Half-Life: Before - Single-Player Half-Life Mod

I think the comments section pretty much sums it up. Greenlight is becoming the garbage bin of the internet. There are 91 comments so far on the news post and 4 of them take the words right out of my mouth. "still no Drox Operative?". You let a fricken AIR HOCKEY game onto Steam and Drox still can't get a slot?

Orc Attack: Flatulent Rebellion

That's all, folks. All of the games have been made. We're done here.

New batch of 39 games announced today, with one of them being problematic to say the least: CLANG, which likely may never get finished. So Greenlight is sort of improving (more games per batch and batches happening more frequently), but Valve is still not handling it as well as it should.

Yeah, that's a good example of them not doing the due diligence they claim they're doing when deciding what gets approved.

Keep in mind that this just means Valve is going to contact Subudai Corp. about a distribution contract. It doesn't mean they're going to actually sell the game, but they could if Subudai wants to eventually sell Clang! in some form.

Hasn't Gunman Clive been around for a while?

Flash games, check. Evony cow clickers, check. No Drox Operative, check. Just what Steam needs, CALL CENTRE simulators!

I'm sure there is a gem in there somewhere but I honestly don't care enough to find it at this point.

OOTP14 made it!!!!

We've gotta get Drox Operative in. This is stupid.

I think Ichi was a phone game. Seems like one of those free apps of the day I got from Amazon and actually played.

Couple others sound familiar.

Interesting there's a dating sim. No birds though? :p

Steam bloatware in 5, 4, 3, 2, .... liftoff.

garion333 wrote:

Agreed. Terrible that this cannot get on Steam. Maybe if Steven put a popup at the start of the game like OotP did to remind people to vote and tell their friends, maybe that would work.

(No, please don't do this)

Edit: also happy to see Gridiron Solitaire make it.

One Finger Death Punch is going to steam? That is pure awesome! I've played that to completion on the first difficulty level and went straight to the second difficulty level and I'm still enjoying it! The thing is so simple, you fight with only the left and right mouse buttons and attack only when the guys are in range as they come from the left and right side of the screen. Looks almost kinda like NES Kung Fu how the guys come, but plays like a rhythm game with only those two mouse buttons. If you attack when they're not in range, you'll miss and likely take a hit if anyone is close enough; and there are weapons, power ups, and other enemy types that will mix things up though the carnage. If any of this sounds interesting, it is an xbox indie title, and I'm going to take a guess that it is cheaper on xbox and you should at least try it once.

Sorry for the big paragraph there, but I've really enjoyed One Finger Death Punch way too much for some strange reason. It took me completely by surprise and had to share the joy of it (again).

As for the rest, I recognize a few games off the list here, since they were part of previous indie bundles at groupees or indie royale, or cell phone games. Ones that I see that are from previous bundles of some sort:

3089 - Randomly generated Sci RPG world that looks like minecraft
99 Levels To Hell - permadeath randomly generated rougelike sidescroller (royale bundle)
Beware Planet Earth! - Tower defense (royale bundle)
Driftmoon - an RPG of some sort, I seem to recall this getting some coverage at amazon?
EvilQuest - fantasy rpg that plays a little like the old Crystalis on the NES, but you're evil and the graphics is of the xbox indie pallet/animation style sort of thing (royale bundle)
Frogatto & Friends - 2d platformer (royale bundle I believe)
Ichi - one button timing puzzle game that I know exists on the android (gala & royale bundle)
Major Mayhem - sidescroller, I believe also on phones (I believe royale bundle, but may have been gala)
Pitiri 1977 - I know this was from a bundle, but don't know anything about it (royale bundle)
Rooks Keep - part of a previous indie royale bundle, haven't played it (royale bundle)
Muffin Knight - I remember seeing this 2d platformer on the Android store, but don't know anything about it

Bill Harris's GridIron Solitaire made it!!! That is a Day One purchase for me.

DAY...friggin'...ONE!

Still no Drox Operative, a finished game from a publisher/developer which already has three games on Steam. :headbangingagainstthewall: :brokenrecord:

Today we’ve Greenlit another batch of 50 titles to advance through Steam Greenlight, and be offered worldwide distribution via Steam.

These titles were selected on the same criteria we have been using in the past: Votes in Greenlight give us a hugely valuable point of data in gauging community interest along with external factors such as press reviews, crowd-funding successes, performance on other similar platforms, and awards and contests to help form a more complete picture of community interest in each title.

So... what about the part where the game is or is not actually DONE yet?

Just to depress everyone a bit more let me copy and paste the text that accompanies each game name. This is the first thing people must have read when they decided to vote for these games on Greenlight. If I actually cared about Greenlight at this point I would expect to see a short and concise explanation of what your game is about. And if that didn't catch me I would be highly unlikely to read about your game further, let alone cast a vote. Now some of the *cough* developers handled this pretty well, others didn't.

You can live inside your computer; Immerse yourself like never before possible.

This is incidentally what you'll see if you go to the Drox Operative page on Greenlight:

Drox Operative is a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer for Windows and Mac.

The hell? That game is way better than most of these, and it's actually finished.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Malor wrote:

When you consider this is the same community that Greenlit Dragon's Lair, and then voted to give it a community choice discount in a Steam sale.... it makes so much sense.

I don't think the problem with Drox Operative is that it's a bad game. I think their problem is they don't have anyone championing it. The main reason a lot of these crowd-funded games get in is because the standard operating procedure is to launch your Kickstarter/IndieGoGo campaign, then put up a Greenlight page and direct traffic between both pages. Drox came out before the crowd-funding rush so they never really had a chance to get the word out to a massive number of people.

At this point I think it's going to take something like a press outlet (ie. Giant Bomb, PC Gamer, etc.) or a popular YouTuber to direct people to the Greenlight page for Drox.

And that's ultimately a lot of the problem with the system. It's less merit and more about publicity. Although I have a hard time believing that a strictly merit based system would even give a game written in Twine (ie. Depression Quest) a first look. Honestly I can't think of a good way for Valve to crowd-source games to investigate for their store. They've done a private selection process, they've tried crowd-sourcing. I'm not totally sure what other options they have.

Giant Bomb did a Quick a Look and Jeff mentioned it on the Bomb Cast a few times. He really liked it. That was exactly 1 year ago.

I kinda wonder if the Drox guys pissed off someone at Valve.

Well, I finally went and gave Drox Operative a greenlight yes vote so you guys might stop complaining.

shoptroll wrote:

Have. Standards.

I would not be surprised in the least if there are organized companies out there who bot up support for games in return for payment. Or groups of people who specifically upvote terrible games for the lulz. The barest veneer of human moderation would apply enough of a sanity check to keep these things out. But since we clearly don't have an intelligent being sorting these games by any semblance of merit. Greenlight just becomes a bucket full of sh*t that gets kicked over whenever it becomes too full. I don't have any other way to describe it, it's just such a farce.

New batch of 50 games

Tamren complaining about Drox Operative in 3... 2... 1...

No Photos, Please! looks pretty cool. Very much in the style of Spy Party.

Unsurprisingly, Rain World was also in there.

Aces Wild - I might have to give this a look at.
Inverto - From what I played so far, it is an interesting first person puzzler, but it is a bit rough.
MorphVOX - I'd get this as a joke for myself with a steam sale
Zoom Player - If they make something for big picture mode, this could be very interesting.

Some of you will be happy to know Drox Operative finally got greenlit.
