Wildstar: Catch All

If anyone wants a spare key I may or may not have one available. My weekend may or may not be so full that I may or may not be horribly disappointed that I may or may not be able to play.

In the event that I do have a key (which I will may or may not deny), a post in this thread may or may not get you said key.

Id be happy to take it off your hand.

Edit - bah, darn you slow surgically repaired shoulder

I'm glad everyone is enjoying it.

I do think it is a really solid MMO but I have been struggling to get past the strong Blizzard roots in a lot of the design approaches.

I thought I would love the world and aesthetic but for me, it ends up being a little too one note-ish. The same goes for the humor, I absolutely loved the early levels because of the whimsical touches but it all began to lose its appeal around level 10 or so. Same goes for combat, which fang described pretty well as GW2 like but with a tad more nuance, plus the holy trinity added back in. I do worry that while there are tons of skill options, the actual rotations tend to be a bit confined and spammy.

I remember when Rift launched, a lot of folks praised it as the best and purest WoW clone to date and I will not be surprised if WS ends up unapologetically bumping Rift from that pedestal.

Perhaps I could get over some of my concerns with the game, but ultimately, the 20/40 raid structure just kills my interest to power through to endgame. I know that is less of a concern for a lot of our members who never even reach endgame, and I'm sure a lot of you guys will have great fun with the world for a month or two, before moving onto the next shiny. I'm sure I will give it a crack if it goes F2P at some point, but to paraphrase Elaine, I just don't think it is sub worthy for me.

I may or may not be, begging in this thread, for a key that someone who may or may not be in beta, whom may or may not have a spare of.

In all honestly, I most likely will not have much time to test it out. But I do love sci-fi themed MMOs and the differences in combat and customization (every one gets their own island that they can outfit out as they see fit?) does seem fresh. While the art style does call back to WoW too much, it's alot like an old known artist you've seen many times before, brunching out and trying to do something different. Lends that feeling of familiarity yet still somewhat innovative.

How am I missing these key offers?

last time I played it was 4 patches ago, but I absolutely hated it. It was mind numbingly boring.

Heh... You aren't the only one Balthezor

@Eldon - Run the installer as admin. It took me half a day to figure that out...

This game is not WoW by any stretch. The art style is similar but everything has the sense of humor or ridiculousness that is more like Warhammer.

The combat is like GW2 but just a hair more complex. The telegraphs of all shapes and sizes can be manipulated as well as the cast times, and channeling. This makes it seem more twitch to me than GW2.

There were a few classes I thought I would like but didn't like at first because the bread and butter skill wouldn't cast on the move like every other classes skills. The esper was one of these class's and I though it was going to be my main when I got my hands on the game. The lack of movement became a sticking point but ended up working in its favor after I tried all the other classes. It is a nice break from constantly moving and I found that I no longer constantly move (because it gets tiring) with all the other classes. You only need to move to avoid the enemy telegraphs so a lot of the classes that were meh or I didn't initially like became a lot better.

One tip: don't give up on a class until you get it 4th ability. You have to buy it and there is a quest that will lead you to the ability vendor. A few classes seem less powerful or limited in their first 2 abilities. The 4th ability really helps to start to round out each class. And I don't have one higher than 7 so I am going out on a limb when I say that the classes distinguish themselves further after that. The 3rd ability is a 30 second cooldown ability that is usually some sort of cc. It probably would have been better to swap the 3rd and 4th abilities since you really don't need cc at low levels.

Of the paths, soldier is the most convenient and imho the most fun. I haven't tried explorer but scientist needs streamlining and settler involves a LOT of wandering and gathering. Soldier so far involves happening upon a spot in the wilderness that triggers 4 waves of badguys for you to kill or a named spawn to assassinate.

warrior - boring, my least favorite class, don't know if I can even get to level 4 to get the 4th ability, other classes are so much more unique
stalker - more fun than I thought, killing speed makes up for lack of range, i don't even use stealth. lacks uniqueness but not nearly as bad as warrior
engineer - the most fun out of the gate but killing speed tapers off by level 4, bot is cool but doesn't really do anything
medic - a lot of fun, first skill is one of the best with only weakness being short ranged, field snare and dot is cool
spellslinger - hated it at first, then came back to love it, 4th skill is a dot that gives the class some killing punch
esper - my highest char, was meh on the class at first, now it is probably my favorite, 4th skill is interesting to look at but of marginal use

Esper. Level 6 skill. Blade dance. Awesome. (I couldn't find the ability vendor in the next town until level 8 so I didn't know of its awesomeness until then.)

That is all.

For those planning on getting it for release, what side are you choosing?

Jury is totally out for me. Chuas supposedly have the most entertaining animations but I have yet to make one. I don't typically fall for the furry races like the Aurin but I like the feel of the smaller races in this game. The big races are too cumbersome to me and have the least and least attractive hair choices. And there is one female Aurin wild hairstyle that I am absolutely in love with. So I am leaning Exile at this point but both side's human races are worthy options.

The dominion human female has a classic Farah Fawcett hairdo that tickles my funny bone for sure.

At some point I heard that they were going to implement body sliders. So if that happens and I can shrink the mechari down to near the human size I will definitely have an alt or two of that race. The same goes for the mordesh undead race.

So in other words I am basically talking myself into a tailspin of inconclusiveness ;P

The one race I am not a fan of is the female rock people. They are just don't seem to fit with their hugeness and bouncy badonk-a-donk animations.

I'm going Exile. Probably Aurin Stalker or spellslinger.

coin toss but i'm leaning toward the Dominion just because their capital city is a lot easier to navigate.

Well, I'm sold. It's difficult for me to immediately dislike a new MMORPG anyway because everything's new, and I generally get a few months' play out of MMORPGs I go on to lose all interest in. But based on the few hours I've played this weekend it does look good. I'm definitely buying Wildstar when it's released.

I'm currently planning to go Exile, but since I haven't seen Dominion yet I may well go that way on release. Who knows? It's crazy!

I am trying to avoid the Beta (at least until open beta near release, and then just to install it more than anything).

That being said I see starting on the Exile side, but making a Chua at some point.

If I end up playing a Dominion char it'll probably be a Chua. They have the best mount. Of course all of the Dominion chars can purchase it, but Chua Ball FTW!

Exile all the way. Love the zombies and rockfolk and the dominion strikes me as a little too evil empire.

Haven't played any beta but watched all the dev videos again and pretty hyped on the game. I'll buy this just to repay all the great humor in their videos!

I picked up my medic again yesterday for a few levels and it is now my highest. It is going to be tough to choose at launch. Well, not really because the esper is the bees knees. But the medic, engineer and spellslinger are really fun. The warrior has grown into passably acceptable but is still my least favorite. And the stalker is easily as fun as the other 3 but I really enjoy the big Kablamo of the casters over Wolverine.

Side note: the engineer bots, while kinda cool looking and have personality, are really neutered at this point. The landscape of this game is expansive but dense so traveling with an army of minions isn't without issue. When you combine that with the fact that they do piddly damage because you can have 2 out, you can see why I am going to opt out of bots as soon as I get skills to replace them.

In PvE the bots for the engi from a tank perspective are rock solid and the only way to get a decent amount of dps along with protection. In PvP they're worthless. Once they die they don't respawn. Not sure if that was intentional or a bug, but had to redo my tool bar for every match.

I did spend some time as a dps medic and one of the guys we were playing with was a healer. In pvp we rarely lost when it was a 1:1 ratio or for that matter 2:1. We even did well, all things considering, higher than that, but at those levels it became about just surviving. Plus unless we were on the objective itself the fights while fun from a pride perspective kept us out of the primary fight for too long.

Stalker and Spellslinger are still my favorites.

I posted here

So far only ~4400 posts. So 1 in 4ish chance I could get a key. not bad odds. By the time they stop posts to choose randomly at 4PM it will probably be over 5000.

Its amazing that there is a huge ravenous horde of people that want to play this game. I think its great for Carbine and NCSoft. They have a veritable hit on their hands and its still in closed beta.

or, playing in beta when there is no monthly fee~

It could be interesting... I played in a weekend beta 2 weeks ago and have read/watched a bunch of content since... if you are not interested in a "frivolous" atmosphere or a very cartooney feel, this game may not be for you. It seems very solid from a gameplay and features standpoint.

This man may look like a lady, but he is not. He is a very pretty man.

Hey U.

I played last weekend and I enjoyed it. I like the cartoony animation. It's fun and lighthearted. Will I buy at launch? Still undecided.

Anyone able to grab a key from MMORPG? Not I.

I did! It looks like it's just for this weekend, but I'm psyched to get to tinker around in it for a bit.
