Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

I completed Tropical Freeze (100%) just now. The final bonus level was one tough cookie.

Overall, I loved everything about the game. It's rare that I complete any game, which is testament to just how good Tropical Freeze really is. The level design is amazing. The controls are fantastic. The art style and the unforgettable musical score are a beauty to behold. It stands as one of my all-time favorite games across all generations, without question.

I'd love to compare favorite levels, most difficult moments, memorable music tracks, rate the K levels, and so on and so forth. I'll keep them in mind for when a few more of us complete the playthrough.

So, anyone want to lend me a copy? Gonna be getting a Wii U this week.

This is just to say that I love this game, but I can't seem to play it. I keep firing it up, playing half of 4-1, then turning it off and playing something else. I think I got a little burned out doing my speed run of the first level.

I finally "beat" the game this weekend, by which I mean I finished up the standard playthrough and got the credits roll.

Now I'm going back to unlock all the extra stages in each world that you access via secret exits. Then I'll go back and start going for full completion. Woot woot! This game is seriously awesome.

That rocket level in World 5. O_O

ALL those rocket levels. O_o

So brilliant. SO GOOD.

World 5 is criminally underrated, IMO. I love the whole story it tells, and the difficulty really ratchets up there in a fun way.

And there are definitely crazier rocket barrel areas later on. Well, only two. Too bad; I love those things.

I do really like how there's a fun progression there from picking the fruit to processing it to freezing it into popsicles. I'm not usually a player who is in love with spectacle, but I love the really rich level of detail in this game. It's amazing to play through a level watching the foreground and then play through it again watching the background, because there's just so much packed into every little corner.

Oh, I hadn't realized World 6 would be based off the Wii game. That's fun and nicely nostalgic.

Lots of little easter eggs in it, too. I think every boss makes an appearance. (My favorite is the bat in 6.4.)

World 6 has my favorite levels in the game. They're really great, which is especially impressive considering how good the first few worlds are.

This last boss just isn't fun.

I checked this out from the library and I'm glad I only have it for a week. On the surface it looks like a simple kids game, but there is something sinister going on underneath. I've never been more frustrated at a game as I have with this one. I'm on the second island and have been yelling at the TV for a few days now. My kids keep telling me to stop playing if I'm that frustrated, but the truth is I can't. This game is very well done, it's hard enough to drive you bananas, but good enough to keep you from turning it off.

Yeaaahhhh.... DKCR is the Dark Souls of platformers. (couldn't resist)

This game is pretty awesome so far. That cart level in Sea Breeze Cove was infuriating though. Talk about messing with your head by putting the tracks at an angle but not making the direction on the controller match. I had to switch it to the D-pad to beat it.

Played through the first level. Uh, this game seems as awesome as advertised. I'm SO glad they've fixed the controls from the Wii game (the 3DS remake was only marginally better in that regard).

Anyway, great first impression.

Gals you're enjoying, Garion! There are some wicked hard parts, awesome level designs and frustratingly rewarding challenges ahead of uou

I just want to say, I just beat this game recently and it was one of THE BEST games I've played in a long time. I had to go to my friends and tell them, but they we're like "The old donkey kong countries were better" and "I didn't really like DKC Returns so..." and even some others were like "Yeah. Wii U and Nintendo sucks now." And when I saw that you guys liked it too...not gonna lie...my heart just about leaped out of my chest and danced on my desk...

But anyway, yeah, such a good game. Still looking to get all the secrets (I've gotten all the relics except the one on DK Island). But yes. I applaud this game. The characters. The music. The everything. So good. 2 thumbs waaay way up.

The WiiU corner of GWJ has a way of making hearts flutter. ;p

I've been replaying the original DKC trilogy via the Virtual Console, and while they do hold up, it's been solidifying my opinion that Tropical Freeze really is the best of the DKC games. The only knock against it is that the boss fights are a little on the tedious side, but the controls and level design in all other regards are absolutely top notch.

The angled view carting levels suck! Not adjusting the controls to represent what you are looking at on the TV is just mean. All the 2D levels are awesome though.

My GOTY 2014! So, there's no surprise behind my unwavering support for the awesome that is Tropical Freeze. Glad to see it reaching a wider audience.

Just got this as my free Club Nintendo game. My oldest rented it last year and we played it a little, but man was it hard! I don't think we even made it past the first boss.

I really have to get to this game. I picked it up about 6 months ago and its been sitting on a shelf since. I keep letting other games get in the way but it sounds like I shouldn't.

I've been replaying Donkey Kong Country Returns on the 3DS (best way to play that game, btw) and it's making me itchy to go back to this. They're both just so good!

And as ever, what the hell is Retro up to these days? We now know it's not Metroid Prime.

Maybe Nintendo is letting them tackle another dormant property, like F-Zero? Hey, I can dream!
