GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

Hm. Think I noticed that issue with youtube the other day... but can't remember if it was on the iPad or on my phone. Definitely in Chrome, one way or the other.

It works fine on my iPhone in iOS 7, so nothing makes sense to me.

Had that same issue.. I even posted a solution.. Let me get it back. It's an issue with HTML5 and youtube that active a Beta by default.

EDIT :

Well, I didn't find my post, but I found the instruction.

Go here : http://www.youtube.com/html5

Then remove yourself from the beta.

After, go into General of you iDevice, and clear the cache and cookies.

It should fix it.

Not so much a feature request, rather interested in knowing about the new gwj.com that has been mentioned in the latest Conference Call episodes; I wanted to know if Tapatalk integration was being considered.

If not, I'd love to see it considered as a stretch goal for next year's donation drive.

I've got investigating Tapatalk on the list for post-launch investigation. The blocker is that the existing Drupal module (https://drupal.org/project/tapatalk) isn't supported, isn't available for Drupal 7, and needs some major work. It's work I wouldn't mind doing, but it'll take some time to get done.

Is there an alternative to making the forums a bit more mobile/tablet friendly? I know what we have right now is pretty decent, but are there alternatives that might be better? If not, it may not be worth the time.

"Your are not currently in the HTML5 trial."

Mobile-focused UX is a really big part of our site upgrade, so yes

I have three unread favorite topics, but up it says two.

Would be great to be able to make it so you don't even see certain threads, even if you had at one time posted in them (remove from My Recent Threads).

Of course, I'm probably the one to notice this first, as I'm a notorious serial editor for a couple of minutes after posting something, but comment editing doesn't seem to be working quite correctly. It changed in the last day or two.

What used to happen was that you hit edit, changed your text, hit post, and then it would refresh the thread, bringing your focus point to your edited post.

What happens now is that you hit post, and it does change the text in the database, but then you just get a completely blank screen. So you have to re-navigate back to the thread you were in, which is pretty annoying.

testing edit here: yep, it was blank. Trying again with my new antivirus disabled (only change I've made lately): yep, still blank. Definitely a problem.

Test post.

[Edit] Now I'm editing.

[Edit2] Nope, still working as expected for me with Chrome, dev branch.

Oh, yeah, my Firefox did update lately. I'm on FF 25, with a crapload of addons. Let me try with a new profile.

ok, testing edit from a new profile:

Yep, that's working. Something's broken on my end. Sorry!

edit: test from old profile

Well, I will be damned. Now it's working again, and there was a 'stuck' Firefox process that I didn't know about until I restarted again. Weeeeird, man.

Yeah, I dunno. It seems fine now.

Having trouble getting this Amazon link to work: Expressive Processing
Forum bug?

Couldn't figure out or find where to report this, but this spambot necro'd a thread: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/1...

Sure looks like it.

If you add the tag 'spam' to a thread, one of the moderators will check on it.

Would it be possible to add a gamerswithjobs.com/favourites that redirects to gamerswithjobs.com/favorites? I'd really appreciate it, eh.

Colour me unsurprised.

Huh. I just noticed that all the posts are showing up as 1 hour later than they should be. My account's time zone setting is correct... did someone forget to flip the DST switch on the server, or something?

With all the Twitch streaming going on.
Would it be possible to have some alerts on the main page of who is streaming at this moment?

On the off chance that the keyboard shortcut bug can't be fixed, perhaps we could have a preference that allows users to disable the shortcuts altogether? (Perhaps just make it a secret pref by letting the user set something in localSettings via the JS console, so you don't have to do back end work.)

Re: Spam, I always PM Certis. He's never told me not to.

I just noticed the helicopter as the new forum icon. When I put my cursor over it, it said "Donator v11.0" Turns out this works with all icons. Is this a new feature?

Feature Request: let me search for the originating threads of signatures. If I plug in a signature, google can't find the string cause it only sees the many many many places it comes up due to being part of the signature.

See, that's gold and I'd like to know where it came from

New England Journal of Medicine.

I checked in a fix the other day for the YouTube tag handling code that should make it more robust. Still working on Vimeo embedding, which is easy for cases where you have a video ID, like YouTube, but more difficult with custom URLs. Would everyone be OK with having to know the video code to embed from Vimeo? Typically, you can get to it by visiting the URL that shows up on the Share popup after it redirects. After that, it's pretty easy.

I also fixed the sticky Control key bug thanks to Switchbreak.

I think that'd be fine - early versions of the YouTube tag required knowing of the tag (no button), as well as the video id.

It's done that for along time. As long as I've been on the site at least. It's just an alt-text attribute included in the img html tag.

EDIT: Do we have a referral program set up through Monoprice? I just saw that they had one but had trouble logging into my account to view the details for that. It's something like $10 giftcard per new customer, we could potentially hookup all of the hosts with mechanical keyboards.

Everyone once in a while, I'd like to go through a thread and look for a particular post; mostly to make sure who said what.
How hard (and useful) would it be to search/filter specific threads by specific posters?

IE, searching this thread for "Hobbes2099" should result in 5, maybe 6 hits at most. Could the search/filter result be rendered as the thread with only my posts?
