Portland Area S&T - September 20th @ tuffalobuffalo's Sometime After Comicon

Pages

Hello GWJers! I was chatting w/ VeggiePirate on IRC, and it sounds like we haven't really done a get-together in the Portland area, or at least not for some time. So let's talk about ideas and dates, because it'd be a blast to get to meet up with you guys and hang out/play some games/have a couple drinks in Portland.

Current S&T rendition is September 20th at tuffalobuffalo's place (about 5 blocks from Loyd Center) from 3:00 to somewhen. There will be board games, multiplayer video games, snacks, beer and general good times. Folks might even go grab dinner.

Past S&Ts:

Spoiler:

Current ideas sound like we're leaning towards a board game night style evening at VeggiePirate and Polandra's house. Still open for suggestions.
So if you know other Oregonians in that are in the area (or like me, would be willing to travel for it) let them know about the thread and we'll figure out what we want to do.
Here's a Poll that we're currently using to try and see what dates would work for people.

We're at VeggiePirate's house on April 12th! Arrive at about 2PM.

Also, congratulations to Polandra and VeggiePirate on rolling +1 Family (for the second time)!

Subscribed. I'd totally be up for something. Other options would be meeting at some locale for beer and board games (though I don't know of a good place).

There is no guarantee that I won't freak out and succumb to my fear of people from the Internet, but I'm in.

[lurking]

If we'd rather skip the pub prices and noise, I've got a decently-large place in SW with a big table for games and such. We've got a bunch of the easier-to-pick-up table games too, but I'll have to double-check which ones since my wife keeps adding to the collection. It's just west of Hillsdale area, so still not too far for people on the east-side.

Aww just a little too far away

I'll probably be able to make it as long as the destination is bus-able or MAX-able.

It's never a party with ya, man.

Sounds good to me. I'd be willing to cross the river for something like this.

We could commandeer the vacant lot next to the rose quarter tc. It's centrally located.

I don't have any preferences as to dates or places (other than the mass transit thing), so I'll let you all figure it out. I do think that board games are a fun idea rather than just meeting up to chat. I've never actually been to a meetup around here where I've had a chance to play a board game.

Even if it's not, I'll be coming in from out of town, so I could probably give a couple people a ride for the last leg if we can find a good place to meet that's somewhat en-route

Edit: Also, big +1 to board games.

Wife here, the games we have for easy tabletop play are;
Munchkin
Fluxx (Pirate)
Dominion (and Hinterlands expansion)
Castle Panic

We've got Munchkin, Pirate Fluxx, Dominion w/ the Hinterlands expansion, and Castle Panic. They are all really easy to pick up.

Most of those are more "card" games than "board" games, but whatever.

Edit: Dammit. Tannhauser'd by my wife.

Awesome, I can contribute any of Settlers of Catan, 7 Wonders and a couple more versions of Munchkin.

I have two board games which have been sitting in my closet forever: Ticket to Ride & Libertalia.

You guys should play Mansions of Madness. I hear it is loads of fun...

I have Puerto Rico (takes a bit longer to learn than the other games), Pandemic, bananagrams, and Betrayal: House on the hill (or something like that) plus some duplicates of games already stated. If Polandra-Pirate are happy to host that would be excellent. I would be driving from the Washington Square area if people needed to carpool.

I live right by Washington Square (Irvington).

I don't get it, Irvington is North East Portland.?

I wasn't making a joke or anything. I was just saying that I live in that area.

Far as I know, Washington Square is in Tigard, and Irvington is close in East Portland, just north of 84.

Blargh! I was too sidetracked by other stuff this afternoon. I'm in Irvington which is close to Lloyd Center on the East side. Sorry.

Lol, looks like the joke wasn't on me after all

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and blame it on Veggie for saying I make everything not a party.

"without"

Haha, I really need to preview my posts.

We should be pretty open from the weekend in March (the 15th) and on, so anyone that's interested post conflicts so we can narrow down a day. Also any ideas for what kind of food and beverages? Pizza and beer are always pretty easy, but isn't always everyone's taste.

It sounds like we've got tons of options for games, so that part sounds like it's going to be a blast!

Unavailable for the weekend of April 19th, otherwise I'm all in for a little S&T.

Crashed at my buddies place just around the corner from the Avalon Theatre and thought of it as an interested spot for a gathering. Nickel arcade anyone? Also, the Bagdad is only a few blocks away on Hawthorne but it appears that they're no longer doing 2nd run movies. Bummer, takes some of the fun out of it I imagine. Neither location really lends itself to a great environment for board games and getting to know/mingle easily with folks though.

I actually do have family plans for Saturday on the 15th of March, so the weekends after that and on would be best for me. That said, I will completely work around skylarhawk's plans. I can easily rejigger that stuff. Pizza and beer sound like a good plan to me.

15th of the month is kinda the hellish time of the month where I work, so I won't be able to get off early at all that Friday (in March). Generally, I'd say April would be easier to plan for.

This - but I am interested. If we need board games, I can certainly bring a few.

I'd be down for shifting things to April, too. The end of March is a bit busier than I thought. Let's get some votes, maybe? I'm down for any weekend in April, so I'll vote for Saturday the 5th.
