Euro Truck Simulator 2 catch-all

I've been to that exact spot on the south approach to the bridge, on a hazy day just like that. Had to look at the truck and the shadows to make sure I wasn't seeing a photograph. Man, this game is a beauty.

It'll be interesting to see how much less maneuverable the big american trucks are with the noses sticking out like that.

I don't care, I'm in.

Its Fleet Week!

Anyways, put a picture of San Francisco in the game, and I'm sold.

That doesn't even happen in fleet week!

I grew up 8 blocks from those screenshots.

No one else is upset at how poorly he backed into that spot?

It's beta, he probably backed in perfectly

Yeah, this is probably a day one purchase...

So, I tried the demo on Steam and.....I'm hooked.

Started off in sunny Manchester (nice skyline, with some pretty accurate depictions of local landmarks) and done trips to Sheffield and Carlisle, with only one minor scrape, which is surprising given my lack of driving ability in games.

Few nitpicks..

1. I've started from Manchester twice, and neither time was it raining - that's statistically impossible.
2. I crossed the Pennines on the M62, and there was no accident or holdups - ditto.
3. I've seen roadworks on the M6 in real life - but these had people actually working on them ?? See above.

Suppose I better buy it.

The simulation is a little abstracted. What I've noticed on winding B roads across the game is that other trucks will just drive 20-30 mph below the speed limit instead of modeling accidents.

And the worst part - no caravans.

Did someone say caravan Convoy?

That's when I practice my passing in the oncoming lane

FWIW, a major overhaul of the traffic ai is in the works according to the SCS blog. I'd love to see more options for wrecks and congestion added.

I hope to see an overhaul of congestion at red lights. I once sat still for about four in-game hours while someone refused to make an unprotected left turn.

That looks so good. Any idea of a release date?

It's not very sporting, but a workaround for this is to save and reload the game. Traffic resets when you load.

That's what I finally did. The only other way out of it would have been road rage and a lot of citations.

Just started playing after a few weeks away from the game. Still awesome, espeically with the new DLC! Got in a few very long runs.

This reminds me of something similar that happened recently. while I was driving on a narrow farm road I noticed in on coming traffic a car was trying to pass a truck. I realised the car wasnt going to make it so I stopped my truck and the car stopped right in front of my truck. I thought the car would turn back into its lane but it just stood there. When I realised that it wasnt going to move I had a long line of cars behind me and I couldnt pass the car. I didn't know about the save reload trick so I had to plow through the car getting a fine and also damaging my truck. It also almost made me miss my delivery time.

I run into this on the mountain passes all the time. Car tries to pass someone up-hill, realizes suddenly they don't have a clear lane, mexican standoff ensues with both lanes of traffic stoically refusing to budge while the two cars stare each other down. Generally I'm three or four cars back and then get to slowly try to thread my way through the mess.

Yeah, that happens surprisingly often. I think I finally drove over this guy.

Fools. Never bring a car to a truck fight.

Gnaaa. It still looks great, but the more I see that screen of the Golden Gate Bridge, the more I see just how wrong their world model is. Alcatraz is in the completely wrong place, at least that better be Alcatraz because if it's Angel Island then it's REALLY in the wrong place. There are no buildings for San Francisco which I'm fine chalking up to "it's not done yet" but if you're going to release promo screens that feature the most famous landmark of the city then you might want to show the city too.

And then there are the biplanes...

Maybe there's an air show on?

MrDeVil909 wrote:

I've lived in the bay area for 32 years, and I've never once seen a biplane flying over the bay. The only air show where planes are actually allowed to fly that low to the bridges is Fleet Week, and then the only planes that fly are the Blue Angels. Not that I'd expect the devs to go into that much detail on their research for every city/county/state/country they make a sim game for, but it still stands out to me as I've lived here my whole life.

Yeah, i was being tongue in cheek. I'm sure it's something that would stand out to a local, like the domesticated buffalo in Far Cry 2 does to me.

OMG you guise. OMG. Get this, a friend was looking for inexpensive TrackIR alternatives so he could have a better time in War Thunder and stumbled onto this:

A $10 used PS3Eye camera, drivers and some free software and BOOM, head tracking. Out of the box. Works like a champ too, though I need to tweak it because it moves if I move my eyebrows for chrissakes, but wow it's still amazing.

OMG DUDE !
I POSTED BOUT THIS A MILLION YEARS AGO!
i mean, i posted about this a while back. Made a vid'o n' evathin.

Here's the same software using a Delan Clip IR head device.

I didn't like it without the device, too often it would lose your face and lose tracking. Still did a pretty OK job.

here's my take on just using the FTN

I'm still holding out for the retail version of the Rift for this...I should really invest in a steering wheel/pedals/shifter setup before face tracking stuff.

Sorry groan, didn't mean to step on your toes there, was just excited about finding so cheap and effective solution with no silly thing that goes on your head.

Honestly? The head tracking is really important with the wheel. Having to take your hands off the wheel to reach for the mouse to look around really breaks immersion.

Yeah, I can definitely see that being the case.
