Looks very dark.

It is: had to turn the brightness up on my iPhone just to see what's going on. The developer is Rocketcat, which also did Mage Gauntlet a few years back. The art style and gameplay are very similar, but the whole thing has that trendy 'rogue like' gameplay infused into it.

If you are not familiar with my game: www.card-dungeon.com

Send me a PM with your email and I'll send out test flight invitation to you!

Looks awesome! PM incoming.

Anyone have a favorite iOS chess app? I am torn between tChess Pro, Shredder and Hiarcs. I'm leaning towards tChess because it is a universal binary. But, I like the fact that Shredder has puzzles built in.

I have heard good things about Shredder but I haven't bought it yet.

I have 3:

Chess Pro

Shredder Chess

Stockfish

Stockfish I use when I just want a quick game. It's free, the Chess Engine is good, no real setup. Shredder Chess has puzzles, a decent AI. Chess Pro has an interesting trainer and AI, as well as a seriously large collection of Classic games you can watch.

Of the 3, I tend to use Chess Pro and Stockfish the most.

I'll throw in for tChess Pro. Great Game Center multiplayer, easy game export. UI as simple as possible but no simpler.

That said, an iPad chess app with a good library of puzzles would be awesome to have.

I just got a notice it was available for download so if you are in it seems like you can download it now.

Any impressions would be appreciated. I found Mage Gauntlet a bit boring and deleted it after a couple hours but I do like my rogue likes. I fear that touch screen controls could be quite frustrating since this is an action / real time one.

We just uploaded a new version this afternoon. It'll be interesting to see how, and even if, it runs on older hardware. We only have the new Air and iPhone 5 to test on.

New iOS 7.1 is out. Blame any bugs on that.

Have an iPhone 4S. Willing to test is if you need more people to test it.

Some more impressions after a few hours of play:

It's hard (at least for me): the combat is real time (like Mage Gauntlet), and the controls are meh (like every other iOS action game). The only roguelike things right now seem to be a) starting over the dungeon after each death, and b) randomized dungeon layouts. There are three classes to pick from at the start (and three unlocked by proceeding through the dungeon). You earn gold which is kept between runs, and use it to upgrade each class (these upgrades are also permanent). There are stations in the dungeon to upgrade your equipment, but these are NOT persisted between runs.

Oh, and it's still really dark.

Honestly, it's a bit boring like Mage Gauntlet was. There's not very much variety in layouts, graphics, or enemies. There's really not looting of any kind.

OK great, thanks for the impressions. I find that these mobile gaming review sites tend to inflate scores because they are happy to see anything close to console quality.

I could run it on an iPad 2 with iOS 7.0 if you need more guinea pigs also.

Card Dungeon looks awesome! Make sure you tell us when it launches!

Of course, and thank you!

I have both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 if you need an extra guinea pig. Looks fun and I have some spare time these days.

Between the Idle Thumbs gang killing me with their talk of Hitman Go and FTL releasing on iOS it's become very tempting to get an iOS device. I look at my WiiU, sitting in a bag and think that I would actually play FTL and Hitman Go. I like Android, but it sucks being last to get things for no discernible reason.

FTL on iOS is pure bliss, DSGamer. Basically all I've been playing since it was released earlier this month. Without a doubt, I can credit it for helping me cling to the last shreds of sanity as I ensure the sleep deprivation that comes with a new baby.

It's not inexplicable. People keep doing studies on the subject. Basically, while there are more Android devices out there, developers are making more money on iOS devices. The gap is closing, but it's not there yet.

Many nights I played Dragon Age while holding my sleeping daughter. Good times, though exhausting.

Hah! That just means you didn't play enough Dragon Age before. In my own case, once my left arm got used to holding the kid, kid sleepy time was basically me playing vidja games. All night! Hehehe.

My solution is to have an Android phone and small tablet, plus a full sized iPad. The iPad functions essentially as a laptop-lite since the only productivity tasks I need on it are reference textbooks and word processing. Both can be done on an iPad. The small tablet is for social messaging (Viber, Hangouts, Tango, LINE, and FB Messenger), reading the news, and reading books and comics. To-do lists and calendar also live on the small tablet. The phone is for text messages, phone calls, calculator and conversion apps, and camera.

My phone's essential functions as a referral link to my 100% referral business means that it cannot die and I cannot be without it. I've offloaded all functions that I can to preserve battery life. The S5's ultra-energy-saving mode interests me a great deal.

I carry them all in this:

plus wallet and writing stuff (pen, pencil, lead).

All that said, I do not own a Kindle. I used to have one, but I gave it away because it was one device too many, and I'm don't suffer from eyestrain from looking at LCD screens. My Nexus 7 functions as an e-reader stand-in.

There wasn't any to play before, though.

True. Lots of games now, though. Any Dragon-esquey type game on iOS? Right now, I'm still busy with Hearthstone, but the rank chase is getting old. I'm just not a ranks kinda guy. Next up, I'll either get Yomi or XCOM, but a fantasy tactical TBS is something I'd consider getting afterwards.

Given our previous discussion about Marvel Puzzle Quest in the old iPad thread, (now locked), do we have enough people playing it to set up a GWJ alliance?

EDIT:
Ha ha ha ha ha.... 2,500 crystals for making an alliance? Yeah, the IAPs are just starting to piss me off a little too much.

There is one called GWJ. But I think it's capped at seven members.

FarmVille 2 for iOS just came out. Now I'm not a zynga fan. But my wife and a friend begged me to play. The timers are the only resource gate now and the Facebook spamming can be limited to not using the mailbox to ask for items. There is an in game co-op for 50 members who can share /buy / sell each other's items as well as in game chat.

All in all, it's not bad and has grabbed my attention the last few days. Anyone interested I made a Gamers with Jobs co-op and anyone is more than welcome.

Just finished Monument Valley. It was incredible. Knowing the developers are making more makes me happy.

How are the controls? Does it want one of those new iOS7 physical controllers?

you're pointing, tapping and swiping, not any virtual dpad situation (which is what I imagine would benefit from a controller).
