LEGO Nostalgia

Already ahead of you. I stayed up till it turned up on their store last night.

$35?

Considering those space guys were the first sets I ever had, I couldn't resist. I think my grandparents got them for me. Also, I guess I had $10 in VIP points I was able to redeem.

These were the only sets I recall having with the classic space guys:

ooh! I have 6809 - XT-5 and Droid. I paid $2.29 for it.

This was my first space set (and I still have it):

Preorderd the exo suit as well as Ecto1. Then realized I was $8 shy of getting the mini mini cooper for free but already placed the order, sigh.

I finally got my train up and running with the IR remote thing last weekend. That battery pack is pretty amazing. I probably ran the thing for 2 hours while I was watching TV just to see how long it would last and there was no sign of it running down. I stored it on a bookshelf. The battery car and the caboose are "custom." I was working with limited pieces, so don't judge me. The end result is mostly a combination of the two train Lone Ranger train sets I have.

I was at the Lego Store the other day, and saw that VIP members get the Mini Mini Cooper if they buy the Mini before July 31. Fortunately (for my wallet) they didn't have the Mini in stock, so better sense prevailed. If I could have walked out the door with it, I'd be $120 poorer now. (But one and a half Minis richer.)

Also, the wheels don't turn like the old Model Team sets, so that helped edge me away from the impulse purchase cliff.

So the wheels on the Cooper Creator set don't turn? That's a bummer.

Like the train, Tuffalo. I wish i had run across that one on clearance at Fred Meyer, nice set.

I do not have Johnny Depp's Tonto on display. Both of those models get to stay buried in a bunch of other LEGOs. Also, I decided to give The Lone Ranger a shovel instead of a gun.

Just to clarify, I mean left and right—there's no steering. They still spin.

Ah, gotcha. I'm hoping for that Cooper for my birthday, else i'd buy it today:)

Oh, also noticed this is actually AVAILABLE on Lego Store atm:

The Research Institute

Rad.

I really am having trouble avoiding buying the cinema. It's probably the one LEGO set I should have but don't have.

Should have ordered that too, dammit! oh well, hope it makes it's way to the Lego Store in town.

Seeing the Lego Movie a few weeks ago got me thinking Legos again for the first time since the original Star Wars lego sets came out (I still have the original lego Slave-1 on display in my room).

I told myself I'd just get some movie mini figs that I wanted through Amazon, eBay and by buying couple cheap sets. And I'd stop there. Yet, Those sets were a lot of fun to build. And so now I'm sitting at Lego site looking at Ecto 1 and the architecture set of Trevi Fountain. So tempting...

Edit: broke down ordered both. Yay. Can't wait to play with build them.

The Research Institute was at the Washington Square (Oregon) Lego Store tonight. My wife found it and said "We're getting this set." I think it's the first Lego she bought for herself in years.

Oh, I am definitely getting those! I wonder if I can replace the artist on the top floor of my Parisian Restaurant with a scientist...

I know two little girls who love science that may just be getting a random gift. I just need to get off this iPad to see if those are available through the AU store...

I'm not holding my breathe (or even know if there is an AU store for that matter).

Road trip!

There is an AU store, and surprisingly, it offers pretty much the same as the US (you might want to check that out Nintendo...).

The only problem (for me) is that I need to spend over $200 to qualify for free shipping. The cost of shipping before that threshold varies from $25-$35, which is almost as much as half the order. $75 I could have stretched for, but sorry Lego Store, you just killed me with that cutoff and those prices. Looks like I have to take my chances with department stores. Seriously doubt they'll be carrying the Ecto1.

I just made my first big Lego order. My son has really been getting into the sets and I have a big interest in keeping that going.

The Research Scientist set (that I signed the petition for, yay!) is out of stock online, though I ordered it.

He'll be getting the Ghostbusters ECTO-1 when he's old enough. I wanted to order it while it was still being manufactured.

Otherwise, he's just splitting the difference between the Duplo and Junior sets. He has a big interest in both. So Christmas for him is already taken care of.

Any advice for nurturing this interest? I really have missed Lego...

And the order meant that I got the Mini Cooper Kit

I think there is value in both building the Lego by following instructions and in creating your own models. Seeing you be interested in Lego will also help grow interest your children. Also, children's Lego models will disintegrate (second law of thermodynamics). Don't get too attached to them.

Also, the Guardians of the Galaxy Milano spaceship set has a frikkin stereo system in it!IMAGE(http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/montyofmusic/Milano/milanointerior4.jpg)

I did not know they had that set! Must not buy. Must not buy.

Wait, what? Is that in the spaceship set they've got up on the shop?

My Exo Suit set has shipped! *runs around waving hands in the air*

I wound up splurging and getting a few Lego architecture sets, and the Ecto-1 Ghostbusters set. Built The Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Piza last night. Both are fun, fairly simple builds, with some interesting techniques to them, although the Leaning Tower got a bit repetitive to build but looks nice.

Trevi Fountain, the UN building and Ecto-1 all await me tonight and this weekend. Looking forward to them.

Aristophan, thanks for the advice. The order arrived, and we put together the mini Mini Cooper set together. My son enjoys getting down the little sets we've bought and just fiddling around with them.

Now looking with longing at some other sets, but the question is where they would be put.
