Cube World: Exploration-based ARPG/Hack-and-Slash

Is the game still €15? The developer has made the asinine decision to lock the buy page behind an account wall, and I'm not making an account for a game that I don't even know if I want / can afford. Thanks!

Sigh, I can't see, it says I already bought it rather than a price, but it's likely still the same price.

I have no idea why these people haven't Kickstarted their way into a bigger team and better funding. Kind of crazy.

Some people just want to do things on their own for a sense of accomplishment or something. I call those people weirdos, bring on other peoples money haha.

I'm just happy to keep seeing continued activity from them. I have high hopes this will turn out to be good, although I haven't played in a long while. Waiting for more to do.

That's exactly the same boat I'm in....hay...what are you doing in my boat!?! Geddout! *kicks*

I'm curious as to if I should get this title. I'm really into the RPG/Open World/Hack and Slash genre, and I'm not sure if I want to wait for the full release to purchase this, or get it on a discount now. I'm definitely going to log quite a bit of time into it, just looking to see what the GWJ community thinks.

Things went pretty crazy for this when it first appeared, but it's been so long since any kind of update, with only a little information from the dev. No doubt it will become a good game, but at the moment, I'm not sure there's enough to it.

Stay away, I am starting to think its mostly vaporware. lol

I'd hold off for now. It's not vapourware, but there's not enough there to be worth buying at the moment. Wait and see when the next update actually lands.

Yeah, I bought it a while back, fully expecting a barely functional alpha version, but even then I was disappointed. It isn't crashy at all, but there's just not much to do in it right now.

agree, but the reason I mentioned vaporware (It's not but I didn't have a better word) is because when the last update hit I was still running a pentium4 and listening to Dave Matthews

double post, sorry

Huh, I didn't think they had an update last month.

Its a pretty fun little alpha. I spent a ton of time collecting animal pets. That said...

Don't buy it now. Wollay has been pretty terse during development, and the release cluster-fluffle seems to have made that even worse. He is very much coding the game he wants for himself. Selling it to us seems like a side benefit.

Oh hey, he's alive! Tweets: (also, following devs is pretty much the only reason I use twitter)

Still haven't bought it, but I like the sound what I'm hearing, except the map marker thing. I'm not sure how exactly that's gonna play out, but hope markers can be added upon finding things / manually.

Well, at least something is happening. Hopefully someday before I retire, this game won't have been a complete waste of money. Yes, yes, I know I was buying into an alpha game, but it's been aaaaages since anything substantial came out from the dev, in communication, let alone actual game updates.

I've said this somewhere before, but I think its worth repeating:

I followed Wollay's blog for about a year before the alpha. He often went months with no updates, and sometimes only broke silence with a "not dead" tweet. This behavior isn't new, or particularly alarming. Though I do understand how it's annoying. Wollay, much like Blizzard and Valve, will get it done in his own time.

He probably could have postponed the alpha, but I've been having fun with it so I'm pretty okay with the general state of things.

Pleased to see work is still ongoing and I look forward to the next playable version - whenever that happens to be

Another little trickle of info. Possibly an update to the game soon?

and

but, when expanding that conversation you get this at the end:

News! Quest system preview vid:

Read about it here.

It's good to have news. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see an actual update.

I officially feel burned by this game

At least they're not selling it still.

Dammit, what the hell. Why'd y'all bump this thread? I thought there was an update or something. f*ck.

I was just wondering the other day if this thing was alive or not.

Better than nothing I suppose:

That's great news, actually. He said he's a perfectionist. I just hope he and his wife don't let perfect get in the way of done.

Someone in the comments of that article mentioned Trove, which I hadn't heard of. It has a sort of similar aesthetic, but looked kind of dumb to me. Plus, "free to play MMO" ... no thanks.

I played an early alpha or beta of Trove. It has the look, but was nothing special at the time. Certainly not enough to get me to go back and try it, but it might have come on.

Trove hadn't really entered my radar, but since I'm now very tired of waiting for news on Cube World I might check it out. Curious situation with the Cube World developer.
