Something a little different: Some of my favorite covers that I've run across

Chrono Trigger: Schala's Theme

Artist: Laura Shigihara of Plants vs Zombies fame

I really like this group's covers. I found their album, Branch, to also be a fun listen and worth picking up.

That group really is pretty good. The cover of Ico's You Were There was very successful, although there's something strange to me in seeing a Japanese woman singing what sounds like an Irish ballad - and had there not been any video, I would have assumed her to be Irish!

....and Smooth McGroove is crazy talented!

Hadn't realized Device 6 was a video game until I was looking for music to share:

Album (with more tracks to listen to) on Bandcamp.

For those who are interested: Game Music Bundle 6 5 albums for $1, or 24 albums for $10.
~
Otherwise, I find this track from Rogue Legacy to be most excellent:

Wow thanks for the heads up. Some of those look pretty interesting

Dude. Kentucky Route Zero's soundtrack. SO GOOD.

Can anyone recommend me a good game that has similar music to that of Machinarium and FTL?

Botanicula has similar music and is a great, simple point and click adventure game, I highly, highly recommend it and if more people had it on their wishlist, I'd be gifting it left and right. Here's my favorite track:

Yes Botanicula is awesome. It was developed by the same team that did Machinarium. I've finished all their games really good.

They're the best! I have these:

I believe the Samarost 2 soundtrack is somewhat similar, but I'm not in a position to double-check at the moment. EDIT: Yup, Tomas Dvorak, same guy as Machinarium

It's good! It's Tomas Dvorak. Really, though, if you want more good music like Machinarium, just get his stuff as Floex. Botanicula is different and by a group called DVA.

I picked up the bundle almost exclusively because of this track. Thank you for that. There's some great songs on Rogue Legacy.

I apologise if these have already been posted.

I've tried two different ways of formatting this, I really don't understand why it's not working.

Keep posting. Most of the fancy tags don't work till you hit a certain level.

Top Score is rating their top 5 game soundtracks of the year. Number 5 is Ni No Kuni and number 4 is The Last of Us. I'm not sure what they're going to rank above those.

Since we have this nice little thread here, how about ranking your top 5 game soundtracks of 2013? The only rule is that the game had to be released in 2013.

1. Rain - I love Debussy's Clair de Lune, so a game soundtrack centering around that piece is wonderful. They did an extra arrangement with vocals that actually worked really well. The original compositions are great and fit in with the general mood and style. The piano performance of Clair de Lune by the composer is quite good, although I like to play it a little differently. Pretty sure it's the composer who plays it because of a video that was posted on YouTube about the music of Rain.
2. The Last of Us - I love Gustavo Santaolalla's work. It's now iconic and this is a really good example of his spacious style.
3. FEZ - The music combined with that art style just sucks you into that world. It's a truly amazing combination.
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - While it's mostly MIDI stuff rather than live orchestral recordings like Skyward Sword, the arrangements are perfect. The Milk Bar arrangements are all delightful.
5. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - I mostly love the sea shanties, but there are some pretty interesting original orchestral compositions in it as well.

Honorable mentions: Hotline Miami & Kentucky Route Zero. Hotline Miami doesn't make the list for me because the best pieces are licensed from albums by Sun Araw. Kentucky Route Zero isn't finished, so I'm saving that for next year.

I don't think I've heard enough memorable game soundtracks this year to list my top 5 for 2013...

But I will point out the soundtrack to Samurai Gunn!

RZA-esque, Feudal-Japan-inspired beats to go along with an amazingly fun and simple game.

Also, technically FEZ was first released in 2012, but I won't hold that against you. It was exclusively on the 360, and we all know 360 games don't count

What's this 360 you speak of?

Some of my favorite soundtracks of the year:

Super Mario 3D World - The soundtrack is one area where you can tell this game was made by the Mario Galaxy team, right down to including several Mario Galaxy tracks. That's not a complaint, Galaxy's soundtrack was brilliant, and so is this one.

Final Fantasy XIV - The gorgeous soundtrack makes it really easy to play this game for hours on end. I spend a lot of time in Thanalan, so my favorite tracks are the Gerudo Valley-esque Thanalan Daytime track and Ul'Dah's nighttime track.

Bioshock Infinite - The 1910 versions of classic songs was such a creative touch and such good, thematic choices. Will the Circle Be Unbroken is also damn good.

Ni no Kuni - It really is a great and beautiful score, that's all there is to it.

Mass Effect - I played this for the first time in 2013 so it counts right?

I envy you, taking those first steps on that amazing journey. Wait til you play the sequels, the score to the second and third installments are just as good, if not better (it's a close call, if be hard pressed to rank them).

This! So much this. I wish I could relive those for the first time again.

I just love the space map music in Mass Effect (Uncharted Worlds). That'll always be my favorite piece. So simple yet you can listen to it for hours.

I have been very impressed with the quality of the FFXIV soundtrack; very few pieces that I don't enjoy, and given how often the music plays, that's a pretty solid testament to their quality!

There's a reason it wasn't changed throughout the 3 games.

If I recall correctly from an episode of Top Score, it was mentioned that the piece was originally a temporary placeholder piece that ended up getting used. It's been awhile, though, so I could be wrong. Listen to the episode here if ya'll are curious.

I've also really enjoyed the soundtrack to Mario 3D World. They've also done some pretty clever things with integrating the music into the gameplay, like altering the music slightly as you head up to the flagpole so that when you hit it there's an appropriate little fanfare or note.

Ni No Kuni also has very pretty music to listen to on its own, and it seems to have been well-integrated into the cutscenes, but it's a little early for me to tell how I like it overall.

Beatbuddy's Soundtrack is now available on Bandcamp.
I absolutely adore Stingin' Swing by Austin Wintory (start at 18.16):

A little classic Nintendo/Christmas music mash up for your listening pleasure.
