The Walking Dead (from Telltale Games) - Catch All

Here is my runthrough:

Spoiler:

Saved Christa (pretty sure almost everyone picks this. 89.9 % according to TT)
Killed the dog
Accepted Nick's apology (didn't want to, but that seemed out of character and figured there was a good reason)
Gave water to dying man (again, just seemed like a Clem-kind of thing to do)
I chose to save Nick, and it's really the first decision in these games I instantly regretted. Fortunately I am also playing on Steam so I'll go with different choices there.

Now we just have to wait 9 months for episode 2...

OK, technical question: Anybody having issues with this on Win 8.1? First, the game wouldn't load at all. Now after looking around, I found a comment about putting the dinput8.dll file from /system32 into the install folder. That did get the game to load...as long as there is no controller attached. But if I have the controller on (wireless), the game just never loads again.

I don't use WASD, so I really don't want to play M&K. I still have my old Win 7 install in dual boot, but it seems silly to have to do that.

EDIT: Seems there's a few people posting about it not working in the Steam forum.

Just finished, maybe its too fresh and too raw for impartiality but right now im gonna go ahead and say I didn't like it but from the looks of this thread I seem to be the only one. Before i get into the spoilers i think one of my big problems with season 2 is that Telltale seem to be focusing more on the action - faster more elaborate QTE, a LOT more QTE's, more violence - when it was the quiet, emotional decisions you are forced to make that made me fall in love with the first game. Where season 1 was like 90% story and 10% game this one feels like its pretty much 50/50.

I would agree that it was a little disappointing. Amazing start - loved the first section. But after that I thought it lacked direction, and the dialog wasn't as believable, or as interesting (gameplay choices). It didn't seem like there were nearly as many meaningful dialog options where you felt every option was going to have some bad consequence, like when Lee would have to decide how much to disclose about his past. It was more like Mass Effect dialog, with a Paragon Clementine answer or a Renegade Clementine answer (duh, of course you are going to accept an apology). I really felt you could tell it was not written by the same people as season 1.

Ep 1 Choices:

Spoiler:

* Saved Christa
* Killed the dog
* Gave water to the dying man
* Accepted Nick's apology
* Chose to save Nick

The reason I saved Nick was because I assumed Pete had been bitten already around his ankle. Was I not paying attention and imagining it or was it supposed to be an animal bite or something?

Rest of the choices seem like no brainers really.

I'm not sure I want to play this game anymore. It's not that it's bad, it's that it's too effective. I don't need my day ruined over and over again by watching the world doing horrible things to a ten-year-old girl.

Spoiler:

When the dog showed up, I was all, "Oh man, they're going to kill this dog. I hate that. He's such a nice dog, too. Look, he's catching a frisbee. Look, he's begging. Look he's eating out of my---AAAAH!! AAAHH!, WTF!!! AAAAHHH!!!

Is there a good option for someone who played the whole first season on 360, but wants to switch over to PC?

I was gifted both TWD and 400 Days and I would like to play 400 Days without having to play through the whole first season again... but I want my decisions.

This is the best thing I can find. Not sure how good it will be though.

Finished the 1st episode of the 2nd season, thoughts and spoilers below:

Spoiler:

Bloody hell, did they have to kill off Omid straight away? It gets you into the story straight away, but it's a pretty cheap way of manipulating emotions. And there's no way to pick the gun up anyway, so it's a very blah way of forcing a character to die. A lot of the times people died in the 1st season, it was due to something that happened in the action sections (Duck getting bitten, some characters getting overcome by zombies), so you'd think that there might be a way to save them. This is just like "Oh, we are not going to let you hold onto your gun, and that is going to get someone killed." It was very arbitrary.

The dog stuff was rough. I was hoping that Clem would get a dog friend for the season, that would be kind of cool, but yeah, that knife was twisted pretty fast too.

Seeing Clem sew herself up was both heart wrenching and a crowning moment of awesome for her. It was about then were I thought, this character could realistically be played like a serious badass. Getting the dog off her was pretty bad ass too.

Went with Pete (had to check names there, because the character's came so thick and fast it was hard to get into them) because I wanted to make sure he had a chance to talk to Nick before he died.

It was a pretty good chapter, very fast, and I'm looking forward to later chapters. It is pretty noticeable that different people are at the helm though. Instead of how much back story to tell other people, your options with discussion are mostly on how hard nosed you want Clem to appear, like other people are saying, it's very "Paragon\renegade\silence", and not "grey\lighter grey\darker grey\silence".

Just finished Episode 1 of the second season. I'll echo the thoughts of some posters above that the QTEs this time around are taking away from the experience more than they are adding to it. Hopefully they'll get the balance right in later episodes.

Spoiler:

After the suturing job I failed the fight with the zombie in the shed about five times, purely because in one section it wasn't clear what it wanted me to do (reach for the hammer, which was almost off-screen). That made me swear madly and pretty much brought me out of the experience.

By the end of the episode I'd definitely gotten used to Clementine being the player character, more so than I imagined going in, but being a child I think she'll inevitably be more passive in a lot of situations compared to Lee. I think that may be where a lot of the dissatisfaction with the choices when interacting with other characters comes from. I'll withhold judgement for now. It was definitely still tense in parts.

Spoiler:

My choices:
- Saved Christa (not clear what happened to the pregnancy, I assume it was lost)
- Killed the dog
- I accepted Nick's apology
- I withheld the water (Where's Christa - he never answered - and died almost immediately anyway)
- I went with Pete - even bitten he has a much better prospect of surviving then Nick seemed to ...

Overall I found the new survivors to be easily dislikeable (maybe I can get some of them bumped off next time!). It was a shame that Omid and Christa only lasted about 5 minutes into the episode.

Jut loaded up season 2 on PS3, where I had played season 1 (I'd played 400 days on iPad), and it tells me it can't detect any old saves.

I loaded up season 1 and it patched to current and I could see the saves there. But still no luck in season 2. Is this a known issue? Anyone have any advice? Am I boned as far as carrying over my progress?

Do you have a joystick/game pad plugged in? Unplug it.

I'm on PC, it found my Season 1 save but didn't attempt to locate my 400 days save. I hadn't actually thought about 400 days before you'd mentioned it o:

PC for me and both 400 days and season 1 saves were found on my win 7 64 machine.

Woo, S2E2 arrives next week! March 4th.

No way!!! Awesome, I wasn't expecting it to be here this early!!!

It's not here yet Still says 'Coming soon' on the telltale games site.. sad times.

EDIT: Ok, apparently, it is out, steam has updated, but when I (and many others, it seems) tries to launch the Season 2 game, even if just to play Episode 1, you can't login to your telltale account from within the game, which means you can't download episode 2, or play either episode. Way to go Telltale.

Shoulda just gone with the Steam version for the few extra monies.

That happened last time, too.

Yep, it's a pretty poor show on their part. I'm not usually too bothered about 'MUST HAVE ACCESS NOW!!!111", but it's pretty difficult to avoid spoilers if you spend time in circles of fans of the series, either online or in real life.

OH MY GOD, THEY DIDN'T KILL KENNY!?.....You...bastards?

Aw nooo! You spoilt the part where Clem accidentally summons one of the Great Old Ones.

Oh wow, here Telltale take my money, even though you already have it just take it all now. I will give you more money to have all of the game right now.

Here by spoilers

Spoiler:

Creepy house scene but then I let him reason with me that these people that locked me up maybe not be that trustworthy, he got in my head and that coloured the rest of the play through.

KENNY!!! (although now it is going to be doubleably sad when they kill him off for reals, this is Walking Dead after all)

Wow. What an episode. Great work, Telltale.

My Choices:

Sat with Luke at dinner
Told Walter the truth about Matthew
Convinced Walter to forgive Nick
Stayed in the Cabin

Great choice for the credits song, as well. In The Pines is one of my favorite old blues songs. Not the best version I've ever heard, but I still love it.

It was great to see Kenny, but it's a bit odd that he somehow managed to survive in Season 1. Oh well, it's a zombie game, after all.

I hope my save file isn't bugged, but I can't see the choices for Episode 2 in the menu. That would suck, big time. I'd probably re-play the first two episodes, but if my Season 1 save file is gone, it would seriously put a damper on my enjoyment of the game.

Just finished season 2, episode 2.

This game continues to break my heart, and move me in ways games generally have been unable to. And for that, I appreciate the experience.

Looking forward to seeing where the story goes... I acknowledge in some ways I make meaningful decisions, and in some ways, the game steers the story in a general direction, pretty much out of my control.

Kinda like life.

now moving on to the technical... the game is kinda f-in buggy.... wtf! I crashed once playing episode 2, and I recall crashing like 4 times when I went through episode 1 when it first came out (season 2). WTF TELLTALE!

This was the first episode I didn't experience any hitching whatsoever. I did have it crash once though.

Spoiler:

Blamed someone else for photo
Sat with Luke
Told the truth
Convinced him to forgive
Stayed in the cabin

Does it seem to anyone else that some of these decisions are getting harder?
Great episode by the way.

QFMFT. In fact, I just might do that later today...

Edit: And it's 33% off to boot. Ah eff it, take my money, Telltale, you've earned it.

Finished episode 2 last night.

Minor spoiler:

Spoiler:

So taking that clock in episode 1 had been weighing on me, cause I was so sure I was going to get in trouble for it. But it totally paid off! Yessssss. Stealing = good.
