Need help replicating bug - PvP

Ok, here's the deal. I need 1 "high level" Horde Priest willing to meet me somewhere, potentially Ashenvale if that's easiest, to test a possible PvP bug. You'll need to cast whatever your priestly DoT spell is that has a nasty cloud around the target, maybe purple, maybe green, I forget.

You also _might_ need to trip _your_ PvP flag some other way, but I don't think so, I think it's inherent in the game mechanics.

Background: I was in Ashenvale to finish off my Verigan's Fist quest and had gotten the gem I needed from Blackfathom and was running to the little lakeside alliance refuge on the south end of Ashenvale. I'd already run through the Alliance town at the center of the zone, gotten the griff point, and was past where I _should_ have turned south.

A Horde priest comes running down the road, throws his hand up in the air with fingers flayed, I got a "bad effect" icon(like poison, disease, debuff) and my health started going down in chunks every couple of seconds. I didn't get the guy's name or the name of the DoT, I was too busy using potions, LayOnHands, and heals in an attempt to stay alive.

My PvP flag was OFF both before and after he DoTted me, his was on after, but I don't know about before. I didn't do anything to enter PvP. I was simply running down the road. On my way back to catch a flight out of Ashenvale, I saw him sitting at the bend in the road, drinking water, with a pile of mid-20s bodies around him. I reported it on the Local Defense channel and someone said he was level 60 and ganking level 25-ish folks.

This is clearly either an exploit or a true bug. Either way this guy is griefing. The GM said without a name, they can't do much, but that he's inclined to agree that it is a bug.

So, I want to meet with a GWJ Horde Priest in-game and on TeamSpeak to test this out. I'll forgo any "normal" gameplay plans(instances, groups, quests, training) if we can get together and prove that there's a hole in the whole PvP-flag system as regards priest, DoTs, or spells in general.

Help me GWJ Horde, you're my only hope.

I had a somewhat similar experience, but it may be the my ignorance of the game rules.

I was running from NE land to Desolace. In one of the barren areas, I had to run by a lvl 40 Horde Mob to continue on. I threw on my shield and ran by, he aggroed on me and I kept running. I ran for about 20 second and threw on another shield. I noticed that I kept getting hit, even though the mob should have dropped off by now. I look behind me and a Horde Shaman PC is chasing me and casting spells on me. I was confusing because I didn''t think that I had done anything that would ""pvp"" me. Does getting attacked by NPC mobs automatically
""pvp"" you? I thought you had to attack an NPC mob.

Anyway, the Shaman was only lvl 20 (to my 34) so I ran a bit further to see if he would stop (he didn''t) and then he got dealt with. For those of you scoring at home I am now 2-0 versus the silly Horde.

No thats how it works...once you enter combat with certain flagged NPC Mobs you can be flagged PVP

Same here. I have enjoyed the thrill of the PvP fights so far. I know I will get my share of beatdowns (especially as a leather wearing rogue) but I can take it.

I also noticed something else..

There was a level 1 Gnome Mage in Booty Bay standing on some part of a building out of reach of the Horde Flight Path NPC and the Manticores.

He was casting some nuke at the manticores over and over causing them to spawn over and over so basically there were 50 some Manticores making it very difficult for Horde Players to target the Flight Path NPC.

I got screenshots and the GM informed me the player was caught and warned and temp banned for a period of time.

Next infraction will result in perma ban.

Yeehaa!

I thought you had to ""tap"" the mob. I did no damage to him.

once you enter combat with certain flagged NPC Mobs you can be flagged PVP

Which is all well and good, and if that had happened to me, I''d be ok with ""that''s how it works"". But it didn''t. Opposition PCs should NOT be able to ignore your PvP flag, which is what this Priest did.

Any GWJ Horde Priests(or possibly any class with DoTs or DD spells?) want to get together for some quick testing? If we meet in or near Ashenvale, I need some advance notice so I can get there and minimize everyone''s ""downtime"" to do the test.

Hep me, hep me.

Sounds like a bug...suprised I havent seen or heard about it before..

I know a couple level 60 priests so I''ll ask them tonight.

I wonder if its a talent skill...those are still suprisingly buggy.

I think Talent skills are easily so far the source of most of the bugs and game logic breakers.

side note..I respec''d my talents last night and duh should have realized that unlearning 2H Mace and Axe and relearning it reset the skill back to 0 (5 in case of 2H Axe since Orcs get a +5 to Axe skill)

grr...

Sounds like a bug...

Which is what the GM said, but said he couldn''t do anything if I didn''t have the guy''s name(I filed under griefing, since he was, well, griefing, in addition to exploiting a bug) other than investigate.

Which is why I want to replicate it, so I can rereport the bug, but in-game and on the forums, with screenies maybe, and show exactly how to circumvent the PvP flag. If you''re buddies are on Blackhand, I''d be more than happy to let them try to kill me with a DoT if we can prove the flag doesn''t work for us carebears.

Noone? Come on Hordies, you don''t have to be level 60, just higher level than my Paladin so your spell will definitely land. I''m 26, so any Priest higher level than that will do.

Hell, I''ll make it reaaaaaaally easy, I''ll come all the way to the Barrens if you don''t want to meet in Ashevale, or I could work my way all the way to Gadget if that''s easier, or 1000Needles.

I just want someone to try to hit me with a DoT. Anyone? Surely you''re not all scared of my paladin uberness...

I tried hitting various horde last night with my DoT and no dice. So it''s either a bug/exploit, or you somehow got flagged as pvp.

Edit:

Oh yeah. I found out the hard way that snowballs will pvp you. Thrower beware.

Maybe the griefer''s flag needs to be on already.

My flag was definitely OFF both before and after. There is no question about that. What about the talent-line DoT priests get.... MindFlay? Do you have that? Can you try it? Do you have an easy/safe way to turn on your flag so you can do it?

I haven''t played my shaman in ages... do we have DoTs? Maybe I can test it out myself if I can still find any snowballs.

I just have Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Flay is a channel. Was he undead?

Yes, I believe he was undead, why?

Karla has an Undead Priest but she''s not nearly as high a level as this guy is. I don''t think we have any crazy high level Priests in the guild.

not nearly as high a level as this guy

It might not matter. If she''s high enough to hit me with spells (and willing to find a way to trip her PvP flag in case we need to do that to test it) then she can name a place(without Horde NPCs) and I''ll meet her for a bit of a target dummy impression.

I''ll let her know you''re looking, we''ll actually be on Teamspeak for Tuesday night Horde tonight at 8PM CST.

I don''t want to throw a wrench in the weekly group night, but I could hang out in another TS channel and when you guys are done, we could try to meet up and play Pincushion Paladin(tm).

Snowballs definitely do NOT trip your PvP flag. I bought 60 of them just to throw at the horde when they run by. I''m down to 20 and I haven''t been tripped once. Now if you throw a snowball at a Horde NPC, I don''t know?

Interesting Leaping. That makes me think that Jimm threw his at the griffon master in Tanaris.

Trying throwing one at a PVP-flagged horde and see what that gets you.

Ah, ok. Of course it will flag you then.

Yes, well...I know that NOW!

Just for fun, I danced while they beat me down.

You will have your revenge!

Everytime a horde runs by I try to see if they have PvP on but I haven''t seen one yet. I want some action dammit!

I see flagged PVP Horde occasionally run by... usually about 10 levels over me

Do you remember the spell''s icon, Ducki? The Shadow Word: Pain is orange and black and has a skull. My build is disc/holy so I don''t have any other damage over time spells or talents and don''t know what the effect looks like. I think the PW:P does put a general shodowy black/purple/green tinge on the target though.

Griefers love me because I hate them so much. Good luck helping Blizzard put a lid on this thing.

I asked it the Priest was undead, because it could have been devouring plague if it was. That is an undead only Priest spell. I would think that that spell might be broke over Power Word: Pain. If there was a PW:P exploit, they would have fixed it by now.

I got screenshots and the GM informed me the player was caught and warned and temp banned for a period of time.

They actually did something? SoE would have shrugged their virtual shoulders, assuming I was ever able to talk to a GM in the first place.

Must... resist... WoW...

oh it was several hours later before a GM contacted me...

But I had screenshots and captured the players name..so from there it was easy

I don''t.

Now I think we''re getting somewhere.

Damn me and my trying to stay alive and panicking instead of checking logs, writing names, and taking screenshots. Next time, though, I''ll be ready.
