Wii U Catch-All

I finally tried Wii Sports Club. I bought access to Tennis after about 15 minutes of online play. It's rad, y'all. If you liked Wii Sports, anyway.

I kinda wish they'd include Table Tennis, though.

Yeah, I like the tennis. We should play some time. When my WiiU gets back from rehab.

That'll be in Wii Play U

Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like my dreams of playing Wii U games in TV off mode in a different part of the house are quashed. Still sounds handy to be able to play on the couch in front of TV when someone else wants to watch the TV for something else.

2. For him to play alone not much. I am looking forward to playing the new Super Mario with my kids since it appears very friendly to them dying and still being able to jump right back in the game with me.

I pretty much only let him play video games (apart from iOS stuff) as co-op with me. It's part bonding time, part fun for me and partly trying to make sure what he is doing is appropriate for his age.

Don't know if this is a reasonable option, but the console does not need to be plugged into the HDMI port to use the Game Pad, so you can move the console and plug it in at the corner of your bedroom or something if you really want to play laying down in bed or something. I do it ever once in a while. It would be near perfect if I just picked up another power brick.

Correction: it looks like the Black Friday deal for Best Buy is the Deluxe Wii U with New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Nintendoland, and either a Mario Wiimote or a Luigi Wiimote.

I think Nintendo UK has that beat.: NSMBU+Luigi U, 3D World and the Mario WiiMote.

Damn, me too. That's crazy good. Hell, they can keep NSMBU and put in anything else.

Dammit. Time to move to England.

£299 is about $480. You could get the Best Buy BF deal (also has Nintendoland) + retail copy of 3D World for about $380, leaving $100 spare to hunt down a Mario cap on eBay.

£299 is the list price for the Deluxe model at launch. Presumably, the same deal here would be priced relative to our Deluxe model.

Will component cables from the Wii work with the Wii U?

This says yes.

Brilliant! I was worried my TV wouldn't have enough HDMI inputs.

But really, doesn't the Wii U deserve to be hooked up via HDMI?

I feel like it needs a little softening to look like an authentic Nintendo experience...

Yes.

Time to get a switch, Clocky.

I can't tell if you're serious. Why would it make a difference? I only need a 720p video signal (and stereo audio) which I should be able to get with component cables.

Because as long as you tell yourself "HDMI produces better quality video" it'll look shinier.

oh snap

oh, i'm serious alright. sooo serious.

Is your TV a 720p set? then you should be fine. Just make sure you switch the Wii U to output 720p and Stereo Audio in the settings.

Personally I have it 1080p and surround. See how serious I am? ;p

Especially if you're using Monster cables.

I was half kidding, really. A HDMI switch isn't the most expensive investment in the world, but if your tv is only doing 720p then I imagine you're just fine. Then again, with all the marketing push saying that the Wii U has more games running at 1080p than the competition, well, maybe get that HDMI switch for when you have a new TV. But if you already have the cables ... why waste the money?

My sister requested Mario Kart at Thanksgiving this year. That's all the excuse I need to pack up the Wii U for travel because I think I'd go into withdrawal this week without it. And with that comes the fated hour of transferring my Wii to the Wii U. Have they finally smoothed out the transfer issues people were having at launch?

Pshaw. Blue Jeans Cables. Sure the site looks like something straight out of '95, but I've had 0 trouble with their HDMI cables.

AmazonBasics.

They are Cheap, work great and backed by Amazon. My current set up containing 7 HDMI cables are all AmazonBasics brand.

No problems yet. Heck, my 3 PC's are also using AmazonBasics cables.

Did I mention Cheap?

That's my thinking. Right now I've got a spare HDMI port, but that's where the PS3's going to go. I'd love to be able to just unhook the Wii and reuse as many of its cables for the Wii U as possible, and it sounds like that's exactly what I'll be able to do.

You can resuse the Sensor bar too.

That's what we did, although I think they ship one in the box too?

Oooh! Oooh! You could hook both of them up and use triangulation (quadrangulation?) to sense it IN 3D. You'd be all like "wooaaah...woop zup bidah..." and we'd be all like "cooool" and then you'd be all like "yeah ain't no thang"

And if you plugged your Wii U into your Xbox One, the Xbox One might have some games!

...

But not many.

Sassy.

Yes. Mine is still in the Wii U box.

I reused my sensor as well. I figure now I have a backup in case anything goes wrong.
