Elite Dangerous Catch-All

Theres quite a bit of fun in there right now, even in this early stage, and getting all the DLC (thinking waaay ahead!!) helps.

Still.. it's a lot of coin to be a crash test dummy, so to speak. Certainly not going to be everyones idea of a good way to dispose of their disposable income!

Looks like the ship refund for Premium Beta 2 doesn't include weapons and such. So you might want to sell off components if you have a lot invested there.

I'm holding out until Friday (payday) but will most likely buckle once my play money resets from this last camping trip.

looks good so far.

Today was payday
I'm watching the latest Scott Manly vid on b2
I'm drinking bourbon
The wife is going to be busy working this weekend in preperation for a work conference in Vegas on Monday and Tuesday
Tuesday is my last "I'M STILL YOUNG!" birthday

You've got a very short time to talk me off the cliff and save me $150.

I think I'll let you walk off that cliff.

So what number is that? I've a very bad feeling that I passed it long ago...

My 10th 29th birthday, Female Doggoes!

Well, many happy returns, young 'un!

Just made about 10K in 10 minutes, Tantalum cylinders floating all round Dahan Gateway. Someone must have popped open like a piñata

Couldn't have said it better.

If your youth is ending, why not make a brash decision?

So I understand this is a sandbox game but is there any concept of missions or jobs either in now or slated to be?

If I recall correctly, In the first game you would occasionally come into port and get a mission offered to you, but it was very sporadic. In the Frontier games you had a job 'message board' and you could pick and choose what you wanted to do.

I think they have mentioned they'll have missions you can pick, but at the moment it's not in there.

At the moment you basically

- Play with the trading mechanism
- Fly out to a distress signal, pick a side and kill NPCs for credits (and hope a player with a bigger gun doesn't flag for the other side!)
- Check out beacons. Can often end badly.
- Go to combat zones of various intensities. In my experience, this also ends badly.
- Gawk at the awesome visuals
- Upgrade a few bits and pieces, buy a few different ships, play with a fit out options etc
- Get your Tourettes happening at occasional ship crushing bugs

It's actually more fun than that sounds though, even at this very early stage. The basics they give you to play with are very solid.

I would imagine the 'full' beta later next month will put a lot more flesh on the bones.

Under the cold light of sobriety no less. It'll be a bit before I can get into it though. My proper gaming workstation with my HOTAS hasn't even been booted in months so I've got a big update dance ahead of me.

I've got my Warthog setup, TrackIR working, and rudder pedals all going now. Does anyone know how many controllers it's supposed to support? My button box isn't working unfortunately. I should see if it works if I pull the rudder pedals. I can't register or search the forums right now because the image verification isn't loading for me.

But man, I suck. I'm on the second combat scenario and keep getting my ass handed to me.

They got a lot harder in the beta.

I went back and did the first combat again, toying with the easy guy, getting more used to the controls, and experimenting with disabling the flight assist. Then I had a much better go at the Crimson Victory. The Federation fight after that was a lot easier. Hurray, gimbaled lasers and missiles! That's as far as I've gotten so far. I spent a fair amount of time just figuring out how things are mapped to the Warthog and learning how to interact with the panels. Once I get a better feel for the controls I need I'll probably just use a joystick to keyboard mapping program so that I can use my button box too.

TrackIR, triple monitors, 5.1 sound, and a darkened room makes for an amazing experiences though! No buyer's remorse here. The wife is headed out of town for a few days so I'll be getting some decent stick time in.

Well, er, make sure you play some Elite once you're "finished"?

Oh good, it wasn't just me.

Yeah, I thought about rewording that but figured I'd leave the 'bate.

I'm thinking about jumping into MP later so that I can explore around. If I don't buy anything is there any real penalty for dying?

Nope. You have two options when you die. If you have the money, pay the insurance to get your ship back in its current configuration, or take the free starting Sidewinder (and it will bring you up to 1000 credits if you have less than that). I think the insurance cost is 10% (5% for Alpha backers).

Also, happy birthday, LiquidMantis.

Oh wow, I only just noticed this game. So I've got super fond memories of playing Privateer when I was a kid, how close to that is this? Can I buy goods and commodities from one space base, fly to another and make oodles of money, buy new ships, upgrade the crap out of them, all the while doing bounties and killing pirate scum?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Do you hear that screaming and shrieking? That's my wallet, crying in fear. I can't buy this yet can I?

No need to buy it yet.

You most certainly can buy this now (meaning it's in their store).

By no means am I'm attempting enablement or peer pressure but just so you have the facts:
Current Premium Beta is $150 - $50 game, $50 Lifetime DLC, $50 I LOVE YOU, BRABEN! fee
On July 15 the Premium Beta will no longer be sold.
On July 29 the Regular Beta is released. $75 to buy in, but the Lifetime DLC will disappear forever.

So if you're fine waiting to see what, if any, DLC comes out and then purchase it on its own merits you can get the supposedly much improved beta in a month for half the price. There may be some reduced ship insurance fee for beta backers though.

Question for the experienced people: What is the [newly added] small reticle in the upper-right of the dashboard area, next to the speed gauge?

Also got the Lifetime DLC deal.
I think I will get enough out of it for that money.

My vacation will be right when Regular Beta gets
released. Which means, I will start playing it only
starting 21st of August or something lol
Just no time during my vacation. Which is fine
