Elite Dangerous Catch-All

Found this guy streaming some ED. The game is really nice...

I love the little bobblehead thing on his dashboard. You could just imagine some scruffy pilot tapping it for good luck before jumping to some nasty system.

thread changed to catch all, thanks!

Good point, not sure how they are going to talk themselves out to of that one.

It's pretty easy, although I don't know that they will do it. Even on a modern battlefield, firing up an active radar is like painting a big target on your head - a good way to get rapidly blown up. Add in the kinds of distances you might expect in space and some reasonably stealthy construction materials on the fighter, and active radar quickly becomes more risky than useful. Passive sensors - especially heat sensors, with the near-absolute cold of space as a backdrop - would be a lot safer and probably more effective.

Works for me. It's not like I need too much to suspend disbelief

Watched a bit more of Elite and indeed, it's more about controlling the heat and not announcing to the world that you are there.
Works for me.

Yeah once you get a system down for switching to the right panel and changing the sins the heat management aspect is easier.

How's the graphics?

I thought they were very good. I'm waiting until I get the full beta release for a full judgement, but for the big I've had access to do far I have no complaints.

Elite is one of the games that I know would have eaten my life was it available in Australia when I was growing up. I'm looking forward to this.

So release date end of this year, pre-order is $50. That's pretty decent.
You can have a subscription to all DLC for another $50. Might go for that
as well.

And I've pre-ordered the game. Can't wait to play it

People who've played this: Do I want in on the beta for €60 or do I just want to wait for the full release and pre-order for €40? Or do I want to sit and wait?

Bearing in mind I've got nothing that's grabbing me in my pile I want to play and I'm on a bit of a space thing at the moment.

Im in the Alpha, and Alpha 4 is now up. This is a 5 light year region of space. Trading is now on and as seen above, the hyperspace jump is awesome (and the super cruise feature reminds me of Independence War). details are astounding. Try flying into the rings of a planet and you will suddenly find yourself in a giant boulder field. Very pretty game

I saw one of the devs talking about it. To make yourself invisible, or less visible, turn things of or manage it better.
Pretty cool mechanic.

Did you forget about the invention of radar-absorbing structures and materials in the future?

Stop making sense! You know nothing, Jonman!

Spoiler:

good points indeed!

No buyers remorse with any of you guys purchasing the premium beta even though its not even out yet and only playing single player missions?

Trying to find ways not to pull the trigger.

I have not yet run into buyer's remorse, but I've only had it a week, so I'm still very much in brand-new-bright-shiny-toy mode. I got to the mission where I have to be all stealthy and manage my signature. That involves tweaking stuff in the side interface, and I ended up going on a binge reconfiguring all my controls and pondering a HOTAS setup. And the premium beta with multiplayer starts in 8 days (right before I have leave for a week for work, doh!).

MI

That's where I got as well. No buyers remorse at all. Definitely a game that benefits from a HOTAS setup, but can be played with mouse and keyboard or a simple joystick. Going to spend a lot of time with it this weekend.

FTFY

When I have time to turn my brain off(driving) I've been calculating if the premium beta is worth it.

This is bad.

$100 for full release and DLC pass vs. $150 for early beta, which includes the DLC pass. MP beta also releases on my next payday.

I'm doomed to repeat my endless cycle of senseless pile accretion.

Have you seen the videos and screenshots??

I'm thinking of forking out for the €60 Beta access then considering adding things on down the line if it gets its hooks in. Like DLC. Or a HOTAS setup. Or a 3 monitor rig....

On the plus side, my hankering for a space game has made me put some time into X3 Terran Conflict which I'd never got anywhere with before. Which is nice.

This

I'm beginning to wish I had backed this instead of SC. It may turn out good in the end, but that end appears several years distant.

Also, $100 is a bit much. It will wait. Play me for a sucker once, shame on you. Play me twice, shame on me, etc....

Still watching with interest in the mean time.

I am inching into pulling the trigger on this. I made an Elite Store account. This is bad.

DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT

This really looks fantastic. I had a big plan for E:D plus Oculus Rift DK2 for my 40th birthday this year, but Zuckerberg put me off. 50 quid for beta or 100 quid for premium beta (plus DLC, I know) is a big ask though. Have there been any statements about how much DLC there is likely to be? If it's just a couple of tigerskin ship skins and the Hotblack Desiato ship then that's not so attractive.
