities.

So we won't really be doing anything on the current site. When beta starts we'll definitely want lots of feedback and ideas!

Open beta or invite? I'd like to help out.
