LEGO Nostalgia

Well, I thought it was funny. Might not be quite as funny to others.

Anyways, I got the train up and running. It worked really well to combine two Constitution sets. I made a boxcar with the battery and transmitter housed inside. It's a little tall, but it works. Still waiting on the controller to ship, but you can manually start and stop the train without it. The motor is powerful and the rechargeable battery is amazing! In the video, it's pretty much going at the slowest speed and can actually go much faster.

The Lego Movie was awesome*, everyone reading this thread should go see it.

*Everything is awesome!

I won't say much, but when the big reveal happened toward the end of the movie, my wife turned to me and laughed.

These Star Wars Microfighters are pretty cute, and that price is VERY impulse worthy...

Spoiler:

Look at that, they go on special this Thursday for $12 each, ever better!?!?

The micro fighters are pretty good sets. For such few pieces they are quite well detailed.

I have been just barely resisting picking up some of those modular buildings. They're so cool. So very cool. They even have tiny details on the inside.

I love all the mini kits and whatnot, but is there a source online where I can just buy a crap-ton of bricks?

You can buy bricks in bulk from the LEGO store.

Those microfighters look expensive. $15 is a lot for something I see at Toys R us for $6-9. They are really cute to be honest.

Yeah I've purchased bricks in bulk from a brick-and-mortar LEGO store but it felt like I was paying a lot for the small number of bricks I actually got. Plus, being in NYC, the only b/m LEGO store was in Rockefeller Center, which is very touristy, increasing my suspicion that the price was inflated.

I contacted LEGO and they said your best bet was to talk to a LEGO store manager and maybe make a deal with them to buy in bulk at a cheaper rate (basically, they would order extra for you). Otherwise, you could join or start a LUG (LEGO User Group) and LEGO will sell to you directly, BUT there are VERY SPECIFIC RULES you must follow in order to start your own LUG (and you can only purchase 2x a year).

You can also check eBay for people selling bulk used bricks. Pros: it's eBay! Cons: it's eBay.

There is a sure that sells individual blocks. I'll try to find the site but I'm out of town fir business!

So Australia gets shafted on game prices and now LEGO?

Crap - just bought the 4 Episode 4 - Episode 6 micro fighters, and then "had" to add more to the cart to get to free shipping...

These are both great, thanks!

I think I need to make myself a new shirt:

The wife got this guy for my birthday!

So I was in the Lego store the other day chatting with the salespeople. They mentioned that there was a new Star Wars model coming out. One of those large scale display models, like the X-Wing, B-Wing, Super Star Destroyer and R2-D2. This year, the May the Fourth model is a Sand Crawler. Over 3000 pieces from what I was told. May have to go in that day to get it.

That's not skimming, I remember seeing it the first time around now.

Totes jelly! All I managed this weekend was my 'minifalcon'...

All done! This was a fun one. Biggest set I've built in awhile.

I went a little nuts taking photos during the build, full set here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jmastr...

Looks nice!

I'm still hoping they'll reissue the big falcon someday.

Rumors are the 2nd UCS set this year might be a Falcon.

Holy cow! Check out this flickr stream of lego creations!

Yeah I made some that are twice as good as those but I ran out of film so couldn't take any pictures. Then a dog knocked over my legos and ate them so I couldn't rebuild them. Yep, I am a master builder and totally awesome.

So apparently this is happening.
