LEGO Nostalgia

I've discovered it's also orderable from toys r us online, so I'm going to do that. I think it's about CAD$250 so that lines up with the ebay prices. My X-Wing was $250 and R2-D2 was $230, so that's pretty much on par.

Toys r us is having a buy one get one 1/2 off on lego super heroes, star wars, and city sets up here from the 7th to the 13th. Found this out today when I wandered through. Picked up a Y-Wing and Tie Fighter in anticipation of wanting to build stuff after watching the Lego movie tonight.

Guess what I found!

Saw this train at Fred Meyer today. It ended up ringing up for $40 on clearance instead of $100. The price on the shelf was $99.99, and I was rather shocked. So, I went and bought the other one which my brother then bought off me. I figure they must have been hiding in the stock room or something and the system had clearanced them out long ago.

Now I just have to get the motors and control and some more tracks.

That's a nice looking train set, except I didn't like the Lone Ranger branding. I'm kicking myself for not buying the Emerald Night a couple years ago when it was being discontinued. Now it's $300 or more if I want to find it on eBay.

Agreed on the branding, but at $40, I can deal with it!

The Emerald Night is gorgeous, but this is the only train I like that's available. Most of the others are electric trains and I hate the overhead connection things. It just doesn't feel right without having actual wires overhead.

That's a nice find! I really liked the design of that train, but it was pretty expensive. This might be more in my current budget:

So, how is everyone displaying their built models? Do you have specific display cases, areas set aside, or are they just piling up where ever they rest?

How do you combat dust build up as well? Fine 'electrostatic' dusters, light suction vacuum cleaners, damp cloths?

It's only marginally on topic, but I saw the LEGO movie today with the kids. Unlike the other LEGO games and shorts and such, the movie is basically stop motion animation implemented in CG. So only actual pieces are used, the LEGO people only bend at the joints, etc. It's pretty darn cool just from a builder perspective even if you don't find the story terribly interesting.

I just have a bookshelf that as yet has no books, so it's got some models sitting on it. I haven't really worried about dust—if it gets really egregious, I suppose I'll just take the model apart and replace it with something else, then throw the bricks in the bin and shake it up.

When my Legos got too dirty, I would wash them in warm soapy water in the bathtub.

I used to keep them in their own room and kept the door shut. That prevented the dust from building up for a few years.

For some reason, reading that, I'm reminded of this

Disassembled and stored in zip lock bags. Besides, this way I get to have fun putting them together again later.

Since I'm starting a new job in two weeks, that will have me taking the train to the city and the desks don't have much in the way of storage, I really don't know what to do with the ones I've been displaying at work (namely the B-Wing, big R2-D2, and VW Bus).

I'll have to dig up my booklets and see if ziplock storage would be an option...

I think I may have started an addiction to fun. I bought three sets on Saturday, anticipating that I would want to build things after seeing the Lego Movie. I wasn't wrong. Ran some errands on Monday and bought 2 more sets. I assembled 4 of them yesterday and have one more to build when I get home tomorrow.

I really want to get those Star Wars micro fighter mini models that come out next week. Those smallish vehicles were the best part of the advent calendar. Also want to get that B-Wing display model, as well as the Super Destroyer and the Death Star. I didn't realize that the Death Star was basically a diorama featuring many scenes from the movie. Also, I now want the Millenium Falcon. I figure I've probably spent about $800 easily in the last few months and want to get another $1000 in sets.

Also, I bought those Series 1-3 sets that came with the planet Christmas ornaments, and gave the 9 of them as gifts to myself from Santa. I was so surprised by his generosity. He also got me 3 of the Emerald Express 3in1 sets so I could build all three.

This all started in the fall when I was buying birthday gifts for my nephew and picked up the Delorean for myself. I'm starting to go deep down the rabbit hole.

Did I also mention the architecture sets look nice and I'd like to try them too? And the Tower Bridge set. I could get the Sydney Opera House, both the large set and the architecture set, and have them side by side for contrast.

I want Benny's spaceship too.

Man, would love to find one of those Lone Ranger sets for $40 for my son, but they've cleared out lego stock at my Fred Meyer for the Lego movie sets. Which I don't really care for.

It'll be here soon.

Benny's Spaceship AND Metalbeard's Sea Cow? Noooooooooooooo!

There's two more actually.

I saw the construct-o-mech and my first thought was "I want to build that." Followed by "if they make that set it's gonna be HUGE."

Looks like they scaled it down a bit from the movie.

Wandered into the Lego store and saw this little baby:

Wasn't expecting to get it. One of those temporarily exclusive sets, only available to VIP members until the end of the month. More than I was planning on spending when I walked into the store today, but a sweet set.

Cooooool.

Let us know if the helmet for the space guy is pre-broken.

And there is a warning label in the bottom corner that states the ship does not float. In case you were thinking of setting it adrift.

I bought 2 star wars lego sets this week! And so it begins...

A clown told me we all float down below.

TAG! You're IT!

The instruction book is heavy and almost 300 pages. There are 9 modules with 18 packages. The first two modules alone are for the minifigures, mini-Metalbeard, two micromanagers and the double couch.

Benny's helmet is NOT broken, although it is molded so that the chinstrap looks like it is broken.

Edit to add:

Mini-Metalbeard vs the full size Metalbeard from the duel set. Obviously more detail in the larger one, but I really like how they made the shark in the smaller one.

The couch. I would also like to point out that Benny's head also has the classic face printed on the other side. He comes with the air tanks and the logo on his front is custom faded. It's brilliant.

Awesome. Is there a small set with Benny?

Not yet but his spaceship is coming down the pipe. As well as Emmett's construct-o-mech.

Bummer. I wish I could just buy the minifig.

I may have to buy that against my better judgement.
