WoW: Battleground Info

First concrete stuff I have seen

It's really to long to post here, but here's a taste:

Just when the pitched battle seemed to be stalemated, Alliance griffons appeared over the battlefield and began to lay waste to Horde players below, bringing another set of challenges to the battlefront. To match firepower with even greater firepower, thanks to the efforts of questing Horde players, a fearsome shaman could be heard in the distance calling forth a mighty elemental to begin a rampage of the Stormpike camp. As the battle reached its climactic conclusion, we steeled ourselves for the inevitable destruction that would come as griffon fury was overrun by elemental rage.

A must read.

Wow. I had no idea that WoW was going to have the equivalent of a first person shooter component installed. I hope they can come through with it, it sound cool.

Sounds kinda like BF1942 meets WoW...awesome.

The stuff they''ve mentioned sounds incredible. I think it''s great that there''s something for everyone to do in the Battlegrounds to help their side. In such an environment it''s okay if lvl X usually beats lvl <X in a fight. In DAOC it was always small clusters skirmishing with other small clusters until someone yelled ATTACK and everyone ran in and most people died. Then there was a long lull while both sides regrouped and the dance could begin again. This sounds like there''s more opportunity for continuous conflicts of one sort or another. Can''t wait.

Sounds pretty cool! I have to wonder though how are these things going to be arranged? With all the side-quests, graveyard capturing, actual fighting, etc... how is all of this going to be coordinated? With the quest givers?

This sounds like it really could be very, very good! I do wonder how everything is going to balance out but It looks like this could be a lot of fun if done right.

This does look nice.
I was telling a friend that I talked into buying the game(who was worried about running out of stuff to do(at lvl 20)), that he really didn''t have much to worry about and besides even if you had scene everything and done everything hopefully the battlegrounds will be like playing an fps(in terms of just being able to log on and play and have a good time no matter how many times you had played the same map). It looks like they are going the right way.

The thing I like about this is the fact that it''s PvP with a purpose. No thirteen year old deciding all he''s going to do today is grief you. Killing someone is merely a means to an end.

I''m typically a huge advesary of PvP in persistent games, but Battlegrounds actually sound interesting to me.

What is most interesting to me is that this seems to offer an awesome PvP experience even though we chose a PvE server for our day-to-day playing. If it comes through good job to Blizzard.

This sounds really cool. And this is from a guy who has been in a MMORPG for almost 5 year''s and never tried the PvP aspect.
It''s funny, I love fps and such, but in my fantasy MMORPG I never could get into the mood for it. Probably to try the ''forbidden fruit''. But it was more a, I don''t know, more a killing for killing sake and nothing else. Where ''Battleground'' seem''s to advance the story, get cool gear and not cause some particular person to feel vendetta bound (if that makes sense) over loosing treasured gear etc.

Actually pretty much what Wounder said more succintly

That was one of the things I loved most about AC2 back when it launched. There was a little strech of land that basically represented the beginning, middle, and end of the PVP universe on non-PVP servers. You could spend the day leveling in relative peace and then CHOOSE to go PvP or not. Sometimes I would just read the blow by blow action over the chat channels. Other times I would go and get my behind handed to me.

The fun was in the choice. Giant, focused PvP battle or level 30? Good choice to have to make!

This looks soooo cool! I hate PvP in most games, since it''s just a means of griefing, but I love FPS games, and this is clearly an FPS game model. I really want to try this!

I hadn''t given the whole PvP aspect in WOW much of a thought. But this looks like it''s going to be really sweet. I''d add ''if they can pull it off''. But this is Blizzard, so I expect they''ll do what they say they''re going to do.

I liked the mention that there is going to be fun for all levels, too. Since I''m a slow leveler, it''ll likely take me a long time before I''ll be effective in PvP combat. It''ll be nice to participate, at least at the support level.

Speaking of insane stuff, did you guys see the contest they are having where you submit a SS of your character doing an outrageous stunt?

Here is there example:

All I have to say is the balls on that gnome must be huge.

You know, in ""other"" MMORPGs what you said may be true, but in WoW death is SO cheap and so consequence free that for anybody to feel a vendetta against you is borderline idiotic. At best your death whill cost you few silver in repair costs when you rez at the graveyard. You lose no gear, you suffer now loss of xp or lifecounters, you lose no pets. Nothing except few minutes of your time. And if losing a few minutes of your life bothers you, then why on earth are you playing a MMORPG?

I pretty much play exclusively on a PvP server these days. My main is now high enough that all of my hunting happens in ""contested areas."" This means that I''m fair game for anybody of the opposing faction who wants to attack me. And from time to time they do. But let me tell you, of 10 deaths that I''ve suffered by now (yes, I keep a record ), 2 were ""ganks"" and what people would consider ""griefing."" And I bet you that at least 5 of my victims thought I may have ""griefed"" them. But I am not a 15 y/o punk who had a mission in life to make someone''s life miserable. People who joined a PvP server should PvP in all its forms. They should be ready to PvP in all its forms. I''ll tell you right now, there are perhaps times I wish I was on a normal server so that I can keep leveling and not be chased way from my hunting spot by a group of 5 40+ people. But I absolutely guarantee you that the rush I get from some rogue trying to backstab me in the middle of nowhere and us having a mighty battle afterwards makes up for that feeling 10 times over and then some.

As far as battlegrounds are concerned... I doubt that they will ""advance the story"" as much as people expect it. Whenever I think about ""advancing the story"" I think back to AC2 and what a joke the advancing story is. Bah! I feel like ranting now so I''ll stop...
