Destiny Catch-All

So, did the folks in alpha receive a confirmation email when they signed up? I did not. I'm afraid I might have screwed something up during the process.

Oh my god, Clock/Minarchist/now faceless. How many accounts do you need?!

That doesn't bode well for me then

I guess the group I was with was horribly underlevel, but the game didn't do anything to tell us that before we started.

To be fair, the menu does say level 6 before you enter, but it lets anyone in anyway - great for an "extra challenge" but lame when you get paired up with underleveled players that didn't pay attention - and even at the recommended level 6 it's really difficult - maybe unless you got lucky with great gear for that level.

Played a bit with Tuffalo and someone else (sorry forgot your name). Sorry I dropped out, but I have yet to get a mic working consistently, which is annoying, and looks like communication is important.

Few very early observations (barely an hour played)

1. Not a fan of the interface having a PC mouse-pointer system in the skilland some of the other screens. Maybe a good sign that this will be out on PC, but its just slow and unintuitive IMHO on a console.

2. Obviously Alpha, but a better quest system would be helpful. Maybe I'm too spoiled now with WoW or other newer RPGs, but i do like it being fairly clear on a map where quest goals are, or at least an option to turn a big fat arrow on. We were playing 3 players last night, and one of us was just completing the active quest "somewhere" and I had no idea where to go to help.

3. Along the same lines, is there some way to teleport to friends? At some point I stopped to fight while my mates went forward on their vehicles. 2 or 3 deaths later, my teammates were in a completely different part of the map while I was alone fighting enemies 2-3 levels higher than me. Had to spend about 3 minutes on the speeder zipping through interiors environments and dodging enemies to catch up.

Hope to get a few more hours in this weekend to get a better feel for the game.

For those having trouble with the download, I read that using Google's DNS speeded things up drastically. I'll have to try it when I get off work.

In your PS4 setup, just change your primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and your secondary to 8.8.4.4

I can't speak for every territory or ISP but where I am, PSN used to be quick and became almost unusably slow. Doing this made it work not as good as it should but definitely much better.

FYI, I just learned on another board that you equip heavy weapons by holding triangle.

cool! didnt even know i had a heavy.

Well you have to find/buy one first, too. I thought it was class-specific, but it isn't.

Well hey, I just got an invite! I guess my registration worked after all.

I think that I just got invited to the alpha, but I need to confirm on my PS4. That'd be cool, as I only have a beta invite at the moment.

Played a bit today. It seems pretty fun, but only with other people. The combat felt a bit tedious while soloing. Definitely getting Halo and Borderlands had a baby feeling from it, but that's not a bad thing. Add me up on PSN. I'd love to play with a bigger group over the weekend.

We had fun, though those event guys hit like a truck. I'd like it if waypoint markers stayed up instead if forcing you to hit the touchpad over and over.

I'm in, looking forward to grouping up!

I'm in the alpha and should be on tonight. Once I remember the name of my PSN+ account I'll share it here.

Hehe, that may just be an IRC joke you're not in the know on. Happens a lot.

That was me.

1. The UI is strange but I kinda like it. It's well designed apart from the fact that you're forced to use the analog stick for a free cursor movement. Maybe let the touchpad control it too?

2. When you bring up your ghost (press the touchpad) it will point out which way you need to go to get to the next quest, and there's a pointer on your compass even when that isn't up.

3. I'm not sure if there is or not, and I kinda wished for it last night as well. After you left it still took a while for tuffalo and I to meet back up.

I will be on tonight. Send me friend requests and party invites.

PM me if you need an alpha invite for PS4.

Was that you on earlier? (I was VaultDweller1981) I swear I was running around with you for a little bit there.

I'll try to find some of you folks tonight, and if it seems like I'm ignoring you it's because I don't have a mic

I'll be on in 5...4...3...

Thanks to the awesomeness of Theotormon, I should be online and trying the alpha Saturday night after I set up my new PS4. My PSN id is "memory-tapes" and I'm very happy to accept any friend invites.

Yep that was me. Tried voice chat but I guess no microphone on your end?

Played a bit more. I feel like the enemy layout, respawn rates, health / shields and other things need a serious amount of tweaking. The combat controls themselves are pretty tight already, however.

Ah, yeah it looked like your mic was live but I wasn't hearing anything. Could other people hear you?

Played some with Cobble (sorry my mic was tangled in a rats nest of cables, so I couldn't get it out to talk to you). Game is a lot better with multiple people.
Multi player is pretty easy to jump into and out, which is good.

Could you hear me though? I felt bad for just jumping out to tower if you didn't hear me say I was going to log..lol

The game is fun but the missions seem sort of tedious at the moment, it feels very much like grinding.

Oh and I suck at throwing grenades, I blew myself up once because it bounced off a crate, and then i bounced one off of Taharka's head. lol

I could hear you, yes. But your mic kept cutting in and out when you weren't talking, meaning I got random snippets of noise.
And I was wondering how you died that one time... now I know.

As for missions... yeah, they're repetitive, but at least they're scattered all over so when you finish one, you get the next one right away.

I made a GWJ clan.

Go to alpha.bungie.net and sign up with your PSN ID. Then go to Clans and search for GWJ.

Joined! That website is pretty slick how it integrates with your PSN ID.

Playing the PvP multiplayer is very bad for me if I use wireless. I'm hoping the PC version is confirmed soon because I would rather play this game there.

I like the PvE though. This has a feel similar to Borderlands 2. I'm hoping that loot is a bit more common in the final release because so far there hasn't been much loot to decide on.

You know, I always have thought that I would love a Mass Effect MMO because of how the controls are. I've always hated WoW style control schemes.

This is sorta the game I had in mind. I'm really liking how everything feels.

Uhh, I tried to sign in to Bungie's alpha site and it said I'm not authorised. Not sure what's going on there. Hopefully I can sign into the game itself.

EDIT: Got it! Turns out you have to run the alpha once first before you can register with the site.
