ArcheAge: Catch-All

Gameplay demo from Trion's E3 booth.

A couple I group with in NWN from Grievance have talked me into playing Archeage with them once the US version launches. I tossed my name into the beta pool at their insistence though I have no clue when their aiming to launch this. While I was initially put off by this game due to my understanding of open world PvP where other players can basically rob you blind, ala EVE, I've since been told that's not quiet accurate. I have to admit that a giant sandbox world where you have over 120 class combinations and can craft basically anything has me interested.

It's still very similar to EVE. You're safe in certain areas and if you leave taht area you can be killed. You dont lose any of your personal gear though. Now if you're transporting trade items in a open pvp zone you will lose that and there's trade mechanics in place that makes doing that enticing which in turns brings out the pirates.

Are they going to be part of an alliance? With the new player factions being implemented there's a been a big push here recently of NA guilds trying to band together and get factions established before the game launches.

They're hoping to have enough interest from other Grievance members to have the guild start a branch on that game and any alliances would be handled at that time.

Count me in.

Also another note on guild pre game orginaztion you need to have folks decide which side you'll be located. Someone that starts off on the east contintent wont be able to level up (well not until much later and at great peril) together with someone from the west. The races available are dependent on which side you pick too.

Portal GameMeca.com interviewed Choi Chung-ho, head of planning development XLGAMES. Choi Chung Ho told about the system state and future development of the game, saying, "At last I can confidently say that ArcheAge is the way I wanted it and see."

Q: Could you briefly describe the system of states?
A: To understand the system of factions in ArcheAge, just look at the history of mankind. In Europe, the one who grabbed the land automatically became the feudal lord of the area. The one who was able to subdue all the feudal lords became king. During the preparation of this element the game we had to make considerable efforts to develop a precise plan a similar evolution of the state. With the opening of the Original continent we have offered players the community, allowing it to explore. By combining the power of these groups, you can create a state.
The system allows users to states, still unites exclusively in the guild, create alliances. Government, organized in such a way to recognize the independence of the former factions of East and West continents and can choose the path of development. With the function of diplomatic relations, they will be able to unite the factions declare war or other players or entire continents. That is, the player is able to gain independence from the former system, and the residents of East and West over the world can finally become neighbors. This is very important because the players have the opportunity to own, without the involvement of the developer, to decide what the opposition will be realized in the world.

Q: Medieval Europe. That is, there will the concept of nobility and ordinary peasants?
A: First, I must say that in any state to be king, has unlimited power and collects taxes from his subjects. If previously you had to pay tax on the continent, it is now the ruler of the faction itself sets the amount of taxes and controls. He has unlimited power to transfer the rights to another user can not. This is different from the rulers of locks and to create a sense of presence in this realm. But if the king for a long time does not appear in the game, his powers are transferred to another player.
The King has the right to break the law, you can not blame him (but still karma points are awarded). Is it possible to put the king in jail? Only if he decides that he deserved punishment. Here is a brief rights of the king. If he wants to - at the same time be able to be the head of the guild that owns the castle. To obtain such rights and sit on the throne, it is necessary to gather the clan and become independent. But retain the right to the throne is also not easy.
Ordinary citizens and will be called. They are entitled to as much as necessary to migrate from country to country. In case of war between states residents are its members. If there is no desire to fight, then you can stay in a safe area and enjoy the usual gameplay. In the case of the disappearance of the state of its citizens once again come under the auspices of the Eastern or the Western world.

Q: If a large number of states will begin to build alliances and declare war, not too many things fall on the continents?
A: After the appearance of the players themselves decide with whom to be friends with and who - to fight. And, of course, diplomatic ties in the game will be much more difficult. To avoid confusion, in July, we plan to add an interface that allows you to see the entire political picture of the world as a whole.

Q: How can I will support and develop the state? Will the revolution possible and whether a system similar to the States?
A: Each state has a king, below him in rank - the guild holding locks. If a clan unhappy monarch, its members can declare independence and create a new faction. It's like a revolution. But the country without a king can not be.

Q: Will the possible battle between countries? Or massive battles in the fields?
A: Maybe, but in these battles will be activated current system sieges. Simply troops besieging will consist of the states, and in random battles will be possible emergence of other groups. In this partnership will diversify such confrontation.

Q: Will there be regular users need to join a guild or faction?
A: The system should solve the problem of imbalance over the world. Now we see this on multiple servers. Users can now move into independent states and to determine their own policies.

Q: Should I be concerned about the state of the system?
A: First of all, it was very difficult to determine the relationship between countries and continents. After creating a faction players will have to choose what kind of relationship they will have with other countries. If we force them to fight the continents, there is a lot of problems, because there would be a possibility that will have to fight with a server. Therefore, we have decided that at the time the state is in friendly relations with the continent, and then can go against it.

Q: It is said, but war factions, ArcheAge quite a bit of entertainment. Apparently, the system of user state also is directed to the development of cooperation between the players?
A: First, it should be noted that the content of essential not only for RvR. I have already mentioned the example: those who used to be difficult to travel between continents, will now have the opportunity - depending on the prevailing political relations in the world. We are also working on the possibility of introducing a variety of effects, and the gains that will act on the citizens of states. The system will be extended further.
In addition to custom factions, we are planning a lot of different updates, aimed at solo players. For example, the new instance in which a minimum number of characters needed to pass, will be reduced from 10 to 1-3. Soon there will be additional arena for groups and individuals.

Q: When the opportunity to play for free, ArcheAge appeared many newcomers. Is it too difficult for them to play on the servers already developed, in particular, to participate in the siege and to farm?
A: We do our best to help beginners get the most enjoyment from the game. Therefore, fields were added, which can be rented, and the like will appear more often. For example, one of the scheduled update is aimed at improving the initial stage of development of the character.

Q: How does the system of impact on ArcheAge?

A: Now, any player will be able to leave a mark in the history of the world.
The July update will contain content that allows the state to create, manage, and destroy them. I am very curious as to the impact of the members on what is happening in the game. We will continuously monitor the situation and follow the comments.

Q: Your wishes for ArcheAge?

A: After this update, each player will be able to say, "I've been involved in the creation of ArcheAge». I hope that all members will take part in the creation of a new history of the game world.

P.S:

New posts by the NA/EU Community Manger:

Hey everyone,

It’s been a while since I made a post here outside of the Shoutbox so I thought I’d make it one about a topic that I’m sure is on many of your minds. “When will the wait be over?”

I wish I could give you the date and time today – but the ones we have in mind could still change, even if they are the best laid plans of mice & men!

A little bit about those plans

There’re many things we need to accomplish in order to successfully release ArcheAge to players in North America and Europe. Some hurdles are bigger than others and, in some cases, determine our ability to move forward towards launch.

The first really big one, in progress right now, is working with XL to integrate the game itself with our account/billing platform. This is essential to enabling server access for anyone outside of our office – we do not pass GO, we do not collect $200 until this very important phase has been completed. It is the top priority but, as you can imagine, it is extraordinarily complex with many people and moving parts involved.

To a similar end, XL Games is coming over here very soon and is helping us to set up our server architecture to run ArcheAge according to its design.

Of course, we also need to localize the game so you’re not playing in Korean. We’ve got the first large chunk of localization done, and we’re working on the updates and doing edit passes to make sure that the localization is as good as we can possibly make it.

Once these significant milestones have been accomplished closed testing can begin – our plan is to be at this point within the next few months!

Testing & You

No doubt the very mention of testing gets some of you excited! Perhaps you’ve even just clicked my name with plans to send a brief PM explaining why you would be the perfect candidate (it’s easier to sign up at www.archeagegame.com, but I do appreciate the letters). We’re just as excited to get to the point where we can invite external testers but expect the closed testing period to last at least a few months.

What’s changing?

I realize that no shortage of your eagerness for more info has to deal with what aspects of ArcheAge we are modifying or changing.

Know this: Any “Westernization” that occurs will likely be very minimal and done to improve usability/understanding of mechanics based on conventions we’ve grown accustomed to that differ from those of Korean gamers.

Don’t expect entirely new features exclusive to the NA/EU release or sweeping changes to mechanics – what you can expect are small tweaks to the way some existing features function. ArcheAge is already an amazing game, that’s why we have always been excited publish it.

It’s also very important to keep in mind that this game is constantly changing. There have been so many awesome features since ArcheAge launched in Korea and we want to make sure we have as many of them as possible available at release. Changing around mechanics and the fundamental systems that fuel the game would only increase the amount of time it would take to incorporate new and future updates – not a good thing!

While we’re on this topic, I think it’s important that I point out where the most significant change and work is going to take place: The Text.

We’re talking over 1,000,000 words AND climbing!

It’s no small feat to achieve and the biggest challenge here is the fact that there are many distinct differences between Western & Korean cultures that we need to take into account. Everything from value systems to how we greet and interact with people based on our relationship to them is different. This matters a lot to language and the way things are written/expressed which means that localization is not as simple as running everything through Google Translate - at least not if we want an entertaining experience… well, one we can understand that is

What’s next?

Expect things to stay quiet for a few more weeks at least - until accounts are able to login to the game through our platform we’ll be busy planning live streams and the future roll out of content, not to mention reading a lot (A LOT) of text. You’ll know when things are really getting going, the noise will be deafening!

Until then, keep the feedback coming & thanks as always for your continued support of ArcheAge – I realize after possibly YEARS of waiting this may not come easily to some but enjoy these early days, cherish them even. They will not last, I guarantee it

Cheers,

Hey all,

I've seen a few people around the web ask the question: "X Region is doing Y BETA and launching on Z Date - wtf Trion!?"

It's important to understand a few very important points:
- North America/Europe is actually one of the newest partnership agreements for ArcheAge, Japan has had an agreement for YEARS in fact!

- XL Games is only one company working with all of these partners, each of us have our own needs - they have to prioritize and assist us according to our release schedules, not all work can be done simultaneously!

- Every region & their requirements are different. Not everyone has to work with the ESRB/PEGI or have fewer/more retailers to deal with, for example - every situation is going to be unique & different audiences have different tolerances for issues at launch (hint, we have a really really low tolerance). Besides the fact that we're all publishing the same game, trying to compare is frankly apples to oranges.

I hope that gives some perspective, cheers!

and now with cars

and bears...

1.0 update for the KR version.

Still no word on the progress of the NA version.

Trion is dropping the ball big time!

fangblackbone wrote:

It's my understanding that a lot of the onus is on XLgames. Trion has to wait on them to get back to them for all the changes and they're in no hurry since they've been working on their KR updates.

Hopefully with this one out the door they'll now swing back around to the NA version.

This game and Blade and Soul are taking forever to come to NA/Eu. At least we know Trion is working on bringing this over but so far, not a lot of news for Blade and Soul in the West. I've played the Chinese version and I loved what I played, but the latency can be really bad sometimes, so my experience was not so smooth because of that.

Out of the KR games being developed that i'm interested in I think Black Desert seems to have the most steam behind them that would get them to NA shores first.

There is hope for Bless too I think.

fangblackbone wrote:

While Bless looks good everything I've read said it's boring and typical compared to the other 3.

FYI

Massively had an article stating that the NA version was in Friends & Family testing currently and that the translation was 80% done.

So, 6 months out? Which may mean that it will come out at a time when people are just about to get bored with D3 RoS, Wildstar and TESO...

I keep forgetting about RoS.

I'll say it here so it wont be considered troll bait in the other threads, but I see TESO going the same path as SWTOR. Which personally I don't see as a bad thing. There's a lot fun to be had, but with the mismanagement of their marketing they're going to piss a lot of people off which will hide the good that's actually there.

Wildstar has the potential to stick around for awhile. They have some moving pieces to nail down, but if everything lines up the way it's looking like it might they'll be here awhile.

As for this... I'd say 6 months is a good guess.

Oh that wasn't a statement that either TESO or Wildstar will fail. It was just a statement that pretty much every mmo sees a dip around the 3 month mark due to the must-play-newness rubbing off.

This game launched in Korea in Jan 2013? Man, I really thought it had been out there for a couple of years. People being antsy are crazy. I mean, I get it, completely, but playing on Russian servers instead of waiting a few months...

Edit: Btw, I'm posting because I just read the news post about Trion getting back from Korea and visiting with XL. Things are officially moving, finally.

Believe it when I see it. And speaking of crazy I was one of them. I paid extra to play on the Korean servers at launch for 3 months. The game is a LOT of fun for me.

Yes, I know you did. It seems like a beta is likely by the end of the year, so playing on a Russian server sounds like a complete waste of time.

New Community Manager at Trion on AAS. http://archeagesource.com/topic/3088...

important bits...

Let’s open with the burning question I’ve had tweeted and Skyped and yelled out of passing cars at me since I joined the ArcheAge Team at Trion Worlds: “When can I play the game?” You may know that ArcheAge is currently in an initial Friends and Family Alpha meaning the tester group is extremely small and nigh-internal. What you don’t yet know is that since the recent launch service in Russia, XLGames has been providing tremendous engineering effort toward making ArcheAge go live in the west as rapidly as possible. The work involved in launching a new region with support for three languages, unique to Trion’s version, is no small undertaking on top of integrating the game with our account, patching, operational, billing, and logging systems.

With that in mind, we plan to expand the alpha in coming weeks following GDC this month. This strictly NDA’d phase will initially focus on pillars of the ArcheAge community but will definitely grow out further. “But what about beta?” We’ll be transitioning from alpha to an NDA-free closed beta as the tasks mentioned above get knocked out one at a time, so we can have the best, fastest launch possible. While the tech work continues, the team is also finalizing plans for “early supporter” pre-launch packages slated to be introduced during this timeframe and available for the duration of closed beta, leading into launch later this year.

Alpha in a few weeks and then beta. Launch by the end of the year is possibly ambitious.

All good news though!

Do yourself a favor and mute that video when watching it.

Holy crap yes... wow!
