Super Mario 3d World catch all

Rosalina's power is being the best character and saying "that's right!"

My wife probably won't want me using her. That's my wife's power too. Wait, she says "I'm right!" Crisis averted!

Okay got through world flower. Trying to decide if I have the patience to got get everything I need to open up the final world. I'm pretty complete up through world 6, but then it gets spottier.

Might just dive into Rayman Legend instead.

A bit LttP here, but OMG THIS GAME IS AMAZING. I'm up to 4-3 or so.

Cleared the Bowser stage this morning. Loved that it was a platforming challenge, not a boss battle (though there were plenty of those along the way). I have worlds 1-4 completely finished, am only missing a couple things in 5, 6, and Bowser (which I found easier than Castle, for some reason) and still have a fair amount of clean-up to do in 7 and Castle.

World Star is…these levels are not easy. I might need to switch off of Mario and roll with Peach for a while; her floating would really come in handy on some of these stages.

Overall, this game has been a sheer joy to play. I don't know how you make something even better than the Galaxy games, but they managed to do it, somehow.

It's really weird that the last few Mario games except New Super Mario Bros. U used platforming based fights with Bowser. Especially when New Super Mario Bros. Wii started that trend.

Peach is really useful there. Demyx and were rocking the girl power for the bonus worlds.

I push + at the beginning of each level to select a random character. The random function frigging loves Peach. Except when it comes to ghost houses. It always picks Luigi for those levels.

It's thematic!

I can't complete any level on world crown. I'm actually very disappointed in myself about this. I've thrown hundreds of lives away.

Not even captain toad? The last proper world is a nightmare in the grand tradition of Mario Galaxy 2's Grandmaster Galaxy. I think Demyx and I were getting close to finishing it but we've easily thrown several hundred lives and burned a couple hours trying to crack it. Don't feel disappointed, it's an intentionally hard endurance level. You're in good company

The mystery house marathon took me 3 hours alone to get through. These are not easy levels by any means.

I can't either.

I've made it through Flower-4 ish and have totally cleared everything up to (but not quite including) world star. I think I have 106 deaths at this point? I'm pretty sure 90 of them came at the little end section of Star-1. Damn those rainbow rollers and trapeze!

Crown world: get!
Toad world: beated!
crazy 30-star endurance world: beated!
level crown-crown: ....um, started!

There's part of me that feels like it's actually easier than the final level of galaxy 2 for some reason, though I couldn't tell you why. I made it all the way to the swimmy section on one try. That's well after the 2nd star, so I assume it's relatively far in. The vertical corridors were a bit tricky with peach: her floating ability makes it more difficult to bounce off the side of the spike-top bugs. Anyway...anyone actually beaten that level yet? Because if so, I'll take any tips.

I found Grandmaster much easier than Crown-Crown, given that I actually beat Grandmaster in a reasonable amount of time and haven't beaten Crown-Crown yet despite having thrown a lot of time and lives at it.

We've made it to the part with the speed blocks and lasers.

I don't freakin' believe it.

I guess all that's left to do now is finish every stage with every character...glad I enjoy this game.

Damn, that was fast.

Impressive!

Very nice, now do the mystery house!

Did that yesterday. Was far easier, in my opinion.

Damn it, now I'm playing this again. I got my lives up to triple crowns and have messed around with beating levels with all the characters. I tried Champion's Road right off the bay and was way too rusty; I threw away something like 20 lives on the first room.

Yesssssss…let the platforming flow through you…

After I finished up Champion's Road last night, I started in on all characters. I'm almost done with world 1, but I'm debating how to do it going forward. Like, should I play through each level with each character, then move on? Play through the whole game with one character, then go back and start with the next? Some hybrid of the two? I'm debating.

Cheat! Plug in some extra controllers, assign them to other characters, on you go!

This only occurs to me because it is essentially the same thing as playing with my kids

I have been blasting through every level as quickly as I can with every character and then moving on to the next. A lot of them are pretty damned short when you aren't looking for stars, etc.

Yeah, the levels are really short if you're just burning through them. I found that playing each level again and again with different characters felt like tedious grinding, so I'll probably end up playing the whole game with each character in turn. I have World 1 finished so far.

Completing a level with a character only counts if the character touches the flagpole at the end.

Yesterday, I finally got into Rayman Legends. I'd gotten that and Mario World around Christmas, and decided to play through Mario first.

Lemme tell you, there's a transition when you go from one to the other. After all those hours playing as Peach, it took me quite a while to get used to holding ZR to run and having to hit B twice to glide in Rayman. My thumbs kept really wanting to hold Y to run and hold B to jump and glide. Felt so weird.

This is a change that I personally wish every game used. In platformers like mario, donkey kong, etc. that use a pressed or held down jump button as the input for bouncing higher off of enemies and certain environmental objects, it kills me to have the exact same action float (peach, diddy kong's rocket pack, etc.). I find it incredibly frustrating. In DKCR, on the more difficult levels, I would often purposely not take a diddy kong barrel just to not have to deal with it.

I'm totally with you. The universal action button seems like a good idea, but just gets really funky in practice.

I do kinda wish Rayman didn't require a second button press to start a glide, but I guess that gives you more room to play around with jump length in situations where you don't want to glide.

Exactly. Which, at least in Origins, was totally necessary in the treasure chest levels. Sometimes a quick tap was needed to not bash your head on spikes, other times a medium jump, and sometimes mashing your finger hard on the jump button and praying was in order.

I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm through the first main world, and working on the second. So far, it already seems like Rayman is more of a technical platformer than most of Mario is. That may be because Rayman seems to increase the difficulty within worlds, while Mario ramps it up over the course of the game. Rayman is cool as hell though. I really need to get my wife in and manning the gamepad. Some of these levels would definitely be easier with an assist.
