Wildstar: Catch All

I'll echo Ran; Whitevale is just an absurdly huge region. I'm actually getting a little impatient to finally progress to another zone just for some variety! The zombie/mutant crater area in the west isn't really that much of a break from the rest of the zone.

However, in spite of wanting a change of scenery, I do like how internally varied Whitevale is, especially going from the far east of the region to the far west.

Yeah, I was definitely glad to be out of that zone and into Farside, especially when the first segment of Farside is something far more lush.

Unrelated, but it's interesting how the factions aren't as clear-cut as they initially seem. Playing as Dominion, sure we're fascist jerks who go around torturing people at the drop of a hat, but the exiles we're fighting are gassing civilians and unleashing biological plagues and stuff. There's no good guys.

To be fair, the Mordesh were really trying to achieve immortality... the plague that resulted was pretty accidental.

That and given that the Dominion seems to have a bad habit of destroying planets and/or taking them for themselves and kicking people off of them... I'd say just about any tactic becomes fair game at that point.

That's not what I was referring to actually, but it is another mark against the exiles.
In one of the earlier Dominion zones there's a lengthy series of quests about exiles manufacturing a biological poison and unleashing it into the food supply in order to kill off the civilian Dominion colonists.

Yar, and the Mordesh can actually be a little messed up in terms of their interactions with nature while trying to find a cure for their conditions... but frankly, the Dominion doesn't have much in the way of moral high ground as the Exiles have literally just been trying to be left alone and find a new home while the Dominion keeps chasing them and destroying the homeworlds of anyone who even tries to help them.

I remember the Horde and Alliance being (up until that dude who apparently became a raid boss) pretty equally OK. There were some bad apples in both groups, but they both had good things going for them. The Horde had the Royal Apothecary Society that was all kinds of a mess and guys like whatever that dude's name was who went crazy. Let's face it, the Alliance created the Lich King with their crazy prince and the new King had a major stick up his arse understanding #NotAllOrcs.

But the Dominion has taken two planets from Exile races. As in kicked them off the planets and taken them for themselves. The Exiles found Nexus. The Dominion came in behind them and claimed the planet was theirs. So they're going for 3rd planet stolen. I'm not condoning the Exile tactics (I actually think they're stupid, as they hurt the civilian population, which is likely to increase hatred of the Exiles amongst a group that may have been more likely to sympathize...), but they've basically been on the run/hunted for wanting to go their own way and get away from the planet-stealing, genocide attempting Dominion.

eh... it was grey enough that i honestly didnt twitch that much when we made the choice to go Dominion. It's the first time i started a game as a 'bad' guy. Plus Illium is a MUCH MUCH better city to get around in than Thayd. Thayd is just annoying.

I think each faction has missions that paint the other faction in a bad light. There have been more than a few Exile quests that have dealt with Chua scientists concocting poisons, the ICI planting bombs in Exile towns, and other similar atrocities.

I actually plan to roll a Dommie at some point and join the Avatus crew - but I'm not ready to play a 2nd class yet, and the idea of leveling another SpellSlinger isn't all that appealing either. Was thinking about a warrior. . . but kinda wanna roll a Chua. . . . decisions decisions.

Having spent some time in both... I get the complaints about Thayd, but honestly, once you spend about an hour or so there, you learn it pretty quickly. The only real navigation mistake I make in the city with any regularity still now is going to the Eldan Ruins/Command Center to the north when I mean to go to the Spaceport.

But, for me, the moral differences in the cultures was why I had to go Exile. I can understand using any tactic if it means putting some distance between you and the hunter. But straight up trying to commit genocide of several sentient species for your pride of putting down the Exiles? Nope.

I spent the majority of alpha/beta time in Thayd (multiple 20+ characters). I only had one Dominion during that time and the difference between both cities are night/day. The cutesy cluttered feel got old after that hour or so

They've actually added some stuff from what I remember of beta to Thayd. There's now an Auctioneer and Commodities Exchange right next to the crafting area (with a mailbox and bank access next to it). That section is right next to the spaceport and all of that is pretty close to the Transmat station. For me, I don't even need to worry about the southern section of the city unless I need access to the guild bank (rare), the Elder Gems vendor (again, rare), or need to go to the museum ship to drop off an artifact (like once per zone?). As it stands right now, the city is pretty decent. I just wish the Secret Ops center was somewhere closer to the city rather than off to the north.

Once you finish destroying the cyborgs then it gives you a quest to go back to illium. You should check and make sure you got all that done and the jail yard sequence of events.

Whelp, got my main to level 6 and realized I was playing as an Exile. Oops. Looks like I need to start over on the Dominion side.

So who here plays late or plays on PST? After letting it lapse for a few days I've decided to give Wildstar another go but realized I could really use some leveling buddies.

I often do, what level are you?

depends on my work schedule.

Honestly I'd be starting over as dominion as my main is exile. I'm just getting left way behind by my other guild and the time zone makes it hard to ever group up.

Exile worlds and characters are lightyears more interesting than dominion I think :/

Anyone play Malgrave Trail yet? Once I get my Spacious house at 36 that is the next thing I am looking forward to trying.

How's the goodjer retention rate and general population retention rate in this now that early adopters have to pay monthly?

I am still playing almost every night.

Been a busy week and a half for me, but I look forward to playing more myself. It's a solid game.

I can only speak for myself but it didn't hold my attention for a second month, decent game though. To be fair, most MMOS don't. it was well worth the money vs time spent overall. The control scheme was a hurdle I couldn't quite get over.

Also, blame Divinity: Original Sin for not getting into it further. it has owned my gaming soul over the past few weeks.

I'm still subscribed and may return, but I basically went back to ESO a couple weeks ago.
I like the setting in Wildstar, but the quests/characters/story are completely forgettable; and while the solo combat is enjoyable, grouped combat almost seems intentionally designed to be frustratingly annoying and hostile to healers.

Still playing except for this weekend. Playing another beta event, but hit 50 and looking forward to trying out warplots

I ran out of steam with it. Solo content had a lot to do but nothing really hooked me in terms of story or environment; didn't care for the pacing/feel of the group content (although I can see why people enjoy it).

Having Divinity and Heroes of the Storm to play also didn't help.

I'm still plugging away at it on Stormtalon. Hit 50 on my medic about 2 weeks ago and am currently working on my raid attunement, not that I'm sure I'll go beyond 20 mans, but it's interesting to do in and of itself for trying to get something specific done.

I would say for those with story concerns, it picks up pretty fast at 30-ish. Once you start seeing the quests for Drusera (the ghostly woman you will see floating around on occasion), you start finding out more backstory surrounding Nexus, the Eldan, where they are, and what the Strain is (which, to me, seems to be basically the Wildstar version of the Lich King's army).

The newbies areas on Avatus are fairly empty. The other night I saw maybe three people and I was on for an hour and a half.

That's actually fairly common in the 1-10 range right now. I'm working on leveling up a tank to match my healer and the ship was pretty empty.

I'm still playing but when I'm on a rarely see anyone on the GWJ Guild on Avatus.

Can I get an invite to the Avatus guild? Nick is "Gopher" in game.

I'm still paying and playing - haven't gotten to L50 yet, but the last two weeks haven't left me much time to login.

But I'm excited about playing when the time comes.

Moving to England atm. Trying to get on, but do not have much time. Will be back on soonish.
