We should definitely get a new set of songs for the new month. I'll throw out Paint It, Black - The Rolling Stones as a suggestion. Full Metal Jacket was on the tube.

Sounds good to me. It seems like interest was waning a bit, but I can edit the OP and we'll see if we can get things going.

I'm still interested but since I already picked some songs I didn't feel like picking other songs.

Heh. "Get your Stones out" didn't evoke quite the image you probably intended.

It probably did.

I'm still playing along, but I started a month later than everyone else, so I'm behind the 8-ball a bit. Also been pretty short of time, only have time to play 3 or 4 days a week.

I'm still in! "Paint it Black" is a great choice, as I haven't played it much.

So you say.

OK, here's "Paint it Black" after a handful of plays:

And for DLC songs... uhhhhhh... White Wedding (Part 1) - Billy Idol. The week of n00b!

Paint it Black: So those bends on the on the B string...I'll slide my fret hand around all day long to avoid bending with my pinkie.

I'm having a tough time getting them right as written too. The bends are so quick that I can't nail them before they are gone.

Yeah, I need to make those bends with my ring finger. It isn't that much more movement, and it's actually possible to make the bend.

My pinkie is definitely getting stronger, so I've been trying to play these with four fingers as much as possible.

But, I really wish there was some additional visual feedback on the bends other than the ubiquitous "MISS" or "LATE." I'd love to know if I bent too far or not enough, etc. Theoretically, I should be able to compare the animated string to the note box, but on a lot of bends—especially quick ones—I'm not seeing the animated string move at all.

I understand that bend recognition is probably one of the most challenging parts of Rocksmith to code, but some more feedback would be great.

On some of the more complex or unusual bends the only way I can even figure out what to do is listen to the song normally and try to hear what I am supposed to be doing. Sometimes that's not even helpful if the mix of the song obscures the bend enough. It's frustrating - I need to work on bends, but I think I need to do it outside of the game with a tuner.

The alternate lead with the capo removes a lot of the bends, but then the chord changes murder me. I just can't win.

I just picked up a capo for some justinguitar stuff. Does Rocksmith make use of capos as well?

The bass part for Paint It Black is kinda hard, mainly due to speed and getting the rhythm down on the alternating strings. Also nice painful pinky extension from 7th fret to the 9th and 10th on the A string while holding the 7th fret on the E. Also, a pick (for me at least) is a bad idea; this is a pure finger plucker. After some work, got it to 92.1% mastery. Still work to be done though.

Rarely. Didn't know about the alternate lead on Paint It Black. The Wonderwall DLC was the first song that I know of to require a capo.

I'm actually falling behind on the Rocksmith stuff again, I've got another show Saturday. (Unpaid, of course... just playing at a community gathering.) Still, it feels good to do something outside of playing in the living room.

Managed to get 85.5% on the guitar lead chart for Paint it Black. The bends are no problem for me, it's the weird timing on the chords that kills me.

Tried the bass part and got 97.5%. I hit some kind of zone where my fingers were just playing, I wasn't even consciously thinking about it. That'll probably not happen again for awhile, but it was fun while it lasted.

I'm still just doing the bass emulation thing with the guitar (weak sauce, I know), but it's worth it just to play this part:

More work and I got up to 96.2% on Paint It Black.

Yes, those are fun on the bass.

I've been neglecting this thread as I have sort of found myself playing rhythm guitar in a band of late, and had to focus on that. I will continue to update the OP as needed upon request, but can't devote a whole lot of time to the actual stuff being practiced.

So the game seems to register my playing but doesn't play any audio for my input, I've played around a bit with the Windows input settings but doesn't seem to change anything. Any suggestions?

The only way I could see it registering your playing and not giving you audio would be the in game mixer settings.

ah indeed by turning everything else down, leaving the player 1 bass slider at 100, and turning my system audio up i was able to hear it. Thanks!
