Self indulgent parent thread

Congrats mrtomaytohead!

On the question of the young one in the same room as the older sibling, we've always had our kids in the same room as we have a small house. However, in our case, our kids are both magnificent sleepers and the youngest was sleeping pretty much through the night after a month. The more I hear from other parents, the more I am thankful to have had two awesome sleepers as kids. Please don't hate me!

Any thoughts on sleeping a 2.5 year old with a 2.5 month old in the same room? We are doing our first attempt tonight and I am still up...

At 2.5 months we did the "fall asleep by yourself" nights (2 of them - helps if you've done it before) but with the crib in our room. After that, they *were* both in the same room. And they really liked it, for the most part. As much as our oldest would complain sometimes, when we moved to a new place which had a bedroom for each of them, it was my daughter (the older one) who had a hard time sleeping at first with her brother in another room.

If I'm remembering correctly (my son turned 5 yesterday), we tried to involve my daughter in what we could so she wouldn't feel excluded. So she started holding his bottle sometimes once he had a bottle. Or "helped" put him to bed. I think making her part of things helped her feel like she had some control, and was not just stuck with whatever the baby needed. Also helped that we bought the "big girl" bed she picked out herself a few months before my son was born, so it wasn't like, "Okay kid, you gotta find a new bed. We need the crib for the real baby..." Emphasizing how she gets to do cool things the baby could not do, and that she was big enough to help (no matter how not so true) worked.

Congrats, Tomayto! I hope Mama and Eli are doing well!

hooray!

Echoing the congratulations! It's been a babyful time here in the forums.

Thanks everyone! Just came home to grab a couple thing and run back to the hospital. Thankfully the hospital is only 7 mins away.

Grats to the tiny-headed tomayto!

WAA! I wanna go back!!!

Says my oldest (7): "I couldn't have asked for a better daddy. You're the daddy I always wanted.
...
Actually, I didn't know what kind of daddy I wanted, but I really like you."

I took my oldest out to Morton's while he's home for Spring Break.

I miss him and am glad he's home for a bit.

Awww, sappy tboon.

This is the part of parenting I am not looking forward to at all. I miss my little girls when they're only at school >6 hours a day.

Nice pic, tboon!

Two pics of my older kid.

My daughter is turning two on Tuesday and I cannot decide if I am more excited for her birthday or for her reaction to the play kitchen I made. I posted it over in the created thread.

Your daughter has such pretty hair, Larry!

Seconded. I was just about to comment.

Here's a recent one of my son.

Eleima 3.0 was born on Saturday (it's early Sunday here), at 8:40pm. A lot earlier than expected (36 weeks!), but he nonetheless weighs 3kg, measures 48cm and has been latching on very well. I'm doing okay, even though recovery from a section *sucks*.
Pictures as soon as I can manage.

Getting ready for the St. Patrick's Day parade. We needed a side trip into the pub to warm up.

They were doing a booming business for 11:30am Saturday morning. (We opted for hot chocolate.)

Congrats, Eleima! I'm glad Fudgy's doing well. Take it easy, and make Mr. E wait on you hand and foot!

Congratulations, Eleima! Delighted the boy is doing well, and keeping fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for you!

Congratulations, Eleima! Glad to hear the section went well. Don't scrimp on the pain meds. No pain, no pain; that's the right motto. Nalbuphine on spinal morphine in the first week can do wonders to ease your comfort levels.

It's ridiculous how giddy your compliments to my daughter make me feel. Thanks! I'll make sure she gets the message.

Congrats Eleima! I'm glad to hear you're both doing well despite less-than-ideal initial circumstances
Now, you have my sympathies while you all get your new sleep schedule sorted out

I'm behind the times. Congrats to Tomayto and Eleima, and compliments to all the cute kids.

Congratulations, Eleima! Can't wait to see the pictures!

And Katy - love your sweet daughter. I am looking forward to when my daughter's that age.

Did I miss congratulating MrTomaytohead? Happy news!

Eleima, congratulations, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Larry, that second picture, the lighting is just beautiful, gorgeous image of a gorgeous child. Great smile concentric, Katy, for a moment there, I thought your daughter had a hold of the remnants of a Guinness!?!?

CONGRATS E!

E got a C!

The C gave her a baby.

The baby weighs in at 3 K G!

E is happy, with baby Fudgie!

So many great things that rhyme with E! Well, except for the C, but it helped get him here, so YIPEEE!

Congratulations! As for the recovery...so hard watching my wife the day of and after, just trying to make it once around the maternity ward...

as we say in Greek, "Courage!"

The other thing we say doesn't really translate, so let me just say I'm glad to hear you're both doing well.

Congrats!!

Thanks everyone! It's been almost thirty-six hours and yeah, it's what I was afraid of, the recovery really, really sucks. I'll take a VB over a section every time, having now done both. I know it wasn't his fault or mine, he was just too tied in there for it to be any other way.
Definitely not skimping on the pain meds, although paracetamol and ibuprofen seem to suffice. Except when BF'ing, ugh, that hurts, but I know it also means it's working and helping get back to normal. Don't think I'm at the morphone stage though, it's pretty manageable as long as I'm taking those two and not skipping any doses.
Loved the poem, m0nk3yboy, rhymes or no!
Thanks for all the well-wishing, gang! Looking to see if I can upload some pics this morning, will update ASAP.

And this was yesterday: IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/g2yvQAP.jpg)
Sorry, the pic is kinda too big, will resize it when I get home, not sure how on the phone.

I'm not going to be one of 'those' people, and I admire your commitment to the booze, but should you be drinking and breast feeding

No rush on the pics, healing takes priority.

Spoiler:

also, Victoria Bitter is an effing horrible beer!
