Happy Hump Day Survey!

For serious answer? Umm. Maybe Mass Effect, after all the chaos dies down?

Probably because I'm reading it right now, but I could really dig time in Kirk Battle's Space Lawyer.

Funny. Most fiction I read with different worlds involves necessarily worse worlds, to provide impetus for action.

This one is tough.

Hmmmmmmm... I think it would be cool to be a Conduit in the Infamous universe. But probably the Dune universe, pre-tyrant.

I suppose it'd depend on the circumstances surrounding my visit. Am I just thrust into it as is, or do I get to pick the circumstances of my visit.

I envision that you've chosen to go there, so I'd say you have control over your circumstances within reason. So if you say The Matrix you could clarify that you don't want to spend your year trapped in the weird tech-simulated womb or something equally sucky.

I'd like to be a Firebender after the war so I don't have to be an imperialist jerk.

Star Trek, but I want to be on earth. I don't trust transporters (your life effectively ends on the sending end of the thing) so I wouldn't use them. However, the other technology means a pretty relaxed life where we could travel a lot.

My first thought was Scott Pilgrim, where video game logic and real world logic cross over wonderfully.

Otherwise, I'd have to think about it. Depends on if I'd also have to work in this universe or if it would be like a one year paid vacation.

Dammit, I tend to like a lot of bleak, horrifying worlds in my fiction, resulting in my failure to immediately conjure a place I'd actively WANT to live in....

Time to do a think on some utopias...

Even with that, I'm having a bit of a hard time. Most of the ones I find interesting are pretty dangerous, so I feel like I'd have to Mary Sue myself to not end up dead or captured. Being a mundane commoner in many of them isn't all that appealing, and having the powers/abilities that make the world interesting also tends to put a target on your head.

The Star Trek universe would be nice to be in, but unlike Lou, I'd be transporting myself everywhere. I'd also want to have a holodeck, which would allow be visit even more universes, but with built-in safety protocols. I'd probably stay away from the Federation's border worlds though, I'm not interested in being Borg-ified or caught up in a war.

Funny enough, I was struggling with the same issue initially. Took me a bit to think about a world/universe where everything wasn't completely in the sh*tter.

Not sure what that says about my tastes in entertainment.

Keep in mind, those safety protocols seemed pretty easy to break/malfunction in the series...

Just sayin

LEGO City

True. I'll just make sure my holodeck isn't on a starship or a space station, where most of those malfunctions tend to occur.

Assuming I get magic powers, I could get behind being an obscure scion of the royal family of Amber

I choose Narnia because a year is like... a hell of a lot of time in Narnia.

Is this one of those "If you need me, I'll be on the Holodeck ... bring a mop" scenarios?

A true holodeck would just dematerialize the mess or beam it over to the nearest Klingon vessel (if one is available).

FTFY

As much as I'd like to say the world from the Belgariad (as long as I'm a wizard!) or even Star Wars (as a Jedi, of course) I think I'm leaning towards Farscape.

Doctor Who also keeps cropping up. Wanna talk about how long a year is in that universe?

Ask the Zapper about his paternity cases.

Not because it's warmer there?

I'm just going to cut to the chase and call my holodeck Holodeck 4, even though it'll be the only one I have.

Narnia. I'd get to spend an entire lifetime there, come back and (presumably) still have most of the year left to do whatever I want as I reverted back to my younger self in the process of returning.

yup.

Plus, you get to meet talking animals and such.

I have a few but I can't think of anything really unique

Futurama (THE WOOOOOORLD OF TOMORROOOOOOW!)
Lord of the Rings, Rivendell
Neverland

This one is harder than I thought it'd be! I like the Scott Pilgrim idea (Toronto is real I guess, but magic/video game rules Toronto

You'd be a Peacekeeper, wouldn't you?

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind a vacation to Freeside.

Lord of the Rings, Rivendell

Still waiting for someone to say "Redwall."

I mean, it sounds delicious.

Pfft. Peacekeepers aren't that cool. I'd rather be something truly alien.

Okay, I'd probably be Scorpius. Not really.
