EverQuest Next: Landmark - Catch All

complexity of design tools discussion-

Apparently just a "few hours of work" in Everquest Landmark:

More Here.

Yep and they're about to start streaming from alpha testing here pretty soon.

This is definitely my most anticipated mmo.

We should be able to get our hands on Landmark in a couple months so i'm excited. It's like a free ticket to do all the exploration and building you want while not having to sacrifice your characters development time.

When i started out in SWG i was the guild's primary archictect and then mayor/city builder later on. I missed out on a lot of cool stuff because i was concentrating on crafting and building. It was also why i ended up with multiple accounts later on so i could have one for combat and keep my builder focused on building.

Lol my SWG experience was kinda similar. I started out as a BH, but quickly fell in love with mining and selling energy. Had a dozen contracts and five employees at my peak, and would do work-for-hire home decorating on the side.

Needless to say the CU didn't really affect me much

I am looking forward to EQNext. I like their thinking a lot. It's an innovative combination of existing systems I've liked separately, and look forward to seeing how they can be combined.

And I've always had a special place in my heart for SOE. They are so willing to keep trying I can't help but applaud and give them another shot.

The last producer video let slip they were going to be giving the tools in the next weeks. Sounds to me like 4-6 weeks.

Alpha starts Feb 28th and they're now offering founders packs.

Not much to it, but here is the new trailer:

It may be much more dull in reality, but I get the same vibe/excitement I had with SWG and city building.

I'm almost certainly going to bite on one of those founders packs.

Heaven help me, but that top-tier founder's pack is unreasonably tempting.

Part of me feels horrible for doing it, but I grabbed the top-tier one. I have a ton of ways to rationalize it, though. My 2 girls (9 and 8) love both Minecraft and GW2. I showed them the presentations for EQN and Landmark in August, back when they said we'd be playing some version of Landmark before Christmas. Almost every day now, they keep asking "any news about Landmark?" and "when can we play Landmark!?". I think the fun of us getting into alpha early (I'm putting my faith in their statement that Feb 28 is just the latest, it will actually start earlier), plus multiple closed beta codes so we can all play together, is worth the money. I can easily see this being one that gets a LOT of play time in our house.

They originally said this December

Yes I know, I even said that in my post...

They also said this week that it should start "much earlier" than the Feb 28 date, so that could still mean this December, or hopefully January.

Fine print says that those plans and benefits are available for purchase any time through to the end of Alpha.

I can't help myself--I have been looking for an MMORPG that doesn't get old within 2 months, and I am hoping Next will do it. The housing might help build a sense of community. And with any luck LARGE raids will be possible.

Apparently, according to Massively, you can get a EQ:L closed beta key in the hard copy version of PC gamer.

I bought the Pathfinder to get in. Even though I am as creative as a stump this has me very excited to just tool around in. I think this and Everquest Next are the games (MMO) that intrigue me most for next year.

Yahoo! My wife got me a Trailblazer pack for the holidays. I can't wait to start. I hope it is soon as they have implied several times alpha would be this year.

I got the big founder's pack! Looking forward to it quite a bit. Another MMO/Builder I can sink a few thousand hours of my life into? Excellent...

Remember back when SOE said that EverQuest Next Landmark's alpha would happen on or before February 28th, 2014? According to CEO John Smedley, players will likely be seeing the game a month (or more) sooner than that. Smedley tweeted, "It's looking like our alpha for EQNL is going to start sometime in the last half of January." That's some pretty good news for folks who are excited to get in and test the building tools in the sandbox for themselves.

woot! Was still hoping for a last week of Dec surprise though.

Me too! I remember when they said we would be playing it this fall or holiday season.
