WoW: Coming soon - 16 hour maintenance

I am on an Lynksys wireless router actually. Guess I could install it on the PC that while wimpier has a wire connection to the router to see if that works.

Very interesting indeed.

Please try the direct connect and see what happens. My other theory, WoW and EQ2 are having an epic struggle on your hard drive. It is a blood bath in there, casualties galore!!

I play on BronzeBeard and was having all kinds of trouble last night. It took me several attempts before I could successfully log in, there was spots of lag throughout and eventually I got disconned and was unable to reconnect after several more tries. My girlfriend stayed connected, but still had the initial trouble trying to connect. I checked my connection to Blackhand (on which I have a low-level NE) and Garona (sic) and they seemed fine at the time. I really hope they solve all this stuff on Thursday.

I had a Blackhand Queue on Sunday night- about 50+ people, so it wasn''t too bad. OTOH I *have* been killed by lag spikes at least 3 time- the latest was Sunday night- WoW froze up and I got kicked off (dying).

I''m not having too many problems, though I have found it weird to *know* I am experiencing moderate to severe lag, and check the status and is says the lag is 90- 120 ms. Yeah, right.....

I have the same problem as maladen, and am also on a linksys router, but I have to mirror what he said:
I have had NO problems with COH or EQ2. And I am not the only one experiencing the lag spikes. everyone in my group died to one a few nights back.

People with Linksys routers have been reported to experience problems with WoW on their tech forum and the apparent fix is to change the MTU to 1492 or something like that.

Also try changing your WAN-LAN connection speed to 10mbps half-duplex or whatever is the lowest.

I experienced this too and it is very obvious that the problem is on Blizzard''s end.
My guess the servers are so stomped that they process things at slower framerate due to CPU load, while the actual module that manages the connection is not suffering from bandwidth or latency problems.

Lets hope it fixes the lag spikes

Spikes? Last night I had to resummon my imp 5 times in Dun Morogh due to lag, which caused him to be so far away or not realize where I was until it was too late and he unsummoned.

The times he actually was with me, combat was so bad, 2 second spells were taking 5+ seconds to cast, looting was painful, and god forbid I should get an add.

After the 5th lost imp, I just logged in as my paladin and went mining/exploring in Stonetalon, but it''s really ridiculous that this huge chunk of the game(levels 1-20ish) for an entire race(2 actually) is relatively unplayable(since Loch Modan isn''t much better than DM much of the time I''m on). So, it''s either go back to Elwynn/Westfall(ugh! so tired of westfall!) or take a boat to Elfland(Auberdine), leaving any and all friends behind, as well as most hope for ""good"" groups and/or instance runs.

So I end up playing my paladin, who can easily solo and safely explore quite a bit more land than my alts. Don''t get me wrong, I love my paladin, but sometimes I''d rather play an alt and not be forced into either soloing OR Westfall.

The lag blows, thank god they''ve decided to take drastic measures, and I can only hope they get it right the first time. I also wish it was just spikes where I am.

In your case Ducki, lag is the universe''s way of telling you to stop contributing to the alliance/horde population imbalance

Can''t say I''ve had any real lag at all with my Hunter or Shaman. Weird.

I had some pretty severe frame drops (lag?) in Stormwind last night but even though my connection hovered around double latency yesterday (220ms) I didn''t have any real problems.

Well my MTU was at 1492 so I increased it to 1500 for kicks. I also told my router to use 54. Had a couple real big spikes in my 2 hours of playing so not sure if it helped or not.

I get the lag spikes too, though not often (primary server is Durotan)

My biggest beef is client lockups. I''ll go hours without one, and then get one almost immediately after logging in. It''s annoying. The music continues, but my game screen is totally frozen. I can see traffic on the switch between my machine and the BSD firewall, so I know it''s still trying to communicate. Unfortunately, I''ve discovered the only thing I can do at that point is reboot. I hate it when I''m in a fight when that happens. Since I''m a mage, i''m guaranteed to be dead when I log back in

I didn''t see Blackhand listed on the 16 hour maintenance list. My alt server Shadowsong (a very low pop server) is though. Weird.

Yep, Blackhand isn''t listed on the extended downtime guys. What''s up?!?

I guess it means only one thing, all the people who want to play during the downtime will come to Blackhand to make an alt!! It should be a smashing success.

I just hope they fix the terrible lag in IF when doing the AH thing...

I used to get those until I completely cleaned out cosmos and the 3 directories (interface, WTF, WDB) and start over.

That''s just great, there will probably 200,000 lvl 10''s running around fighting over the same quests. Yeah that will be enjoyable.

I''d do that, except I never installed any 3rd party UI addons.

[edit] but I see cache files in the WDB folder, and some other crap in WTF. Guess I''ll try that.

that ok...its completely safe to fully delete the interface, wdb and wtf folder..

you will have to reset your key bindings and other options but it helped clear out my freezing problem.

Try not to hit your head when you fall down dead from shock: Nearly 2 hours past the apparently mythical 4 hour maintenance window for Blackhand, and no realms are up.

according to regular maintenance schedule servers should be up at 1pm EST.

Like every tuesday.

The servers on the list are going down for 16 hours... Blizzard has posted a message that those effected are getting a free day on their account.

So according to my clock the servers arent late.....

yet.

I wonder why they do not adopt the model SOE is using for EQ2 these days.

Each day at 7am CST they take the servers down for 1 hour and they stick to that 1 hour. You may get a small patch when the servers come back up but they just do it for maintenance mainly.

I think reliable small blocks of downtime is a much better way to go.

Of course I am at work so not being up on time does not bother me personally.

They said that maintenance would start at 6:00 AM CST (which it did - couldn''t log on at all at 6:30 or so this morning), and that it would last for 4 hours (which it hasn''t - it''s about to hit 6 hours). You''re right that normally they would be theoretically up at 1, but they moved the maintenance window back waaaaay earlier this morning. They''re supposed to be up - they just ain''t.

Blackhand is in fact late. No biggie though, I am at work. I was logged in when it went down at 7am EST.

They are now...

This was posted on worldofwar.net in yesterday''s news:

Maintenance Window Changes onemadogre 11:14:PST

Blizzard has stepped back a bit from the 16 hour outage window. The new plan is as follows. Only these 28 of the total 88 realms will have the 16 hour outage window on Thursday, the other 60 realms will have just the regular four hour outage window. The affected servers are listed as follows in alphabetical order.

Blackhand, Bonechewer, Cenarion Circle, Cenarius, Deathwing, Destromath, Dethecus, Doomhammer, Dragonmaw, Frostwolf, Gorgonnash, Hyjal, Icecrown, Kel''Thuzad, Kil''Jaeden, Kilrogg, Lightbringer, Nathrezim, Ner''zhul, Proudmoore, Shadowsong, Silver Hand, Silvermoon, Spinebreaker, Terenas, Tichondrius, Uther, Windrunner

Now remember that even if your server is not on this list for extended downtime, you could be looking at the population of those 28 servers trying to get new alternate characters into the remaining 60. As always, you can use our Realm Status page to see if you are affected by any outages at the current time.

Which is odd, because it lists blackhand as being one of the 28 servers enjoying the extended downtime. Wonder where they got that list from.

That contradicts the list Blizzard has been showing us for days. I think worldofwar.net is wrong.

Don''t know but it wasn''t on the list of the affected servers on the game boot screen or the official forums.

Blackhand''s up now - hurrah!

Not bad, only 2 hours and 7 minutes late. Go Blizz! (disclaimer:this is NOT sarcasm)

Ahh didnt realize they moved the window back for all servers.. I just thought it was for the servers getting the extended maintenance.

So yes you were correct Blizzard was late getting the servers up.

I suggest a class action law suit
