Horrible news stories Catch All

Sorry, man.

Did a little research and it seems that what happened is not quite as described in that article.

Here's a FoxNew page with AP's story:

AP story printed in a Florida paper:

Orlando Sentinel article about the lawsuit settlement:
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/...

She was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center where doctors informed her that she would die if her limbs were not amputated immediately.

"I wanted to die," she said. "I really wanted to die. I couldn't go on living without arms and legs."

It was Edwards, 34, who spent an hour, racing against the clock, convincing her that she still had much to live for.

Yeah, I was about to post the same. Maybe she can afford fancy robot arms, now.

And legs.

An effective, if extreme, rejoinder to the accusatory questions, "Why are you having a home birth? Isn't it unsafe?" etc.

The headline is a bit misleading though: she woke up with no arms and legs after passing out from the necrotizing fasciitis that was killing her for a couple days after she successfully gave birth.

Another victory for the War on Drugs. Oh well, at least it's not a police state.

Our government, now doing literally what they've been doing figuratively.

Children vandalize man's garden, man takes photos of vandals for proof, people think man a pedophile and burn him to death...

God, I hope that guy gets his hands on some knifey-gloves.

Poor man just wanted to tend his garden...

"Operate on this mother so we can take her baby."

I have a lengthy P&C-style rant about this, but I have no idea where to put it.

Britain's slide into totalitarianism continues.

John Hurt, where are you?

He's busy saving Gallifrey. I think it's somewhere in Ireland.

I was woken up by the helicopters this morning. The derail happened about a ten minute walk from our apartment.

I meant V for Vendetta John Hurt.

Ugh, that was so horrid. There's a lesson to be had, folks: If you encounter a place called "Spewing Devil," don't put train tracks right next to it.

I know.

You MUST use a car to pick up your children from school, and wait in a mile of highway traffic. If you try to walk into the school to pick them up, you'll go to jail.

Thank you for posting that story. I cannot believe how crazy a rule the school is trying to impose!

This is up there with some of the worst stuff I've heard. This bastard needs to be tossed into gen pop.

The victim's sister, Nekesa Shepherd, said she witnessed the killing and had no doubt it was about football

That would be fitting.

BTW, 'bama fans are insane. This woman shot and killed a mother of three because said mother wasn't sad enough that their college football team lost.

(Tentative posted first, but in the wrong thread.)

Female Fort Hood soldiers recruited for prostitution ring [...] set up by co-ordinator of base's sex assault and harassment prevention program

Conway asked Col Gregory Gross, the military judge presiding over the trial, to throw out the case against Grimes. He argued that the Army high command and top federal officials, including President Obama, had biased the process by pressing for prosecutions over military sexual assault allegations. Gross declined to dismiss the case.

My friend's brother somehow got dropped off in the wrong neighborhood while drunk. A bunch of Hasidim beat the crap out of him, and he may never regain sight in one of his eyes.

What hurts me the most is that one of our state assemblymen, who represents another Hasidic neighborhood, basically denies what this guy went through, claiming it's "out of character." Does he personally know the 1-2 dozen Hasidic men who did this heinous act? I guess that religious ties are stronger than eyewitnesses, including a city bus driver. I do very much hope said city bus had video cameras.

Day care worker robs toddler of her gold/diamond earrings.

(The article doesn't say they were diamond earrings, but I heard that part on a newscast.)

Texas teen Ethan Couch gets 10 years' probation for driving drunk, killing 4

To the defense, the youth is himself a victim -- of "affuenza," according to one psychologist -- the product of wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for the boy.

To a judge, who sentenced Couch to 10 years' probation but no jail time, he's a defendant in need of treatment.

According to CNN affiliate WFAA, a psychologist called by the defense described Couch as a product of "affluenza."

He reportedly testified that the teen's family felt wealth bought privilege, and that Couch's life could be turned around with one to two years of treatment and no contact with his parents.

If I were the father who lost his wife and kid, and I had no else left, I'd hunt down the little prick and end his miserable existence.
