Actually I'm very thankful it isn't exactly what I thought it was...

And yes, it is very tasteless. Will probably sell well. :(

But isn't this what a tie is anyway? A decorative phallus that we hang from our necks with no utility whatsoever?

Nuh-uh! Mine has purple stripes on it today!

Less penises. More "are you bad enough to save the president?" callbacks.

Best thing about that KS.

There's an interesting idea in there, but for me I don't like the pixel art. Turn based brawler. Never thought of doing that.

Re: Dick Tie - why do I have a feeling that this started with a poor game of Cards Against Humanity?

Also, can't remember if I had posted it here yet or not, but Pixel Noir. Multi-platform, cloud-save-enabled 16-bit-inspired RPG ala SNES Shadowrun.

You should talk to a doctor about that

It covers the buttons on your shirt. It can also add colour to your outfit. That's about it.

It's actually a relatively important component of the visual eye-bending that a suit is designed to create. The whole idea of the suit as an outfit is to (A) give the wearer a classic masculine "V" shape and (B) draw the viewer's attention to the wearer's face. Not wearing a tie doesn't break the V that much, but it does greatly decrease the "draw to the face" effect. (And yes, it covers the buttons.) Ever wondered why someone can look much better in a well-tailored suit?

Of course, the other side of this coin is that wearing a tie with just a shirt and no jacket looks very silly. Don't do that.

In other KS news, I am really excited about this one. I used to be able to wear off-the-rack jeans…these days, I have to buy them six inches too big in the waist to get them around my thighs, which is absurd. Wider-thighed jeans also have enormous waists, typically.

But no more! Imagine: clothing actually made for athletic people! What a concept!

Here's hoping they don't suck.

Ooo, nice find! Definitely going to check that one out.

It isn't what I thought it would be. I was thinking a tie... for your dick.

And now I want a tie for my dick.

Just be careful about what kind of tie clip you use for your dick tie, and where you opt to clip it. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

Guess I've reached my jaded point in re Kickstarters as a lot of these KS campaigns annoy me instead of inspire. Here they're claiming that nothing new has happened in RPGs since the late 90's. So, they make a retro rpg with what looks to be an ATB system in a noir setting.

Yes, a noir setting isn't used very often and I appreciate that, but the rest doesn't make me think they're on to anything wildly special here. Their innovations are listed as this: streamlined graphical interface, motion comic cutscenes, unlockable achievements, and cross-save functionality, allowing you to save and play the game across multiple devices.

If they can make the story and detective aspects nonlinear and interesting then this could be an excellent game. That would make for a new and innovative rpg. But a SNES/Genesis RPG with achievements and cross-saves has been done a million times before.

Oh, and they never even mention Shadowrun. Not once.

Couldn't you just tuck one into a c*ck ring?

Sorry for the Shadowrun bit, that's probably my personal editorializing. The demo they had playable at PAX East reminded me of it.

They also have updates slated to talk about the combat system and other features, but the most recent update talks about their desire for a cloud save system. I'll agree that it's not necessarily revolutionary, but they're looking to do cross-platform multi-device cloud saves - play on your Vita, pick up where you left off on your PC, iPhone, or wherever else.

How come ever developer interview is shot in the exact same damn way, too?

This is no dick tie, but looks potentially interesting: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...

Wow they exceeded their goal quickly. But the concept is completely lost on me since I don't wear jeans (shorts or slacks ftw). How are these really better than going to some designer jean store, whatever those are?

Yeah, I know you mentioned Shadowrun, but the lack of any mention of Shadowrun on their part is just baffling. They must be playing up the "We're the Only One" bit or something.

I read everything they've posted so far and there's some interesting updates coming forth, but their main pitch didn't amaze me in the way they seem to think it should've.

I'll stop beating a dead horse, but saying that RPGs haven't evolved and then pitching me your retro RPG is somewhat poor marketing.

The thigh measurement is probably 5" wider for the same size waist as designer jeans. They're specifically made for people with large glutes/quads. No designer jean is cut that way; most assume you have chicken legs.

How about jeans that don't assume a fat man with a big waistline is also 5'10"? I need jeans that stop at the angle rather than going past my feet.

I have no idea who that guy is but I like the sound of his game.

Neither do I, I just yanked it from the kickstarter page

Hey everyone,

Several months ago I inherited an indie dev team. We've been working on a game idea that I had been speccing out for quite a while. I've talked about it a lot in IRC but I'll relay some of that info here. It's an adventure game based around the idea that the main character only speaks one language (English) while all of the NPCs speak a different language (Japanese). It's set in Edo period Japan and we're emulating the ukiyo-e art style.

Over the past month I've been working hard on a Kickstarter campaign for The Floating World. There's a tonne of information, video, and explanations of game mechanics.

And here it is!

The Floating World Kickstarter

I'm pretty bloody thrilled about this. Nervous as hell too. Creating The Floating World is a dream of mine and to have its existence rely upon others' support is nerve wracking.

We're going for something very different than most video games. It's a difficult concept to explain. There are all sorts of reasons for this to make me nervous.

I hope you all enjoy what we're trying to create.

Wow, it's really beautiful.

I'm in! Just pledged!

SOLD!!! You're touching on several things I love, namely ukiyo-e art and the "lost in translation" feeling (hits close to home). Hope you reach your goal.

You need to ask our benevolent overlords to mention it on the conference call.
Edit: And you should probably mention it in this thread too.

I'd love to have them to do that. Would be honoured. I'd post in the other thread but Clock already got it covered. She's a great friend.

Strike this phrase! You do a great job explaining it, and it is a super interesting, unique concept.

No matter how many times I explain it, I keep feeling like I'm doing a terrible job. It's good motivation for me to tell the team "Guys! We need more gameplay footage! I'm terrible at this!".

I totally understand that feeling - but in the for what it is worth department, I think you're doing great :).

(This is the best debate I've ever had on the internet. "I'm not good at this" "NO, YOU ARE" "I'M NOT!" "YOU ARE!")

In all seriousness, it looks beautiful and the concept is totally compelling. Looking forward to this game immensely!
