Scarlet Monastery(updated quest info and Herod tonight!)

I''m up for checking out the monastery whenever. What zone is it in anyway?

Tirisfal Glades.

OK, I have no idea where Brill or Tirisfal Glades are. I will check out some maps and see where I need to get flight points...

Ruskin (Eezy), Leaping (guess), and myself went to SM last night for the first time. Once again, Blizzard has impressed me with the coolness of the their instance dungeon design. We learned a bit about the zone and got one of the 4 kills done for the main quest. The most important thing we learned: how to go from 0 gold to mount in 2 days! I love you ghosts!

If anyone is looking for me the next couple of days, I will probably be playing graverobber.

Tell me more Flux. How do I get rich quick? I still need like 30 gold for a Ram.

Come with me for a night to the graveyard in SM. Two people is all we need and we should walk out many gold richer.

What color ram you getting by the way?

Oh yeah, since the official forums are blocked here at work I can''t link the thread for you so go to the priest forums on the official forums and look for the 0 to mount in 2 days thread. Credit goes to Leaping for finding all of this out. Enjoy.

Heh, I think I ran into that exact thread yesterday on the official forums... maybe even in the priest forums. Didn''t get a chance to fully read up on it but I think it involes a mage spamming AOE ... Priests are handy for shield and shackle undead.

I''m game for tonight btw, not sure how your schedules are... still lvl 38 though, couldn''t get much time in last night.

The thread did involve a mage and priest but my rogue can solo 3 ghosts at once with no problem and then take the 33 elite undeads to make more ghosts spawn.

Hehe, I guess it doesn''t hurt to give it away since it''s an instance, no fear of overcrowding. This is the thread where I first read it. For those that are blocked, here is the basic strategy, written by a priest speaking about a priest/mage combo, copy/paste:

My primary partner in this endeavor was a level 39 mage. This was, I believe, the best team for the job. The ability to summon water and polymorph the humans, coupled with the priests ability to keep the mage alive and shackle undead, while he puts out massive AoE damage, made mass killing of the creatures in SM a cakewalk.

Here''s the ""Forumulae"" we applied when farming the graveyard.

To get to the graveyard, you have to get by some elite Scarlet humanoids. No problem. If there''s more than two MC one and let the others kill him, and then polymorph the remainder and finish your work. Head to the graveyard.

There are three standard critters that spawn in the graveyard. They are:

-An Anguished Dead Elite
-A Phantasm Elite
-A Group of 3 Ghosts.

Any one of the above three you kill will later respawn with one of the above three again. There are also two rare spawns which drop rare items but watchout, the guy in red is immune to shadow damage.

The pack of three ghosts are really the squishy-center of this experience. Step by step, this is how one priest and one mage killed a couple hundred of them:

-I''d shield myself.
-I would run and lure as many packs of ghosts as possible with a SW: Pain on the ghost in the middle of the group, attracting all three (Usually getting 6-12 ghosts)
-I''d run straight at the mage, while he''s busy charging up a Flamestrike.
-Flamestrike goes off (doing massive damage to every creature in the radius, 300+ with burning damage), I hit fade to drop any stragglers.
-PW: Shield the mage
-Mage Frost Novas/Cone of Cold
-Start spamming flash heal at mage
-Mage casts arcane explosion until all ghosts drop.

This should leave you and the mage at about 1/3 mana if everything went well.

You may encounter problems with Undead adds while pulling, make sure your mage understands your strategy and shackle the undead, and move away sufficiently so the mage''s AoE doesn''t release the undead.

Make sure to kill all the undead elites as you go along one at a time as quickly as possible, so another group of 3 ghosts might respawn in it''s place.

Set loot to round robin, and rinse and repeat until you and your mage have sufficient funds for your purposes.

We had 3 in our group last night, but I think it is best if this is done with 2. The ghosts are lvl 30-32 elites, so two 40s can take them no problem, and the loot is less divided. I think 4 or 6 of us can go to the instance, then break off into groups of 2 and see what we come out with. Oh yeah, make sure you have empty bags, they drop all kinds of loot that sells for good amounts at the vendors.

Leaping,

The ghosts are non-elites and that is what makes it easy.

I found the ''Chillwind'' FP last night, it is closer but you have to run thru lvl >50 mobs to get to the monestary and it''s pretty hard to run back that way. It''s pretty much one way to the monestary at our level.

I was doing research on that this morning Eezy and I saw the Chillwind FP. How long of a run is it to SM from Chillwind? How easy was it to find Chillwind from SM?

Pffft, we don''t need no stinkin flight points to get out.

Not with your pimparse group port we don''t.

The details are thus.

The CW FP is only flyable (with my current FPs) to SouthShore ($2.97s).

It''s easy enough to get to Chillwind, follow the road north to alterac from SS. Then instead of staying straight on the road to go into the ruins of alterac take the right and go through the village of Syndicate there (lvl 30''s mostly hidden and didn''t even attack me). Follow the road and you''ll see a bunch of S:I and Advent folks, there is a gnome FP guy in this little group of buildings. From there it''s about a 5 minute run to the monestary. Instead of following the road into the western plaguelands follow the mountains on your left until you''re about at the middle of the wide short lake on the west side of the road to the plaguelands. Jump in the lake and cross, once you get on land on the other side of this lake the fun with lvl50 and higher mobs begins. There''s a road here that heads east/west, take it west and you''ll soon be in the monestary zone just south of it, kinda where we almost ran to last night before heading north to the monestary.

I tried running back from the SM zone along the road but there were baddies in the way. I died never got around to just trying the reverse course of my initial course to get to SM, via the lake.

Hmm, sounds like a pain. I will use stealth to get through I guess. Thanks.

Do you mean 2 days /played? Or 2 days of 4 hour farming sessions? Or what?

I would say each of us made close to 5 gold in the graveyard in just over an hour. I predict someone could have mount money in about 6 to 8 hours of killing solo. Not to mention the random pattern drops that happen (finally got Iron counterweight!). You will probably get random blue drops after killing that long, which could be worth a mint.

At one point, I think we killed about 10 ghosts in a row that all had 5s or more on them. I can kill a ghost in under 10 seconds so that should help. I am close to 25 gold now so I hope I will only need about 5 hours to get to 72g.

I need to learn how to reset an instance when solo in case the ghosts don''t spawn fast enough, anyone know how?

I think if your whole party leaves and comes back curb? So if you''re solo, try to walk out of the instance and come back in.

EDIT: Yeah, I made about 5g last night, was a little over an hour I think?

I didn''t make as much but I didn''t start picking up until the end. I have a complex on being a loot whore. My bags were half empty. I did make over a gold in silver drops alone.

Damn Eezy, I didn''t even notice until the end when you said you had space. We''ll split the drops or do round-robin or something next time.

No hard feelings man. Now that I know about it it''s not like money will be a problem for long =)

I am going home right now and going to see how solo works out. I will track my gold haul per 30 min.

I couldn''t get past the interregator room solo. I''m in desolace at the moment working on the Brother Anton quest.

Ok, Eezy. I will group up with you on it if you want.

Oh yeah, for my update:

In about exactly 59 minutes (with 2 deaths, avoid the phantasms) I got:

4.5 gold from just looted silver
4 gold more from grey vendor trash
A 12 slot bag
One recipe
A necklace that sold for 1.5g in less than 15 minutes on the AH
9 other green items that are selling for me from between 40s to 60s
A necklace that starts a quest
32 silk
2 mageweave
Food
Drink
Deleted the wool

I should have a mount soon, I need 40 more gold.

Flux, did curb do all that solo? If so, I am definately on my way there next time I log in.

Is there any interest in actually doing the entire instance this weekend? Sunday night?

Yes, Curb did it all solo.

I really don''t think many other classes can do this solo at my level except rogues. Why? I sneak to the graveyard and can use Vanish if I get a bad pull. Any mistakes and everything follows you all the way back to zone in. I also use stealth to pick and choose patches of ghosts. It is really a blast and I will probably stay on it until I have my mount money and then move on.

ALSO!!! I have a skill of 250 in first aid and had a consistent stack of 100 heavy silk bandages to help reduce downtime. I was pretty giddy getting all the stuff to myself. I used a health potion about 3 times the entire hour and that was when I got jumped by a phantasm. Phantasms suck for 2 reasons: they are 33 elites usually and their spell they cast summons a ghost that hits like a 33 but has no hitpoints. So, if you don''t take care of his ""pets"" you die fast. I avoid them completely now.

Edit:I just realized something. I think that you, Cope, and Eezy could still do it. My recommendation? Zone in, take out the single guard in the first hallway (I think there is one or two there). Next, get the first 2 torturge guys on the left when you look into the torture room by pulling them out with range (watch out for the single patrol), then rest up if you need to. Then, take out the 2 torture guys on the right torture table only when the patrol is not in the room. Pulling him back to the entrance to the torture room is probably a good idea. Then, take out the patrol. Try and avoid the group of 4 torturers in the far left corner if possible and get down the hallway to the graveyard. It might work, who knows. I probably forgot a guard or 2, if so, sorry.

Hmmm ... I can use feign death which is probably about the same as vanish. Can''t sneak though. How much sneaking is needed to get to the graveyard?

I have to sneak by 6 or 7 total guards. I say train them all to the graveyard and feign then. Kill what you can along the way.

Edit: Oh yeah, I am ready for SM anytime this week. Let''s try and start organizing a group now and get ready. If we do it Sunday then I will probably take the time to get the additional quests besides the main one. What is strange about SM is that I only really care about the main quest. SM is a little thin compared to the Deadmines and the Stockades for total number of interesting quests.

By main quest I mean In the Name of the Light. We now know how to clear the first 2 wings of SM with no problem. We have 5 people with scarlet keys as well so we can open the 2 large locked doors that will finish the instance. The ""undead wing"" does not contain a guy for the main quest but does have the graveyard and some other nice drops on the boss mob there. We can do it again rather quickly. I may try and solo him tonight.

I am up for it this weekend. Where does the In the Name of the Light start? Desolace?

I have to say, when he had that bad pull in the courtyard with all the dogs and had that epic fight where we killed about 20 mobs...

That was awesome. Like a well-oiled machine, we were. I should have got a screenie of all those dead bodies.

Damn, I almost forgot. That was incredible. I think we killed over 8 mobs at once including the dogs.
