iOS Games Thread Catch All

Thanks, that's good to know. But I was thinking more of the fun factor, as in would the game still be enjoyable if played only in short bursts or does it require you to have say half an hour to get the fun out of it? Sorry for not making that clearer.

I've only played a half hour, but the dungeons so far have been less than 10 min affairs. Of course, you always have to go back to town and fiddle with your character for 10 more mins after that:P

That does sound promising, fiddling time is often rewarding in and of itself
I'll probably get it tonight when I've put the kids to sleep.

Dragon Quest 8 out on iOS. Didnt see this coming.

Only had a little time to put into Battleheart: Legacy. So far... it's most impressive.

Re: Batttleheart Legacy, maybe I got to it under leveled, but it seems the final boss has a full life one hit kill. Anyone beat it got tips for a wizard build?

Dream Quest. Buy it now, play it often.

Definitely this. And definitely unlock the professor class if you can, they are really fun.

Wanted to provide my contrary opinion on Battleheart Legacy. I won't say its not good. It does some very nice things. Great art style and animation but apart from that it's not different from any other grindy RPG from what I can tell. Go here, do a short level, if you die, try again. If you still die, go grind a lower level one. I see a few proper choices here and there that can affect things but in the first 2 hours there's been one or two. As far as game systems go, you have fighting and more fighting. Fighting is its strong suit but it's not really as fully featured as I was expecting.

The price is perfect for the game though. It's deeper than a $1 game but shallower than a $10.

I'm hoping they expand the options in updates because I dont see continuing to play much longer.

I know what you were meaning, but that's actually a recommendation. They are what they advertise, and succeeded in making what they set out to. Sounds perfect.

A lukewarm recommendation is contrary to the glowing praise... Right?

I'd say a review harsh with the burning wrath of Ashura would be closer to being contrary to a glowing review.

Were it deserved. The fault here is partial mediocrity.

Yeah! Grabbed it. Still need to finish the first one!

Hi all! I have a favor to ask. I play a game called Guardian Cross - it isn't the greatest game in the world, though I am addicted to it You hunt for your cards ( which is pretty much the only interactive part of the game ) so they can do battle with other people ( in the Coliseum ) and NPCs via quests. The battles are just how the cards are placed in the deck versus how the opponents are placed, though there is an extremely slight strategy to that. For example, put all your high powered cards at the front, and if your opponent manages to get past those, then they will probably win unless you kept a strong one towards the end.

One of the things I like to do with the cards I've won is to then take screen captures and use them in a jigsaw puzzle app I own called Join It

Anyways, my favor is if anyone hasn't yet played it, if you could try it out and use my friend code so I get a couple of free cards. You also get a free card by doing this, and who knows, if you like the game I'll throw some 4star cards your way ( I'd give you 5star cards, but that is what I'm working towards creating a full deck of).

If you do decide to try it out, my friend code is HI36961

And I apologize for the soliciting

Twilight Struggle for PC, Android, and iOS hits Kickstarter. They've already gone roaring past their mark.

Playdek is doing the digital work. With their history of post-release support, I'll likely pass.

What have they done badly? Not arguing, just curious.

Republique is the app of the week and free:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/repu...

It's episodic a la Walking Dead/Wolf Among us, and only the first two episodes are available. You will need to purchase additional episodes or a season pass. It has been getting great reviews, however.

I'll be grabbing that in case I ever decide to let my ipad 2 upgrade to ios 7. Thanks!

I'll go app by app right now.

Nightfall: There are 4 (at least) more expansions, multiplayer was having severe issues the last time I played (8 months ago). No word on if it's ever going to get touched again.

Summoner Wars: There are 6 more factions and second Summoners still out there. The app was basically unusable for 7 months while Playdek worked on LoW, then magically said "It's Apples Servers!" right after they released a patch. It worked for 3 months, and broke again. No ETA on a fix. I can't restore the purchases I made (Every faction and pack they've released to date), so offline play is out. No communication from Playdek on anything related here.

Agricola: The I and K decks are part of the base box purchase, they are addons with the $2 price tag for the app, came out well after the app did, it looks like there are no plans for further expansion. Agricola has a metric crapton of expansions that will likely never be released.

Multiplayer : They've promised chat - still nothing there. The servers get unresponsive for multiple games with no communication. Right now, I can give them a pass due to the wildfires in California. Carcassonne has the absolute best Multiplayer experience I've found in an iOS boardgame, and it's 4 years old this month. Playdek, for being such a touted multiplayer company, has fallen flat in this area consistently.

As for Playdek the company, they've gone pretty silent since the Kickstarter for their "going back to our roots game" Unsung Story. They're losing Ascension at the end of the year but keep putting out expansions for it, they're ignoring fans of games they've previously done.

I get that they have to make money, they are a business after all, but the lack of communication, the inability to respond to folks who want to see expansions on a game that has more than a few, and the general arrogance in the communications I've seen make me want to go find another company to give my money to.

All they've done was two or three promo packs. Hardly a ton of work, although the last one was a handful of cards unique to the iOS app made in conjunction with Stone Blade (and will likely exist in the Ascension Online client whenever that happens).

My impression of Playdek is that they're a very small company (or division) that's stretched way too thin on the various licenses. If it's contract based work, some of the blame might fall at the feet of the of the physical publishers too, or there might be some market realities going on where it's not worth the effort for either party to continue support if the app isn't selling so there's little point in sinking money on making more IAP.

It's not like the Carcasonne app has all the expansions yet either. 4 years should be plenty of time to shove out more than 4 of the numerous expansions, yes?

I don't think you're wrong to be jaded or cynical about the company, but aside from the multiplayer issues with SW, I really can't agree with you about the other points.

I lay the fault at the feet of Playdek. It should be Playdek's responsibility not to spread themselves too thin, not the Physical Publisher's, since it's likely they don't have that kind of insight into Playdek's infrastructure. If it's a business decision, then they should be communicating that (e.g Nightfall - it's been all but spelled out that there won't be any future work done there).

I agree, and TheCodingMonkey team seem to be accelerating the release of expansions.

I still play Guardian Cross occasionally, I'll try to remember to put your friend code in when I get home, although that won't help for getting the "new player" bonuses.

I don't have any actively playing friends to send my bonus Silver Slimes to anyway.

It's actually a really addictive little title. Cragmyre got me hooked onto it ages ago, and I still have it installed (I am ashamed at the amount of IAPs I bought to get an extra chance to snag the rarer monsters in the hunting grounds ).

If you ever want to ditch your cards

Also, you don't need IAP as much any more. Every day they have a logon bonus, and every 7 days it is a Special Hunting Ticket ( which guarantees at least 3 stars or better cards ). I will say that the Coliseum is really tough now though, the players have REALLY high level cards. I never do well enough to get new cards from it, though I usually do well enough to nab some nice boosts for the cards I do own. But, as I said before, my favorite thing to do is catch new cards ( they always get cataloged ) and use them as pictures for my jigsaw puzzle app

Even if I never do more than explore the beginnings of all the skill trees, I feel like I'll get my money's worth.

What skills you have access to depends on which stats you improve as you level up. Different abilities (and some equipment) are unlocked based on how high you push your stats. There are synergies between some of the classes, of course.

Some details of the different classes (I don't know why I'm spoilering it, but just in case you don't want to know, I suppose.)

Spoiler:

Default classes:
Rogue - Dexterity and Skill
Arcane Magic - Intelligence and Skill
Knight - Strength and Endurance
Paladin - Charisma/Strength/Endurance
Ranger - Skill and Dexterity

Unlockable classes:
Bard - Dexterity and Charisma
Ninja - Skill/Strength/Dexterity
Monk - Strength and Dexterity
Barbarian - Strength and Skill
Witch/Necromancer - Intelligence and Endurance

I'm probably missing something obvious, but I don't see where I can add a friend using the friend code. It looks like the friend codes are maybe only used for inviting people to play the game, not friending people who are already playing?
