WoW: New Patch Sneak Peak - 12/16/04

Awesome hubbinsd, thanks!

You Rock, thanks!

You do rock. Saved my gaming tonight!

God, I wish I would have checked this thread last night. 4 hours, 36 minutes, 22 seconds...that was how long it took to download that damn patch via the Blizzard updater. It brings new meaning to ""snails pace.""

Of all people Guru, I''d expect your shots to come out looking better than that! ;)

sorry about that..after last nights patch there was a message that hardware changed reset to defaults..which I did.

So once I got in game I turned up all my sliders but I didnt restart the game before I took those screenshots..

thus the crappy texture quality.

Blizzard must have done something to their code because I got that hardware change message on all my machines I patched last night.

As did I.

Me too, but I said ""No"" because I know my hardware has not changed. Worked fine.

BTW, my patch download was miserable until I forwarded as many of the ports listed to that machine as I could tolerate. Unfortunately you can''t forward entire ranges of ports on Apple''s Airport wireless router. I maybe set up 20 or so and then tried again. Patch was superfast after that.

(Oh, I play the game on a PC, but it''s connected to the net via the Apple Airport.)

Yeah, I just say ""no"" too.

I said no to the ""hardware has changed"" dialog. Some people who didn''t were evidently running into game crashes and whatnot.
Fun stuff!

I get that dialog EVERY TIME I start the game. I believe it''s because I''m playing on a Centrino laptop and the cpu clock speed changes to it always recognizes that something changed. I always say No.

I too wished I had checked here before patching(!) Took me 4 hrs., 6 mins and 22 seconds! This is rediculous (and thanks Marlin for your help. Much appreciated.). This makes no sense to me that they would use ''advance'' tech for DL and yet WoW is suppose to be newbie friendly. How will they deal with Bit To..(sp?) peer-to-peer, specific portal etc. etc. bull. It first starting hassling me about my NIC drivers, then Firewall, then tracking, then, then, then. Geeze. (but I am a bit clueless except for the bottom line =4hrs + to download. NOT good.

The new x-mas stuff in the game can get quite annoying. The prominance of it is what really gets me. I could understand if they come up with some festivities content, but x-mas stuff is really over the top. Maybe if only humans had it, I could ignore it. Even though implying that all humans are Christians is a bit of a stretch, but to say that all Dwarves and Elves and Orcs are Christians as well... *sigh*

Don''t get me wrong... I''m not ""offended"" or anything, but it really breaks my immersion factor. My suspension of disbelief just can''t seem to swallow a Gnomish Santa and an Orc x-mas tree. Even better yet, there is indications in the game that the undead along with many humans are supposed to be believing in a new God: The Lich King (this comes from some of the in-game books I read).

I refer you to one of my favorite quotes:

Anytime reality gets in the way of fun, fun wins. - Warren Spector

Not to say having an immersive experience isn''t fun but in this case it''s only for a week or so and it''s pretty neat

I''ll have to re-read the book I got as part of a quest, but I think they explain it away pretty well... it''s a feast having to do with the history of the world, not ""then baby Jesus was born, and lo, Thrall came bearing Frankincense and saying ''Lok''tar Ogar!''""

If you think about it, they did pick some of the least ''Christian'' things to put in game - trees, snowballs, egg nog, and santa... I didn''t see an angel at the top of a tree, or anything like that.

Actually, all Dwarf trees have a (falling) start at the top of them.

I would think you would be more concerned by the obvious slander against partridge farms and their delectible items.
But maybe thats just me.

There''s nothing ""Christian"" in the content I saw in the game. It''s just the trees, ornaments, lights, and Greatfather Winter (who does suspiciously look like Santa). There''s no mention of religion and there''s even a quest that explains the history of it ""in the game world"" and that it''s just a big feast/celebration that the Dwarves do and all the other races in the game kind of just picked up on it and celebrate it also.

To add to what Warlock said, the vast majority of real-world ""christ""mas is coopted from the earlier religions/myths, including and especially, the timing. I don''t want to go off on a DaVinci Code tangent, but very little of any of the christian holidays is actually christian in origin.

This is not a slam against christians, christmas, or christ, so no need to go down that road. Just stating that most of what we do to celebrate christmas is actually a celebration of the winter solstice.

nod I agree...not sure when Christmas lights and ornaments with gift wrapped boxes became ""Christian""

More like the commercialisation of Xmas than anything religious.

It was all that Constantine''s doing! I''ve long railed against the vile evil of the Feast of Ishtar. Godess of Fertility... hmph!

Whish we learn from WoW is the fault of the Goblins...damn goblins.

Can anyone else get in? It was refusing to let me release my spirit, so I tried to log out, then eventually had to ALT-ESC out of there when the game wouldn''t respond. Haven''t been able to get in since; it locks on the ''Handshaking'' dialog then says I can''t connect.

I can''t login either. I guess the login servers are down.

-edit-
I have a feeling we should expect a pretty big jump in server populations over the next few days and I wouldn''t be surprised in some down time due to people getting the game for Christmas and things getting overloaded again.
-edit-

Dear WoW,

Please do not allow any more people to join blackhad except those we tell you to.

Thank you,

GWJ Members

It happened on Shattered Hand as well.

Yeah.

""All realms have been taken down to address login issues players were experiencing. Realms will begin to come back up in groups of 32 shortly. Thank you for your patience during this time.""

Irony? We can''t login because... we can''t login.

Windfury 3 bug was removed for Orc Shamans... Where as it was supposed to only give 2 extra hits at +667 Power it was actually getting 7 hits with each extra hit getting the 20% chance to get another 7 hits.

Thus why most Orc Shamans flew through 50 to 60 levels..since with one proc and a large DPS 2H Axe or Mace they were doing 1500-3000 damage.

Damn...I was hoping they''d avoid nerfing this for a few more weeks

I wonder if the Orc Rogue bug was also fixed??

Curse you WOW! I am snowed in and I cannot play! Curse you!

Is it still down for everyone else too? I can''t even get past ""Authenticating..."" to see the servers they''ve brought up?
