The Playstation Vita Catch-All

Eventually we have to come to terms with the fact that there's something wrong with us for liking the games on the Vita. I think that's the bottom line.

I still want to get one. I bet I could find more to play on it than Mr. Alpha Gamer up there.

But... isn't everything better on Vita?

Joking aside, Sony does appear to still be having problems getting 3rd parties to hop on board the Vita train. Perusing the upcoming game list from Wikipedia I see little announced/confirmed for the next couples years that is very interesting. I love the system, and I'm very interested to see what happens with it now that the PS4 is out, but Sony really needs to do more to convince new development to happen on it.

Dragon's Crown, Soul Sacrifice, and Muramasa (if you didn't play it on Wii) are all fantastic. I've got Platinum trophies for the first two, and might eventually for the third, that's how good they are.

Can vouch for Dragon's Crown's greatness. I think it stands right near the top of what I've played this year.

I could care less about exclusives, personally, but I will gladly pay a little more to play on something with a nice interface. Spelunky, Guacamelee, Rayman, and Ninja Gaiden are on every platform but to me they're more engaging on the Vita.

There aren't a ton of apps but what's there is useful: Netflix, YouTube, and panorama camera are all pretty slick.

God I sound like a fanboy. Meh, so be it.

Note about Spelunky: it's getting the daily challenges that were previously exclusive to the steam version. GET. ON. IT.

The Vita will be the next piece of hardware I buy, I just need to save up my pennies.

My main reason to pick one up is for the remote play. The idea of having the Playstation system 'on' while the kids are watching a movie, but me being able to 'ninja-play' the games I'd rather be playing on the Vita, is the most attractive part of that proposition.

That is why I am truly torn between the prettiness of OLED model's screen, and the newer, slimmer, model, with the 'better' feeling buttons, longer battery life and onboard storage.

The practical improvements make sense, but the fact hat I will be using this as a defacto TV To play games on makes the visuals a very heavily weighted consideration.

Come on so,done, enable us both!?!?

If you're looking for the best match for Remote Play, I suggest the OLED for the following reasons:

- It's prettier, and the image quality of the PS4 game on my Vita is stunning.
- Remote play seems to take less juice than native Vita games, likely because it's not crunching on the Vita to achieve the spectacle.
- If you're streaming games, who needs onboard storage?

I can honestly say that my already unrealistic expectations for Remote Play on the Vita have been surpassed, and I used it a ton this weekend when my son was sick. All he was up to doing was lying on the couch watching PBS Kids shows. I hang out with him when he's like that, but it was 1 million times easier to do with the Vita in hand. I probably wasn't actively playing a game more than 50% of the time I was there, but it was always streaming something, and my OLED Vita was still 3/5 full of juice after 5 hours or so.

Remote Play on the Vita will be the deciding factor for my game purchases for some time to come.

I'm kicking myself for not having the funds available when they were quitting stock for $188 recently. I just need to keep an ear to the ground for when they hit that low again (or even better, who knows).

Looks like you have to be connected to PSN when you're finished. Mine was ~51K for today.

Sorry if this has been previously covered but does the Vita remote play run off the ps4 and your home internet connection or a saved game from Sony's servers?

Looking forward to playing Tearaway on the weekend.

I was just about to post that in this thread! I love the Vita. I love it so much that I never play it. Hmm. Since I've recently bought an iPad Air and an Xbox One, I decided maybe having a piece of unused kit around wasn't the best idea.

It's one of the Madden 13 bundles, and I'm including a 16 GB card and nice hard case (with some nylon weave over it to make it look better). Price is negotiable.

Eh, I'll take my own experiences over that of random threadcrappers.

Since getting my Vita last Christmas, I've put serious time into:

P4G
Hot Shots Golf
Gravity Rush
Soul Sacrifice
Dragon's Crown
Atelier Totori
Spelunky
Hotline Miami

and a bunch of PSP games that I've gotten on sale or free through Plus. I play a lot of games, and I feel like I haven't run dry on anything. I still want to get Guacalelee and Muramasa.

I'm not sure how it was missed, but I was being sarcastic. I was referring to how Blind Evil has to keep reminding us how terrible the Vita is whenever people say they enjoy the Vita.

So was I. =)

I've returned to the MGS HD Collection in anticipation of Ground Zeroes next year. Silly as these games are at times they really are a lot of fun. There's nothing like sneaking around the jungle in MGS 3 and throwing live snakes at guards.

I hadn't seen this before, apologies if it has already been mentioned up-thread. Apparently the new slimmer model non-OLED, Vita (currently Japan only) cannot use the internal 1 Gb memory if a PS Vita memory card is also inserted. Surely this will be rectified in a patch, but as it stands, it sounds pretty dumb.

The fact it only has 1 GB of storage is a nonstarter to me. Its like buying a non-deluxe version of the Wii U.

The 1 GB of on-board memory was meant to address the complaint that you needed to buy a memory card before you could save your cartridge-based games. It wasn't meant for the people who download a bunch of stuff. Personally, I think it's a great addition and makes me more likely to buy one.

It's really an OS level thing. It would probably be difficult to combine that gig with, say a 32 GB card to give you 33 GB. Also, the way the OS is set up now, there's no way to have multiple "drives" loaded at the same time.

Yeah, it does seem dumb on an intuitive level, though.

Pfft. No one buys cartridges.

garion333 wrote:

I own four of them.

I've only "bought" digital releases when they were only available in digital, or ones that come with PS+.

garion333 wrote:

I only buy cartridges unless it's one of the rare games that I want to always have access to no matter what else I'm playing. Really the only exception to this for me is Virtual Console games and the occasional incredible Steam sale that I can't pass up. However, I still own a great deal of my PC games on disc in boxes, too, and they look great on the shelf together.

I always keep my portables in some sort of protective case, even if it's flimsy fabric. Even though I aim to get the least bulky ones possible, they always hold a game or two. Or, in case of my Vita, probably about 16.

But I also tend to have one in each system that becomes my go-to game.

Why must I continue to torture myself?

Over and

over

again...

That does seem a tad disjointed, but then again, my Windows Phone only allows me to save music and pictures to my SD Card, so I am limited to the phone's capacity for actual game downloads.
