Yeah and I wish there was some way you could build stuff with even lighting and make murals. Light only shines so far into solid walls.

So is the server kaput?

Although your creation would be...ephemeral, there are multiplayer servers (just google for them) dedicated to building art works.
These typically run mods on them that let you create all the material you want, generate whatever monsters you wants, etc.,
and the world itself, instead of being normally generated, is one big blank canvas. These worlds also generally have people willing to teach you and willing to collaborate. When I first started on one, I helped make a HUGE prison, which was then populated by monsters in each jail cell by one of the admins. It was pretty cool.

Item management is better if you make a system for yourself (and some people use statues or other object to remind themselves where stuff goes), and you consistently use the button that autofills the chest with whatever is already in the chest. So if you have a chest that is just seeds and flowers, and you go harvest a bunch (from your own clay pots or the world), you click on the chest, and then the autofill button which takes everything out of your inventory matching the contents of the chest. Easy peasy.

My management breaks down after a while, with so much loot, and so much "oh...but maybe I'll need this or if I have a friend play in my world...", but generally if you sort by type per chest, and group like chests together, and set up your house to be very expandable and huge....it works out.

Seems so, ask Erik about it I guess.

Just started replaying this game. I think I forgot everything and there is a bunch of new stuff. Can't remove water by placing blocks and removing them any more. New slimes with umbrellas and some made of ice. Crazy, crazy world.

Sorry I have not been checking the thread. I will get it back up tomorrow. MSG me on Steam if it happens again.

Yeah, I've also put in a bunch more hours after watching some post-1.2 streams. I kinda hit a wall again. I'd like to go grab all the stuff from the biome chests in the dungeon, but grinding for molds and temple keys is boooooring. I'm not sure I want to invest the time into building an arena for the pumpkin event either.
I really enjoyed all the new bosses though. Triggering hard mode and then taking out the four associated bosses was a good return on my time investment.

The GWJ server is back up (I think...). There are places set up for all of the above (a little to left of main house, after the decorative sword/banner thing, get on the teleporter, and teleport under the ice right next to it. Turn on the 1 second counters....watch ice things die til you get an ice key.

Also, if you use the teleporter inside the house, go up top, and use...i think 3 teleports to the right, you'll find a similar death trap for jungle key bit.

You can thank Tamren.

Just bring some battle potions to drink and...pretty soon you'll have stuff.

There's also a nice dungeon setup for getting ectoplasm or whatever you need from dungeon, just bring obsidian potions as it abounds with lava.

Tamren or I could take you through the farming set ups for keys. They're easy to use. He made one for Crimson key as well, but not sure if traps are still all set up.

Yup, the GWJ server has teleporters set up to take you to various locations in a couple seconds. Hell, Dungeon, Jungle, Temple, even some combat arenas we built.

The arena I built under Roo's tree just to the right of the clubhouse is currently set up for doing the pumpkin boss. I can solo farm the bosses but I only get halfway up the difficulty curve before the event ends because I only have so much DPS. It's also where I farmed most of my keys by getting a bunch of pirate maps and ramming successive waves into my heavily trapped arena. To get the biome keys all you have to do is change the biome by contaminating it with Hallow, Crimson or Corruption. Once you do that every mob no matter what it is has a chance of dropping keys. You can also do the jungle keys there, but it's a little trickier because you have to put down enough mud to change the biome versus just contaminating the grass. Ice keys have their own arena off to the left of the base.

Come to think of it the pumpkin moon event spawns a sh*tTON of monsters, even more than the pirate invasion. That could be used to make a key with the right biome. Pirates have some awesome loot too.

Terarria 1.2.2 Changelog

Spoiler:

Mechanics and Gameplay:

  • The content of presents have been altered and now contain more goodies. They are also now placeable and stack in your inventory.
  • Santa Claus now has a larger variety of Holiday related items that he will sell to you.
  • Frostmoon is a new event that can be triggered in hardmode. It has 15 standard waves as well as 5 extra bonus waves.
  • The Frostmoon is triggered by a Naughty Present. To make the Naughty Present you need 20 silk, 5 Ectoplasm, and 5 Souls of Fright.
  • There are several new pets as well as 1 new mount that will drop off one of the Frostmoon bosses.
  • Holiday themed wallpaper can now be purchased from the Painter.
  • Maximum player buff slots has been increased to 22.

New Music:

  • There is now an alternate to the underground theme.
  • There is a new track that will play during the Frostmoon.

Bug fixes:

  • Recording Pumpkin song no longer creates an Ankh.
  • NPCs now go to shelter during eclipses.
  • World gen no longer saves broken chest slots.
  • Increased the damage bonus of stealthing in Shroomite armor.
  • Items which regenerate health per hit now have a cap of 2 hearts per second.
  • Flame traps will no longer trigger healing from Spectre Armor.

I am of course more than happy to find a time for several of us to do the new winter event again and again...

Sure, we can do the pumpkin thing a couple times while we are at it.

Sounds good. I made a trap palace similar to the one you set up on the GWJ server, and got to a similar stage as Pumpkin (like 7 or 8 solo) in my single player world.
So seems very doable with maybe 3 or more people to get to the end

Of note...

Spoiler:

I could have made it farther if I'd just put my bed on the trap platform

And actually a real spoiler

Spoiler:

It is the same exact progression and almost the same guys with different pictures as Pumpkin King, apart from the freakin' little helicopters. Take out the helicopters fast, as they can move/shoot through walls and if there's more than 5 of them in a swarm....yer screwed.

Ho Ho Now Mr Snowman has a machine gun. UMMMM No he doesn't.

Merry Christmas.

Awesomeness.

I just got an update to download for xbox 360 Terraria. Anyone know what was updated?
Maybe it's just me, but I think the backgrounds are moving more 3d-ish like the PC...not sure what else got changed.
Linkies?

Thanks go to Roo for hooking me up with Terraria for Christmas. Americans abroad represent!

So for some reason I can not host a game. What I am thinking is either my ip address is wrong or the lan address is wrong. I used google to find my ip address and ipconfig to find my lan address.

I also forwarded port 7777 and allowed access to my firewall.

Router: Linksys Wireless G WRT54G v8

Any ideas on what to check?

Never mind I'm a freaking idiot. I didn't check the enable check box for the forwarded port.

How is the iOS port?

Actually that's great news. Simple fix.

I can find a much less uber character to join you...

I picked this up during steam sale, for some reason its just not clicking with me after playing minecraft. Maybe I'm missing something?

Fastmav347 wrote:

Visit some other people's worlds to see what they've done. Public multiplayer servers can be a bit insane, so i'm not sure i'd recommend them, but find some folks on here like me who've been playing a while and see what there actually is to do. Also, have you fought the first boss yet?

Spoiler:

Cut down a lot of trees, make like 150 wooden platforms. Make an area with 3 or 4 levels of platforms that you can just jump to. Put campfires around on the platforms. Kill demon eyes at night til you get 10 lenses. Find a demon altar (purple spiky thing on the ground, shows up as purple bar on the map. Use it to craft a big eye from the lenses. At the beginning of the night, use this in your arena. Make sure you have lots of shurikens, throwing knives, healing potions, and bow/fire arrows (torches +wood arrows)...and fight that thing!

p.s. I used to live an hour and 10 minutes from you, in Ann Arbor. Now I live 16 hours of flying and waiting in airports from you. Weird, huh?

Fastmav347 wrote:

I play both pretty much the same way. I give myself minor goals like building a snowman or making rooms to attract people. Maybe make a garden or a monster trap. Do some boss killing. Make a mountain and write your name in it using lava. Make a sky fortress that you can jump off directly into a hellavator. Do some art projects. Whatever just give yourself something to do.

You can also just play for progressing through the bosses and biomes, the sets of armor, weapons, and tools each biome/boss allows you (and NPCs that get triggered to come live in your house).

Spoiler:

You can keep pretty busy by first killing the big eye described in my last post. Once you have the dryad NPC living in your house, buy the purification powder from her, which when sprinkled on corruption blocks lets you dig them-they become regular stone-and dig your way down to those grey spheres at the bottom of the corruption tunnels. Smash 3 of them with a hammer (get the cool stuff inside) and the second big boss will emerge...and you'll probably die. You can look up strategies for him on the wiki, or figure one out yourself. After you kill him a couple times, and make all the gear you can...a meteorite should land somewhere. Go find that and CAREFULLY dig it up (it will set you on fire if you touch it). Make stuff from that. Then go dig down in the jungle. And be sure to have something that shoots...and then....there's like a huge amount more of bosses/biomes/stuff to do...

p.s. I used to live an hour and 10 minutes from you, in Ann Arbor. Now I live 16 hours of flying and waiting in airports from you. Weird, huh?

Funny you should say that, I was born in Latvia and my family is from souther siberia.

New terraria patch! I wasn't expecting this at all, it's huge!

As many of you know, we have currently been working this last month on Terraria 1.2.3! It has been a great experience working with two other programmers and I am very excited about how this update has turned out!
