iOS Games Thread Catch All

Anyone who was a fan of Dungeon Raid, or Match 3 in general, might want to keep Darkin in mind. It comes out this week, and I'm pretty excited, as there's really not anything else like it, which I find baffling.

Looks decent, but I'm not sure why I'd play that over Dungeon Raid (which is still awesome).

Because it's another game, and DR is quite old? Sorry, couldn't tell if that was rhetorical.

Thank you Aretz, Ranger Rick, Cyrax, and DixieFlatline. Another super fun 5 player GWJ Lords of Waterdeep game in the books. I feel like I got super lucky - I thought Cyrax had it for sure.

Nope, wasn't rhetorical at all. It was very much in the "if ain't broke, why replace it with something that seems virtually identical except for an art style that I like slightly less". I thought the trailer/review/whatever did an exceptionally poor job of differentiating it from the game that it obviously draws heavily from.

8 best iPhone and iPad family games to play with your kids

I saw this list on pocketgamer and thought some people might like to check it out. I will be picking up a couple on the list especially Whoowasit? My kids love a couple Ravensburger board games so it will be neat to checkout their ios attempt.

What, no Spaceteam?

BAD MOVE, LIST.

Looks like a lot of fun but I bet my kids can't read well enough to play it - yet!

It is actually a fantastic late night / too drunk game to play with fellow adults as well. I love the hell out of this game.

Congratulations on the win, TheHarpoMarxist!

I'm feeling vindicated in my observation that my previous win was pure luck, since I came in at the bottom of the heap this time. It's always nice to be right.

You've clearly never owned a Windows Phone. You may get things last, but at least you get them.

My opening two intrigue cards were unfairly good. When I first played the game, I thought of it as a mostly skill over luck type of game (like Chess), but I think it actually involves a healthy amount of both (like backgammon). The metaphoric dice were definitely rolling well for me throughout the match.

I wish I could play this game, but I have no real friends and thus nobody to play it with.

I've never played the tabletop game, but I'm loving this on iOS. Looking forward to the rematch.

Battleheart Legacy comes out next week. From the makers of Battleheart (guess they are not great at thinking up names.) Looks interesting and Diablo like enough that I will watch it.

Looks pretty neat. I liked the first game but it did get very grindy. I'll likely pick it up if it isn't too pricey.

The Skullport module from the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion for Lords of Waterdeep is coming soon! It's much much better than the Undermountain module, like insta-buy if you enjoy Waterdeep.

Woohoo! I actually enjoyed Undermountain, if only for the extra quests and buildings rather than for the added spaces on the board.

I'll have to check some of those out when the little dude gets older. I just picked up a closeout 2012 iPad 4 for 50% off, and also picked this up on closeout as well:

It's actually pretty fun, and the shapes come with 3 games for varying ages. Right now our guy doesn't recognize shapes yet, so I feed him the correct block, but it's great for him to work on his fine motor skills. He already understands to put the block on the screen to play the game.

My 4 year old niece loved it as well when we were visiting the in-laws this weekend. A couple of the more creative centered games even allows you to take snapshots to save, and record audio so the kids can make up a story about the picture they make.

'Battleheart Legacy' Appears in NZ, US Release Tonight Likely

At least Touch Arcade thinks so.

A first play type video

Battleheart Legacy looks interesting. The first one got a bit grindy after a while. This looks like it may have more variety.

I picked up Battle Heart Legacy. My impressions after 1-2 minutes of play is - it is incredible, best game ever. I think I am actually a better person because I have played it....

Or.. it looks good and plays good so far. It will be interesting to see different classes, weapons, etc.

Coming tonight Dragon Quest VIII. $20. I know it is a great game but I have played it on the PS2 so I am not sure I will bite for $20. I am also nut sure if I am sold on the portrait view.

Some Japanese game play but I think the speaker is Russian?

I will ditto that I got Battleheart Legacy and early impressions (I played for an hour or so, but plan to restart due to some suboptimal stat distribution choices) are that it's pretty great.

On their Twitch channel Touch Arcade played both Battleheart: Legacy and Dragon Quest 8.

Skullport expansion is now available for the Lords of Waterdeep app.

I caved.

For those of you that have had the opportunity to play Battleheart Legacy, how short play sessions are feasible? With the children at home play time is often cut short unexpectedly, so needing longer sessions might push a purchase forward until I have longer chunks of time available.

It seems to sleep/resume fine on my phone, Krilleril. I've never tried it, but I imagine if you just task switch or lock screen in the middle of a fight you can just pick up where you left off?
